The keyboard’s glowing, the mouse is lit up, the speakers have their lights on, the monitor is shining, and even the new rig is practically a disco, yet the screen itself is just staring back at me with absolutely nothing on it. It’s my first time firing this thing up to try and get Windows 10 installed, and so far, I'm just sitting here in the dark.

Every time I touch my PC, I get a literal shock of electricity.

What monitor are you running, and how'd you plug it in? You've got multiple video ports—both on the motherboard and the graphics card. You really need to plug it into the GPU at the bottom, not those ones up by the USB and PS/2 ports

I've got this old Samsung drive lying around, and I'm pretty sure I plugged it into the wrong part of the case, though I can't actually go in there to double-check right now.

Maybe the build has integrated graphics on the motherboard plus a dedicated GPU, and you just plugged the monitor into the wrong port.

The more specs you give us, the better.

My current setup

Gigabyte B360M h motherboard, LGA 1151 8th Gen
Intel Core i5-8400 processor (9MB Cache, 2.80GHz), LGA 1151, BX80684I58400
8GB DDR4 (1x8GB) PC4-24000U 3000MHz CL16 G.Skill Aegis, F4-3000C16S-8GISB
ASUS DUAL-GTX1060-O3G graphics card, 3 GB GDDR5, 192-bit, 1809/8008 MHz
500W FSP Fortron/source Hyper power supply, ATX 2.31, HP500, PPA5005003
Zalman Z1 mid tower case
1TB WD Blue HDD, 3.5", 7200RPM, 64MB Cache, SATA3, WD10EZEX

The only real issue I'm running into is that I have this other case lying around, but it only has one monitor port that actually fits; the other slot is just way too big for my needs.

Excuse me? Honestly, guys, isn't that a little bit unsettling?

Regarding the monitor issue, you might want to try hooking up a different screen—perhaps just grab a spare from a friend's place—to see if that clears things up. If you didn't build this rig yourself and bought it as a pre-built system, my advice is to take it straight back to the retailer and file a warranty claim immediately. If it turns out to be some minor glitch, they'll figure it out in a heartbeat, but if there's a more significant hardware fault, that's entirely on them to fix.

Alright, let me know what kind of monitor you're running—specifically, which ports are available on it.

It’d be way easier if they just named the monitor model. I bet they don't even know the difference between VGA, DVI, HDMI, or DP.

Honestly, this sounds more like a bad wiring issue in the house than anything wrong with the PC...

Honestly, I have no clue; I'll have to bug my brother about it since he was the one who picked it up.

EDIT :
The monitor works perfectly fine on my old PC, so at least we know it isn't dead.

Post a picture of that monitor cable and show me which ports you actually tried plugging it into from that shot.

The ones right above the blue USB ports, or these down here on the graphics card?

It’s been two days since my first post, and my buddy finally grabbed the rig to take it home and handle the Windows 10 installation himself. Honestly, thanks for all the input, but at this point, we're just spinning our wheels—it’s clearly not working and there's really no sense in continuing the troubleshooting here.

Look, if you actually gave some specific details, people might be able to help you out, but right now? Not really. Just because it works on your friend's monitor doesn't mean it's going to work on yours
