Laptop recommendations?

I’m trying to figure out what my old laptop is actually worth these days
It’s an HP Pavilion 17 that I picked up brand new back at
Best Buy on May 26, 2014. It’s running Windows 8.1, and I even went out and grabbed a fresh battery for it back in 2016
That battery cost me about 50 bucks, and I also popped in an extra 4GB of RAM so it’s sitting at 8GB total now. When I first pulled the trigger, the price was $1200 during a sale, but honestly, I just want to know what kind of realistic cash I can get for it today. I’m looking to upgrade to something better—ideally something 15" or larger—and I’d be totally down for a trade-in if you're willing to cover the difference

You’re probably not going to like my estimate, but honestly, you’ll be lucky to get more than $400 from anyone. Let's be real—it's not even going to be that much. Selling used laptops is a nightmare, especially when it's a lower-end model with a weak processor like yours.

Besides, you totally overpaid for this thing. Even back before 3G, you could have snagged a much better laptop for what you spent.

I truly fail to see any logical justification for anyone to shell out more than $100 for such an item, and even then, only if they happen to be having an exceptionally lucky day. If I were personally in the market for something secondhand and budget-friendly, I would find myself willing to stretch my limit to perhaps $33, though I say that with all due respect to those with different priorities.
