Jacob Cooper5 said:It’s honestly hard for me to wrap my head around how the most active forum in the entire US can't seem to pull together enough cash to cover its basic operating costs.

I didn't say there wasn't any 😉

Let's be real—this forum hasn't seen proper maintenance in years (much like the rest of the country, really). Money seems to be flowing everywhere else, yet somehow it always ends up in someone's pocket instead of where it belongs...

This specific server just isn't capable of it. Other platforms could manage; a little upgrade here, a little there, and you're set—it’s actually quite simple. Or, they could just purge the ancient users sitting in permanent bans or those with zero posts, and clean out the threads that haven't seen life in ages—those dead topics just sitting there on page fifty of some PDF alongside fifty duplicate threads.

All of this could be fixed easily, but I suppose it just doesn't serve anyone's interests to actually do it...

We're basically just cutting corners until the whole thing eventually collapses. Not too long ago—older members will remember—the list of active users was three or four times longer, even during the late-night hours when traffic was thin. Now? Everything has plummeted—the numbers, the quality, all of it...

And frankly, I have no idea why. This used to be the gold standard for forums—the kind of place nobody could touch...
Maybe I’m not the best person to judge since I don't post much myself—back in the day I mostly just read, and while I still do, the decline is impossible to ignore.

Until someone at the top—the head admins—actually takes responsibility for the site, handles the updates, and manages both the technical side (the servers) and the internal stuff (the PDFs, the rules), the forum is just going to continue its slow decay...

It looks like they’re scrubbing the old archives. I’ve been around this forum forever, and I remember a few years back when I tried digging through my own history—using an old handle just out of curiosity—and found absolutely nothing. Back then, the activity levels were way higher than they are now, so it feels like a massive chunk of history just vanished into thin air... and honestly, deleting all that data doesn't seem to be fixing any of the actual underlying issues.
Well, I guess on the bright side, at least we aren't dealing with those constant timeouts that used to plague the site for a while there.

Hey, does anyone know why I can't seem to access old posts from seven or eight years ago?

It’s likely possible, though you'll probably have to hunt them down manually... assuming they haven't been purged already due to being long-abandoned threads.

I mean, couldn't we just link out to an external search engine like Google? We could probably just tweak the settings so it only searches terms within this specific site. Honestly, just stripping the option away entirely feels like a massive step backward.

Double post. Just realized the server totally crapped out on me via PM... 😁

That's actually a solid point. Though, honestly, I'd bet the webmaster already thought of it—there’s probably some underlying technical headache preventing them from actually pulling it off.

How do you even search this forum? If you’re using Google Chrome, just type "forum.com" into your browser's address bar. On my end, it shows up as a little gray box that says "Search on forum.com." Just click that and type in whatever you're looking for. 😉

Honestly, I just type the term into Google and tack on "US forums" at the end, and everything pops right up.

Try doing it the other way around. Type "Reddit" first, then your search term. It works just like the old search engine used to. You'll probably get the same results, or at least most of them. Personally? I think this way is better.🙂

I honestly don't care about the order—I just swap between them whenever the mood strikes me. It doesn't really matter at this point.

Seriously, is it even possible that a whole year has gone by and the search function still doesn't work?

Do people honestly think it's easy to manually dig through a hundred-page thread just to find one piece of info you actually need?!

Look, we already covered this above... Does it even matter? A standard search through Google—or pretty much any other search engine—works perfectly fine when you just tack on the forum's URL at the end...
What actually gets under my skin is how the site fails to show me anything new, current, or relevant—it just sticks to active subscriptions. Plus, you can't even pull up profiles or specific posts properly. It’s just a massive pile of basic features that you'd honestly expect to work...
