I wasn't sure what to watch last night, so I figured I'd give the new Pinocchio a shot—bad move. It’s not completely unwatchable, but honestly, you're better off just sticking to the animated classic. This version doesn't really bring anything new to the table; whatever it tries to add feels pretty pointless.
The biggest issue, though, has to be the casting. I mean, where did they find that eyesore playing the blue fairy? Then you've got the teacher and the townspeople being Black—in 19th-century America? 🤦 And Tom Hanks was a huge miss for me. I love the guy, but I just can't picture him playing an old man like Geppetto. Plus, the accents are all over the place—some people sound British, some have an Italian vibe, and then there's Hanks's weird mix of everything.
Visually, it looks great, but maybe it relies a bit too heavily on CGI—did Figaro really need to be computer-generated?
