Best headphones under $60?

Greetings!

I am looking to pick up my father a pair of headphones for his upcoming birthday, ideally by $133.

My gut instinct says to go with Bose, but I thought I would reach out here first—perhaps there is some wild new tech hitting the market that I am completely unaware of 😁 👍

To clarify my requirements:
The primary goal is pure music enjoyment
I have no need for a microphone; in fact, I think it might just get in the way.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (or maybe the SR950) is probably your best bet under $133, and ASAP I think it actually beats out those Bose 2xx or 4xx models. Like, the Sony MDR-7506 is really solid, but it still feels a little weaker than the Audio-Technica. You should be able to find them at local shops easily—right now they've got them $124 over at Best Buy. There are a few other decent picks in that price range, like the Sony MDR-ZX110, though you won't see those much in our local stores. If you're curious about those instead, maybe check out what I posted a few days ago in that thread about the best headphones under $83. I suggested a couple of really high-quality pairs there for around $50. 🙂

But today, I saw the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x drop down to just $116 (and I even spotted the Behringer BH 440 at one online shop for about $67). So, if you ended up paying $100 for the Sony MDR-7506 (that's the lowest price on Amazon right now), you might have actually wanted to look at the Audio-Technica too. That $16 difference is honestly kind of a "small thing" when you consider the jump in sound quality you get with the Audio-Technica.🙂 The Sony MDR-7506 has better isolation and a punchier bass (though I wouldn't say it sounds "better"), and I guess some people just find them more comfortable than the Audio-Technica or the Behringer. If comfort was your main thing, then yeah, you made a solid choice.🙂
