Best external hard drive for backups?

Hey there! I could really use some advice, maybe? I'm looking for a 4TB hard drive over at Best Buy to use for backups, but I'm feeling a little lost in all the options. I've been checking out Western Digital and Toshiba, specifically looking at the Seagate BarraCuda, but man, the internet is such a mess! I guess I keep seeing all these debates where people say the Blue drives are just bad, the Green ones are way too slow, Red isn't reliable enough, and Purple is strictly for video stuff... and then the Black or Gold drives seem just way too pricey for what they are. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all, honestly!😵

Well, I actually had two Barracudas die on me recently, so I think I'll pass on anything Seagate for now, even though I have to admit they were pretty much the gold standard about 15 years ago, I guess.

So, I see you're looking into picking up an internal bare HDD. If you're leaning toward a Toshiba, you really can't go wrong there; they've always been pretty reliable drives in my book.
