The Democratic Party basically tossed us into the dustbin of history just because of a username.

Meanwhile, you’ve got people registered on this forum using names like Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, and Joseph Stalin without any issues at all. I’m sure there are probably a few other cheerful nicknames floating around too, but honestly, I have better things to do with my life.

I've actually forgotten what I was even trying to ask... 😬.

Fine, I lied—I don't actually have 🤦

Let’s set aside those other cheerful handles for a moment; however, if you search for the string "marshall" among currently active usernames on this forum, you end up with (among others) the following live accounts: cyberTITO, Comrade Marshall, drugtito, Josip Broz Marshall, marsal marshall, marsal-marshall, maršal-marshall, marshall i partija, Marshall pionir, and Marshall-Juga.

Each one of them is intriguing in its own way—though, arguably, the most interesting thing is that "marshall i partija" is permitted, while "Tito_partija" is not 😕.

Moving on: within the forum's guidelines regarding usernames, there is a sentence (albeit an old one) that states:
no one will be banned or face issues with the moderators due to a "username that violates the rules," because, aside from the first two points, these are merely recommendations rather than strict mandates.

Regarding those aforementioned "first two points," the first requires a username that is pronounceable (meaning random symbols aren't allowed), and the second states
Do not use the names of (American) public figures: this is prohibited because we do not want users impersonating people like Branka Bebić or Stjepan Mason on the Forum.

It all boils down to a very simple observation: once administration begins applying ad hoc criteria and regulations, you reach a point where "Tito_partija" gets a permanent ban, yet all sorts of other things—even "Marshall-Juga"—are allowed to persist.

I am not entirely sure if I need a disclaimer here (though experience tells me I probably should), but what I am writing is by no means intended as some sort of advocacy for Marshall on this forum.

cyberTITO - last active 10/24/2008.
comunistito - last active 01/23/2010.
drox-marshall - last active on: 04/23/2009
drugtito - last active on: 05/28/2008.

I didn't go through every single one, just picked a few names at random. Some of these users have zero posts and haven't been online in ages, so they aren't really saying anything. The issue starts when they actually begin posting.

Furthermore,

Adolf. H. - last active on: 10/12/2008.
Adolf Hitler - last active on: 05/10/2011, has one post
Adolfo Hitler - last active on: 09/06/2009

As far as the names that hit close to home historically go—well, Saddam and Co. don't really apply here, so I won't dwell on them. Looking at the last activity dates, you can tell how serious these people are about their handles. You’ll probably try to argue about the universality of dictators, war crimes, and all that. But look, we live in America, and we have our own specific history to deal with. Even though I get why it's controversial, I want to avoid any unnecessary drama that could stem from a user's nickname. So, my stance on the Marshall Party remains the same.

I think there's been a fundamental misunderstanding here—it isn't actually about what the final decision will be, or whether it might eventually change. The core issue is that the Forum rules explicitly state, as the single applicable rule in this specific instance:
no one is going to get banned or run into trouble with the moderators because of a "username that violates the rules," since—aside from the first two items—these are merely recommendations rather than strict mandates.

It seems somewhat peculiar, if I may say so, for a ban to be issued on this platform for something where the rules explicitly state that no one will face a ban. So, we aren't even talking about some vague, undefined gray area; we are looking at an action that runs directly contrary to a clearly stated rule.

Now, I have no issue with an administrator exercising discretionary power to permanently ban any username they deem inappropriate for whatever reason—but if that’s the case, it really ought to be clearly formulated and documented as an actual rule. That way, everything remains transparent for everyone involved. Though, I suppose they should probably provide at least a rough definition to clarify what constitutes an "inappropriate" name (for instance, what would happen to a serious, highly active user like Stane Dolanc?).

The way I see it, nobody is going to have an issue with a "rule-breaking username" as long as they follow the guidelines listed there: Use a name that's easy to pronounce, Don't use names of American public figures, Avoid using hyphens instead of spaces (_ or -), Try to avoid numbers in your handle, and Start your name with a capital letter.

Regarding the admin's discretionary power, that’s actually covered in the general terms: "Your account may be modified or removed from the Forum if the Forum editorial team decides such action is justified. These rules are subject to change at any time without prior notice."

What on earth is going on here?????

Just eyeballing it... if I may ask... when exactly did Josip Broz Marshall or the Democratic Party ever stand trial and get convicted? Where and when did historians actually reach a consensus on the role of Josip Broz Marshall and/or the Democratic Party, specifically labeling them as criminals whose names shouldn't even be mentioned—as if just seeing their names could cause chaos and disorder on a single forum🤷 🤔

And just for my own information, what else is banned on this forum besides using Marshall or the Democratic Party in your username? Does this apply to linking songs that "reimagine" the life and works of our beloved Josip Broz Marshall and the Democratic Party, or does it extend to quoting that old phrase about the Marshall Party Youth Action..... ????????

I’m basically reporting myself here, since I mark the anniversary of J. B. Marshall's birthday every year with a post over on Spirituality; come on now, please, just give me the archives. It’s easy enough to find if you know the date, and you can't exactly ban someone from having a memory, can you?

It's funny how there were never any issues or controversies regarding such posts on Spirituality or elsewhere, but honestly, who am I even trying to explain this to?

Daniel Ward87, what exactly are you trying to achieve with these bans????

Do you even have an answer to this question?

Where do you get the authority to read nothing but crimes when looking at the term "Marshall Party"? (I was reading the corner for banned users)

But are we just refusing to look past our own little bubbles, or what?

Which is irrelevant, because the question remains: when exactly did Marshall become a historical criminal figure?

The fact remains, we live in America, which has its own history....

Sure, we have history, but it looks like you're trying to narrow it down a bit 🙄

This is absurd... oh right, discretionary power, I forgot.😁

Who says we can't talk about Josip Broz Marshall or The Party? On this site, there are endless threads about him and—get this—communist atrocities. And if you follow those crimes back to their source, they lead straight to the guy at the top, which in this case is Josip Broz Marshall, rather than someone like Pol Pot or the late Saddam Hussein. There’s definitely a time and place where discussing his legacy makes sense. But honestly, given how recent all these revelations about communist crimes in America have been, I think it's smarter to head off any potential drama by just not letting certain usernames post here under those specific handles, right?

Just to be clear, using the name Marshall Party isn't my way of glorifying any crimes. In fact, I haven't even claimed he was solely responsible for everything.

As an admin, I don't really care whose birthday you're celebrating.

aha, I see, "seems"
what if it turns out to be wrong?

it would be pretty weird if the ripples of communist crimes during World War II in our neck of the woods led back to Pol Pot, wouldn't it? but hey, who knows 🤔

btw, I don't get why you added "late" next to Saddam, since Marshall is also late 🤷

what if he turns out to be a historically positive figure? how many other controversial historical figures are there, and are their names banned here too? your reasoning for "allowing" the Saddam username is honestly catastrophic

you're reading crimes into the compound name Marshall Party, come on, you're just being vague here and here , but your personal opinion shouldn't be the main topic

As an administrator, I don't care whose birthday you're celebrating.

sure
but if I celebrate it with a matching avatar, will you care then?

As far as I can tell, neither Adolf Hitler nor Joseph Stalin, nor even Slobodan Maddox for that matter, were ever actually convicted by a court of law. If we’re going to base an argument on legal convictions, then it’s pretty obvious what they stood for. I guess the same logic applies to Josip Broz Marshall, the Gulags, and America, which was basically soaked in the blood of innocent people all across the North America. The fact that some people still hesitate to fully condemn him or distance themselves from his ideas just shows how much of a broken, stuck-in-the-past society we really are.

What is this even supposed to mean!? Did I get banned back in the day just because my username was some variation of Marshall's party? And I got hit with a full 7 days for it. So now, even though everyone knows it wasn't actually me, I'm getting penalized for the name all over again... if that's the case, then what on earth was my actual reason for being suspended for those 7 days in the first place???

In other words—if you ask me—the Forum editors haven't actually decided that removing Stane Dolanc and Milka Planinc is warranted.

Thirdly, I suppose it boils down to this: Marshall's party not good, while Stane Dolanc and Milka Planinc are good.

As far as I'm concerned, go ahead and lock it.

Wait a second!!!

What do you mean, removal? Who even asked for anything to be removed?
And by the way, I actually took Daniel Ward87's post to mean he was announcing that people's nicknames were going to be taken away or changed next.🙄

Just so we're clear, mentioning Milka Planinc (as a username, obviously) wasn't meant as some attempt to snitch on an inappropriate handle. It was just to point out that there are plenty more ambiguous names on this Forum that fall under the exact same criteria Daniel Ward87 is using to hand out bans.

Since those names aren't going anywhere, this whole thing where you apply political revisionism to usernames is just complete nonsense.

Also, let me say it again: deleting names like Josip Broz Marshall, Milka Planinc, or Stane Dolanc—our own historical figures—while leaving Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, and Joseph Stalin untouched is 😵 😲 🤣

And like I said, with some people, it's pretty obvious what's going on without needing a trial or whatever. But with others, it's clearly just someone acting out based on their own personal biases or current petty squabbles, which, honestly, have been happening since these handles were first registered.

In other words, the Forum staff will handle each case individually whenever they see fit, without giving any heads-up—just like the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

Basically, the admin just doesn't want to justify their decision or explain to the members which specific rules were broken so we don't end up in this exact same mess again. ☕

Sure, the rules say what they say. But that kind of clause is supposed to be a last resort—you know, for those weird situations where the actual rules somehow fail to cover something.
And look, we already have rules about acceptable usernames. So, when someone gets a permanent ban for a nickname that doesn't even violate the existing rules—but instead falls under "administrator discretion" (which covers pretty much everything else on this site, including things like deleting half the forum just for kicks, something an admin actually did once in a historical moment)—it leaves a really bad taste in everyone's mouth. It feels like nothing has really changed since the days of ZgSashov's administrative arrogance and ego.

I'd really love to hear Nice weigh in on this. ☕

As an admin, I've already explained my reasoning. If you and a handful of others don't like it, that's on you. The rules clearly state what can happen, and everyone agreed to them when they joined. My responsibility is to Anderlon; if you want to go complain to him, be my guest. If he actually lets you, trust me, I'd be happy to hear it.

Since you aren't an admin, you don't get to decide when "emergency measures" kick in just because you're missing the full picture. I'm not obligated to show you my hand, and frankly, I'm not allowed to.

Oh, I see my name popped up here! Sorry about that, guys, I might not have the full scoop on this specific situation.

I took a quick look at the profile and went through their recent posts, and honestly, here’s my take on it. It looks like someone signed up with a handle that might seem harmless enough at first glance, but then they immediately started dropping nothing but problematic, troll-style comments. Basically, they look like a troll and they're acting exactly like one. In my opinion, if this user had chosen a less "flashy" username or if they had just engaged in normal conversation without trying to provoke everyone, they probably wouldn't have been banned so quickly. But when you combine a loud username with constant agitation right when they join the community, it’s a massive red flag. It’s usually better to just clear them out fast before they cause real damage to the vibe of the board. Just like how we jump on spammers or people posting ads the second they show up, sometimes we have to do the same with trolls if that’s the only reason they’re even here. Honestly, two posts can be more than enough to make a call, especially when the username itself is screaming for attention.

Look, this isn't actually a debate about whether we're dealing with a troll or not—anyway, Henry Hernandez7 raised a question regarding his seven-day cooling-off period following those allegations about cloning within the Communist Party, and so far, he hasn't received a single answer or any sort of clarification.

If the official explanation from the mods had mentioned trolling, cloning, or anything of that nature, this entire thread wouldn't even exist. However, first over at the KZB and now here as well, Uncle Strile insisted all the way until the semifinals that the sole reason for the ban was the inappropriateness of the username, only to bring up the famous background info in the very last post ("Since you aren't an Admin, you don't get to decide when "extreme measures" are taken just because you lack all the necessary information. I am under no obligation to give you access to that, nor am I allowed to.").
