Issues creating an ISO file?

So, I'm trying to rip an ISO file from my Windows 10 installation DVD using “PowerISO”.
I mean, I followed every single step exactly like they told me to, but for some reason, the file I ended up with is just a RAR archive.
I have no clue why the hell it isn't showing up as an actual ISO format.
And get this—it’s the exact same crap happening when I try using “ImgBurn”; I just keep getting a RAR file over and over again.

So, why are you even looking for an ISO? What’s the end game here... what are you actually trying to do with it? Honestly, your best bet might be just grabbing it straight from the Microsoft site—use one of those official Windows download tools they provide. If you play your cards right and select a DVD instead of a USB drive during the process, it might just spit out an ISO file for you... though I can't say for certain, since I've always just stuck to using a thumb drive myself.

Look, I need this because I'm trying to make a bootable USB so I can actually install Windows from a thumb drive instead of messing around with discs.
The instructions say I gotta grab Rufus and an ISO image of Windows to get it done

Just grab it straight from the Microsoft site—that way you know you're getting the official, up-to-date version with all the latest patches included. You don't even need to mess around with Rufus or anything else... Just plug in your USB drive, point the tool toward that drive, and it'll handle the downloading and the mounting to the USB automatically... pretty seamless, really.

Alright, I get what you're saying, but I'm still stuck on this for next time... if I ever need to whip up an ISO file (for a game or whatever), why does it end up being in a rar format instead of just a straight-up ISO

It’s still just an ISO file. Just change the "open with" option. Click the file and switch the "open with" setting from WinRAR to PowerISO.

RAR is basically just leftover tech from the days of 32-bit Windows and FAT32 systems, where you were stuck with a 4GB file limit. Back then, you couldn't even fit a 4GB+ ISO on a drive like that without issues.

Just unzip the RAR file and call it a day. ☕
