Thoughts on the Deepwater Horizon movie?

Mark Wahlberg really cements himself as the king of predictable cinema here—maybe even the trademark face of a "boring" production. Even all those massive special effects showing the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, caused by the negligence of ExxonMobil leadership back in 2010, couldn't save this movie from being an absolute snooze fest. It loses me practically from the first minute, earning just a mediocre rating.

The film is packed with action scenes filled with panic and dread, trying so hard to signal the coming disaster that it actually becomes absurd. Like when a worker just stands there frozen, staring at a few drops of oil on his finger instead of reacting instantly to fix the pump? Then there’s the "fireworks" when the rig explodes, leading into apocalyptic scenes of workers caught in the blast. Given how realistic the explosion looks, having only 11 people die without their remains being found almost feels low.

It tries to mask its empty core with frantic camera work and rapid-fire editing, building up tension and chaos through constant explosions. I guess it'll satisfy the action junkies out there. 1/5.

It’s actually not a bad movie at all. Honestly, I’d take this over those Marvel movies any day of the week.

I am actually watching the movie right now. In my humble opinion, I would give it a 5/10.

The only reason I am giving it a five instead of a four, I suppose, is because the main character is a bit of a geek, much like myself.😁

I saw someone nail this exact sentiment on IMDb, and honestly, they hit the nail right on the head—that's basically the whole story in a nutshell.

I can't even remember the last time I sat through a disaster blockbuster that felt this incredibly real; it’s easily one of the best movies ever made within this genre.

It’s a brutally realistic destruction flick that works just as well as a documentary as it does an action movie. Someone on IMDb nailed it—that's basically the gist of it.

Agreed, definitely one of the few gems from last year... solid storytelling, decent characters, some impressive scenes, and zero forced sentimentality. 👍Finally, a pleasant surprise.

I found this film to be quite excellent. It is yet another production based on actual events—nothing overly sensationalized, which I find preferable. There was no excessive hype surrounding it, which often makes for a better viewing experience. In my opinion, it was truly superb.👍
