Movies and shows with ambiguous endings or confusing plots

That ending? It feels like it was specifically designed to pull the rug out from under an audience that just spent two intense hours locked into the story...

I was watching this the other day on TV and honestly, I just couldn't wrap my head around the ending. What actually happened to those two characters who disappeared earlier on? So, okay, everything outside the spacecraft was a simulation, I get that, but did they really have to kill off two people? And who knows, maybe those people ended up killing their friends too. If the whole point was supposed to be a simulation of space travel, then what was the deal with all those people out there? Why would they let some random guy just wander right into their base—it felt almost intentional, didn't it? I don't know, it all felt a little bit silly to me. And if it was actually meant to be some kind of apocalypse... well, the ending was just such a letdown. Maybe I missed something important?

I've probably watched it a dozen times now, and every single time I feel the same way: 🙏, it isn't vague at all—it turns out he really is a man from the Paleolithic Era who's 15,000 years old, which gets confirmed by the end.

P.S. Honestly, people can say whatever they want, but that movie deserved an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The way the dialogue and monologues carry the entire film while staying in one room is incredible—it's actually more engaging than 99% of modern movies because the story alone keeps you hooked. You find yourself praying to God that the film won't end; any further commentary feels unnecessary.

The core plot is all there, and personally, I think they nailed the atmosphere. It’s never easy adapting James—he's easily one of the most brilliant yet polarizing authors out there. That might be why the film didn't exactly win over the crowds or the critics.

If you're looking for another lovely adaptation based on Henry James—even if this one also flopped The Golden Bowl—here's a suggestion.
