Between the technical glitches, those weird plot holes, some cringey dialogue, and a few actors who just didn't fit the roles... man, there's a lot to unpack. Honestly, it's on the production team too, because I feel like Christopher Nolan could easily pull off a six-hour epic without breaking a sweat 😬 But look, I still love his movies! It’s just that something always feels like it's missing for me...

I'm no technical expert, so I won't pretend to debate the mechanics of filmmaking. I can tell you if a shot, a scene, or a cut works for me or not, but I have zero interest in dissecting the "why" behind every technical choice or arguing over how it could have been done differently. Every director has flaws. Even an icon like Alfred Hitchcock wasn't perfect—just look at the logic in Psycho. We could go on forever like this: one person calls the San Francisco Bay a disaster, while another claims Christopher Nolan is a pure artist.

The opening of The Stranger lacks logic, sure, but the movie is so good you barely even care, or you just rely on a bit of Suspension of disbelief. Does it matter if Bruno could physically make it to Guy's apartment that fast? Honestly, I don't care. That’s just how Nolan builds his worlds. I have no interest in those kinds of debates. Besides, there are plenty of other plot holes and inconsistencies to deal with.

That’s exactly the point. Christopher Nolan's films aren't empty shells. That is precisely why his work holds up. Sure, something might be flawed, or a certain choice might not sit right with someone, but they always have cinematic soul. They always do.

The main reason I picked up Inception specifically is because it’s such a massive blockbuster. Plus, I honestly think it's one of DiCaprio's weaker roles... but I still love it for those wild, original ideas and the way Christopher Nolan tackles themes that clearly fascinate him...

Both actors are top-tier, and honestly, Edward Norton is one of my absolute favorites. I don’t really care much about the whole Academy Award chase or collecting trophies; I just want to see Norton land another truly great role. It feels a bit pointless trying to pit them against each other since they’re both incredible in their own right and aren't really competing for the same space.
If someone could somehow manage to cast Norton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Michael Shannon all in a single movie, that would be the ultimate win.

ot- It's gotta be Norton, obviously... and honestly, he was way more convincing as the kid in Primal Fear than DiCaprio was in those overacted basketball diaries. DiCaprio just can't pull off a transformation like Norton did in American History X. For him, one Christian Bale performance is basically a masterclass.
Norton is also freaking brilliant in 25th Hour.

It’s been forever since I’ve seen an Edward Norton movie. Back when Leo was actually the king of the A-list box office, mostly pulling off killer movies over this last decade.

People seriously don't seem to grasp that being on an A-list doesn't automatically equate to superior acting; it’s like they just can't wrap their heads around it. Let's be real: DiCaprio has movies like Inception, Shutter Island, The Departed, and The Revenant—films that qualify as A-list tier regardless of what anyone thinks—but his performance in them is mediocre at best. Nothing more. Then you look at Revolutionary Road, which perfectly illustrates just how weak DiCaprio is when he's tasked with emotional depth. He's much better suited for roles in Wolf, Django, or Catch Me If You Can. Personally, I think he struggles to carry any serious drama or anything requiring genuine emotion. The true greats could pull that off, but I simply don't see it in him.

Norton is working on a film based on the book Motherless Brooklyn. I'm not sure what the status of the project is or when it'll drop, but I'm definitely hyped for it since it's about a detective with Tourette syndrome. I have zero doubt he'll nail this one too.

I really like both actors. Personally, I lean toward Leo just because his filmography is so much stronger. And honestly, saying none of his roles will stick? That’s total bullshit. His performance in Wolf is definitely going to stay with people, even if just for that scene where he's crawling toward the car while high. I agree that those gritty roles suit him better, so I hope he keeps picking movies like that. It's harder to snag awards with those types of films, but now that he's finally bagged an Academy Award, maybe he can take a break from the depressing stuff for a bit.

Leo is a perfectly decent actor, I suppose, but he tends to fall into that trap—much like Julia Roberts does—where he isn't really playing a character so much as just playing himself... whereas when I think of Norton, my mind immediately goes to the specific roles he’s inhabited, while Leo’s characters, despite how many there may be, all seem to blur into one indistinguishable persona...

Leo is a solid actor, sure, but he (just like Julia Roberts) always ends up playing himself. When I think of Norton, I think of his specific characters. When I think of Leo's characters—even though he's got plenty—they all kind of blur together.

It's because Bale and Norton aren't quite in the same league as DiCaprio and Norton.

Edit: And let's be real, everyone just hypes up DiCaprio like he's some kind of god. I get it, he's great, but "the greatest ever"? Not really.

It’s kind of tough to make a direct comparison, but I get the feeling that Leonardo DiCaprio is definitely being pushed more. He seems to land all these massive lead roles lately—I mean, he was in The Great Gatsby, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Revenant... whereas Edward Norton mostly played supporting roles in things like The Grand Budapest Hotel or Birdman...

To be fair, Edward Norton did have some really heavy-hitting parts in American History X, Fight Club, The Illusionist, and 25th Hour... but I guess he just doesn't seem to be getting those kinds of roles as often anymore...

Edward Norton, without a doubt—he’s easily my favorite actor. I don't really see the point in comparing him to Leonardo DiCaprio, who seems to lean much more toward commercial blockbusters these days. To me, Norton belongs in that elite tier alongside Daniel Day-Lewis; both of them are absolute masters when it comes to disappearing into a role.

I'm with you, it's a toss-up between him and Daniel Day-Lewis. I just wanted to run this poll to see if people actually think Leonardo DiCaprio is better than Edward Norton.
Since Edward Norton is my top pick, I end up watching his stuff way more than anything Daniel Day-Lewis does. So, whenever I finish one of his movies, I find myself checking out polls like this comparing him to Edward Norton.😁
