True, but they could have easily aired fewer replays and more live action. Especially during the finalsβwhatβs the point of seeing a replay of a high jump when everyone is already hovering around 190cm? You get these situations where they play a replay of a shot put throw that landed in 6th place, while a favorite is actually stepping up for a medal. Instead of going live, they just leave it for a replay.
Or look at the high jump finish. They spend forever showing replays of failed attempts while the leaders are attacking 1.99 or 2.01 to decide the gold. Just watch the first eight minutes of the 5000m race.
Jeremy Hall4 said:Only 7 athletes started 31 miles (the first time this has happened at a World Championship) and only 4 actually finished.
This is a disaster. Why couldn't they just scrap this event entirely, or at least consider reducing the field to 25 miles for future meets? Otherwise, you end up in a situation where someone finishes and still walks away with a medal. π
Maybe some championships aren't everything because they lack top-tier results, but at least the events stay tense and exciting, especially the technical ones.
Good luck to Sandra tonight.

The people over at 12 miles π¬
are driving me insane...
Look, you and I aren't even playing the same game here. π

Oh, right, because women are totally equal, right?

Oh sure, women are totally equal, right?
They are. But when you see cases like this, itβs clear we need to rethink things. Itβs just basic logicβjust like they don't lift the exact same weights on the machines, they shouldn't be forced into the same walking disciplines either.

Anthony Baker84 said:By the way, how do they actually determine the point values for results in the decathlon? Like, whatβs the logic behind deciding a specific height earns someone 1000 points, and how does the scoring scale up or down from there? I'm also curious about how they manage to balance all those different disciplines against one another.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decathlon#Points_system
There are actually two separate formulas used to calculate points based on performanceβone specifically for the running events and another for the technical field events.
Generally speaking, hitting that 1000-point mark is roughly equivalent to hitting a world record in that specific discipline, though in most instances, a true world record will actually push well beyond 1000 points.
At the end of the day, trying to create a fair scoring system for the decathlon is an incredibly tricky task; the current setup isn't perfect by any means, but itβs probably the best version we've come up with so far.

I have to say, this whole championship feels a bit underwhelming to me. Looking at the results, I can't help but wonder if it's all due to those stricter anti-doping protocols π. Most of the heavy hitters ended up underperforming, and since we didn't see a single world record broken, it just felt somewhat lackluster overall π
. While it was always expected that the USA would dominate the medal count, I wasn't exactly hoping to see them crush everyone quite this convincingly.
