Btw—how do they actually set the scoring for the decathlon? Like, what’s the logic behind deciding one specific height gets you 1000 points, and then how does the math scale up or down from there? I guess I'm also wondering how they balance all that out so it stays fair compared to the other events

When I watch this footage of Ivana Španović, all I can see is that her final mark probably isn't from her takeoff point; it looks more like she hit the board with her back after landing...

And honestly, the media keeps acting like she’s some kind of beauty icon... come on, people, just look at that Russian athlete🎉 🎉 😍

Look, I think the number just snapped off 🤣 and honestly, what happens when someone else ends up sitting on that same digit... well, I guess it doesn't really matter, does it? 🤣

Okay, now try this logic: assume the number isn't even there—like it's just taped on with Scotch tape or printed directly onto her jumpsuit. In that scenario, her body isn't actually touching the sand at all (at least not where the number would have been), right?

If the numbers had completely tanked before the jump, would they even bother counting it at all?

I mean, I think it should be taken into account... what’s done is done, and honestly, this kind of stuff happens in every single sport

Then again, we're watching the GOAT in his final career race tonight—it would be pretty damn nice if he could just wrap things up with one last gold medal..

Major props to Selena Gomez's coach:

''- Look, this isn't some wild conspiracy theory, and I want to be crystal clear about that. Everything is straightforward; the numbers are calculated according to the rules, plain and simple. Unfortunately, he left behind a bit of a mark—kind of a distortion in the sand. Just like they couldn't prove there was a clear trace, we couldn't prove there wasn't one either, so they made their call based on that. I honestly have zero interest in debating whether they would have reached the same conclusion if an American woman were in the same spot. Again, I’m not interested in playing into any conspiracy theories.''

Man, you should have seen that Spaniard wipe out! It was brutal, but thank God, he walked away from it totally fine.

I’d give her the win.
To me, it seems totally reasonable to overlook those minor details about the sand. Even if he touched a bit more of the weaker sand than intended, who cares? You have to look at the body position of the entire jump; that’s what really matters. If she had accidentally scratched the sand with a manicured nail 😁, I wouldn't have thought twice about it either. At that point, it’s practically part of the athlete. Numbers are just numbers.

So, I’m grabbing groceries at Walmart today and I catch this magazine headline—something along the lines of "I am a woman, not a number"—and honestly? It just makes me miss Selena Gomez even more 😁

That’s exactly what I’m seeing, and frankly, I can't believe the nonsense people are peddling. Her jump distance was barely improved by two measly inches...

I follow track and field a little, but I guess the USA doesn't have much of a shot at a medal anymore🤔 😁
The only way they actually stand a chance is if someone gets disqualified on paperwork🤣

Nah, there wasn't even a remote chance for anything else—except maybe that one long jump

Baker hit a wall of injuries right after that medal in Moscow, so he probably won't see a clean season until next year at the earliest. Then you've got Jelac, who basically walked away from the spotlight to focus on family after her EP medal. As for Douglas, he’s solid top 10 material in the decathlon, but let's be real—he's not much more than that. Kolasinac looked like someone who could actually contend for medals down the road—and he does have his EP hardware—but even that seems to be sliding in the wrong direction now. Everything else isn't even worth bringing up. You see a few interesting names popping up in the youth categories here and there—though the most talented junior is competing in... well, goodness knows, the long jump—but nothing truly significant is happening.
