I didn't exactly set out to start this thread, but since I have nothing better to do—why not?☕
There’s plenty of chatter about criticizing the moderation team and the penalties handed out when people don't stick to the designated threads meant for those complaints.
What I’m actually curious about is what happens when a moderator themselves starts commenting—or should I say, provoking—users on a thread that isn't intended for that kind of discussion, specifically after those users have already filed formal complaints against their conduct. Is that actually allowed?
Just wandering through the back alleys of this forum, I stumbled upon this:

Following that, there’s just more unpunished insults.

And then, once again, from the moderator:

I really want to know: are we regular users just supposed to turn a blind eye and endure this kind of behavior?

I'd appreciate an answer from Nica.

Just my two cents. Thanks.

First thing I noticed... this is just a chat thread. I didn't even bother reading what they were arguing about because, honestly, same. I let people rip into the moderation on my own threads all the time, or I'll be the one calling out issues in the chats I run. Why wouldn't I?

P.S. Just to be clear, this isn't the rule for every single subforum. I'm just saying that the chat threads on certain parts of this site are way more laid back when it comes to the rules.

So, does this mean I’m actually allowed to call a moderator a "blockhead" in the chat thread—you know, someone whose physical growth hasn't quite caught up to their mental maturity or whatever?
Did you actually bother reading the posts I mentioned earlier?
If I'm permitted, then fine.
That’s all I’m asking. If it's allowed, then cheers; I just figured I should probably get official clearance first.🙂
Because from what I understand, regular users aren't supposed to critique the moderation team anywhere except in this specific section. Not in the chat, not anywhere else besides here.
But if we're operating under the principle of "what's permitted for Jupiter isn't necessarily permitted for an ox," I’d appreciate it if that were made explicitly clear as well.

I can't exactly give you the green light to go posting on other people's subforums, can I? But hey, if you ever decide to drop a comment over on my subforum...
you've got my blessing to jump into the chat thread.

The OffTopic subforum isn't exactly the place to air grievances regarding moderation.

My question is this:
Is OffTopic really the appropriate venue for moderators to chime in like this when users are simply using this space to vent about their oversight?

To be honest, looking through those links you provided, I don't see any actual commentary on the moderation itself. It just seems to be an observation that the community's attitude toward the moderator has shifted since she took over. There isn't any critique of specific moderator actions from other sub-forums or anything like that.🤔

So, you don't see anything wrong with this sentence:

starting to whine on the community board.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting such extreme infantilism from anyone here.
i aggression.

Well, I certainly do. Because this is a community forum, and I happen to be one of those people who actually filed a complaint on the community board after a certain moderator accused me of being a bot when I clearly wasn't.

All I want are answers to my questions, and I'm hoping to get them.

If any regular user had posted something like this regarding the moderation team, they would have been penalized immediately.

Basically, moderators are allowed to comment on complaining on the community board, but a standard user isn't allowed to critique the moderation anywhere except right here?

Well, actually, I do see it. Because this is the community board, and I happen to be one of those people who complained in the community board section because a certain moderator called me a bot, which I obviously am not.

I just want answers to my questions, and I'm hoping to get them.

If any regular user had written what was in those posts regarding the moderators, they would have been banned.

So, basically, moderators are allowed to comment on whining on the community board, but a regular user isn't allowed to comment on moderation anywhere except here?

Hold on a second... is she moderating that specific sub-forum and preventing you from expressing yourself the way you always have? She’s posted on the OffTopic board before, doing the exact same thing she’s doing now, and that didn't seem to bother you. Just because someone becomes a moderator doesn't mean they suddenly get a halo over their head or become a saint. Users are still users; they just focus on keeping order in the specific area they're assigned to. I was simply saying that, in my opinion, those links don't actually constitute commenting on the moderation itself, but you've flagged that as an issue.

I think the opening post lays it out perfectly: this discussion is actually about the reverse scenario—specifically, how moderators respond to user appeals and the manner in which they do so. Everything is laid out quite clearly, and I’d really appreciate some direct clarification. I’m looking for a response to my specific questions from both the moderator overseeing this thread and Nica.

From what I’ve observed, no other user on these forums—whether in a specific thread or in any of the chats—would ever dream of critiquing the moderation without facing immediate sanctions.
My question is simply whether the rules allow for the reverse: is it acceptable for a moderator to engage in whining in the breakroom, acting like someone whose emotional maturity hasn't caught up with their age, being infantile and aggressive, essentially just venting about
standard user complaints?

Look, I’m certainly not claiming to be perfect, but I have already served my punishment. However, I won't sit here and let myself be provoked or insulted with labels like "immature" or "childish" after the fact (and it’s painfully obvious who was filing the complaints against her in the breakroom
). That same moderator accused me of using an alt account while I was under a ban without even bothering to check the facts. She didn't say a word to anyone else about it.
In any other context, being falsely accused of using an alt would be grounds for a heavy penalty.

The first post in this thread is nothing but pure manipulation.
Every single post after that is just more of the same garbage.
Anyway, there's my two cents.

Regarding my former colleague—who apparently considers themselves an artist now—all I can say is that someone clearly lied to you about having "served your time." With 925 active points on your record, you're in a position where trolling is... shall we say, ill-advised. If you run into any suspicious posts, just report them.

Maria Fowler39 said:To be honest, looking at those links you sent—I don't actually see any specific critiques of how she handles things. It just seems like people are acting differently toward her since she took over moderation—nothing about actual moderator actions or how anyone else is being handled in those other files.🤔

When people start describing their relationships with the mods using that whole "I am a moderator" premise—it's pretty obvious they're actually taking shots at the moderation team. Specifically: Ever since I stepped into this moderator role— A lot of people from this chat have basically gone MIA—some started whining non-stop, others are getting personal with the insults, and a few have even lost their cool completely.. Prevedeno: I tend to moderate by letting a good chunk of the chat crowd sink—they usually end up whining about it anyway...

Let's look at it from the opposite angle—moderating comments on a PDF file.

Case A:

Topic: I’ve never been in a serious relationship. The fear of being alone forever.

Post:
Here’s some straight-up practical advice: go after the big money. Look, if you want to actually meet someone, you need to be out there living life—and to live life, you need cash. For most women, having financial stability is a baseline requirement (and no, that doesn't mean they're just after a paycheck). Basically, hitting those high earnings covers your basic survival needs while also making you much more attractive. Even if things don't work out romantically—which would be a real shame—at least you'll still have the bank account.

Post deleted because it was flagged as trolling. The logic? It's trolling just because they say it's trolling—classic.

Case B:

Subject: The Fapstronaut Program – 90 days of staying clean

Postovi: I don't really see what the big deal is—honestly, it feels like people are overthinking this one. Just let it happen.

I kept these posts up—they’re too important to the conversation to delete.

Thanks for listening.

Telling someone they’re acting infantile—basically like a middle schooler—isn't an insult. Here is how Aaron Jones87 reacted when I was appointed as a moderator:

I mentioned in the chat thread that this kind of behavior is—in my view—strictly thirteen-year-old territory.
I suppose someone utilizing that specific vocabulary shouldn't really take offense at being called infantile.

As for the whining and the constant complaining, I simply used a term common to everyone on OffTopic—it's standard lingo here and isn't intended as a personal attack. For instance:

I wasn't referring to any specific complaint or its contents.

Similarly, when I said the group had spiraled, I was talking about comments like these:

Not that my role as a moderator is causing people to whine—since, frankly, I don't moderate OffTopic at all.

Best,

I haven't deleted these posts because they're actually relevant to the discussion.

Thanks for looking.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around why this specific post was flagged and removed on that page.

But this one was left untouched?

Best,

I have to disagree.
If I—or any other user—were to post anywhere on this site calling a moderator infantile or saying they act like a thirteen-year-old, I'd be handed a red card immediately.
You wrote that without any provocation. And when our colleague tisa asked who else besides Joja Jojić was involved in the complaining session, you refused to answer because you didn't want to cause trouble.
Yes, that was me. You could have simply stated that I commented because it wasn't right for you to falsely accuse me of being a clone while I was under a ban.

Those posts where you cited my reactions cost me 900 points and a two-month ban, which is still in effect.
So, what did it cost you to falsely label me a clone while I was banned, knowing full well you were risking my permanent ban?

Also, I have to ask—why did you wait two full months after my ban was lifted to finally chime in? Even though I haven't reached out to you once, nor have I addressed you in any capacity, you suddenly decided to jump on my posts just to lecture me about being "infantile." Why didn't you say anything when I first started posting again?
To me, it feels like nothing less than a blatant provocation.
