By the way, there’s something genuinely beautiful and deeply moving about this piece by Tamara Bajagić.

Jamie Davis9 said:Man, at this rate, we might actually end up treating Miljenko Jergović like some kind of cultural North Star.

I remember reading somewhere that he claimed Americans are basically just Mexicans with an inferiority complex—basically just caricatures of them.

There’s a massive difference between being a provocateur—you know, a professional troll acting like a high-brow cynic in the vein of Igor Mandić—and being a public figure who people like me actually pay to get screwed over. As if the legal system and life itself aren't doing enough of that already.

When you're writing for a public audience, watch your step—there's a moral obligation there. You aren't some random fassgodard in that situation.

You’re those restless memories that won't let me sleep...
I’ve given it everything I've got to wipe the slate clean...

There is a massive difference between being a provocateur—someone who is a professional troll and an unrepentant cynic channeling his inner Igor Mandić—and being a public figure whom fools like myself pay to get screwed over, especially when the legal system and life itself aren't already doing a perfectly fine job of screwing us.

When you write publicly, you have a moral obligation to watch your mouth, because you aren't just some random guy like Dennis Hall41 in those instances.

Ah, good old Milac. 😁 Who cares about him!
After surviving a global pandemic, major earthquakes, and total isolation—all while narrowly avoiding losing every cent we own to lifelong debt, which was a very real possibility for some of us—it feels completely pointless to waste my energy obsessing over Americans, Mexicans, extremists, Milac, or people eating dogs in China; life is simply too short for all that nonsense. 🙄

I wasn't entirely certain which subforum would be most appropriate for this particular entry, so I have decided to place it here...😁

After everything we’ve been through—surviving a global pandemic, major earthquakes, and endless lockdowns, all while somehow managing not to lose every cent we own to predatory bank loans (which, let's be honest, could have easily happened to some of us)—it feels pretty pointless to waste my energy obsessing over Americans, Mexicans, fascists, Milac, or people eating dogs in China. Life is just way too short for that kind of nonsense. 🙄

And then, on top of all that misery, they shove an election down our throats where the only real choice is whether I want to get screwed over or have my teeth pulled without anesthesia.

Everything will be fine

I'm not saying don't stress, I'm just saying you should take responsibility for what you put out there publicly. Or at least don't whine about your rights being violated or claim the government is hiding some massive conspiracy—you don't live in an absolute monarchy.
In a place like Mexico, for example, you definitely wouldn't be allowed to write that Americans have an inferiority complex or make caricatures like that.

Or, at the very least, stop whining about being suppressed or claiming the government is hiding some grand conspiracy, as if we were living under an absolute monarchy.
In a place like Mexico, for instance, you certainly wouldn't be able to get away with calling Mexicans anything other than what they actually are.

Fine. Tell me then, who actually gives a damn about Mexico, America, or Miljenko Jergović?

I’ve written quite a bit about Miljenko Jergović before in a dedicated thread, but honestly, what role does he play in my life?
He’s just some writer from Sarajevo, an American literary figure with a tacky style, sloppy facts, and a completely banal body of work—essentially a man without convictions or a brain, who probably would have enjoyed pulling in a steady $1,000 a month back when people were actually talking about him a few years ago.
And even then, he wasn't exactly thriving.
Anyway, to try and stay somewhat on topic, a few years ago he wrote something about Black Sabbath—actually focusing on the mothers—claiming that when the band first emerged, they had this certain quality that somehow froze time in Canada, yet he couldn't even bother to spell the band's name correctly.

Oh, I know he’s brilliant—believe me, I do. And honestly? That’s part of the problem too.

I couldn't care less about his intellect, but it drives me nuts when someone pulls in a $60k salary they haven't actually earned. It’s not even just an annoyance—it literally gives me hives seeing these loudmouths with massive egos and zero substance to back them up.
Alright, seriously though, enough—this is actually getting under my skin.😁
