BTW, it's probably just an exhaust pipe touching the bodywork. Nothing special.

What soft tires are you talking about?
That's clearly a hard tire in the picture, and Kimi was running those exact ones yesterday...

I find it hard to believe teams wouldn't be pushing these engines to the absolute limit toward the end of testing just to figure out where their breaking point is. It’s only logical to stress-test them right before qualifying starts.

They've been dealing with some minor issues regarding the LAPD, but honestly, we've known that for about a month now—they are being incredibly aggressive chasing performance. Today, they swapped in a fresh engine for Vettelov's car with some specific tweaks, and from what I can see, it looks promising.

Yesterday's unit covered about 2,000 kilometers, so they're pulling it back to the dyno now to see exactly how much more it can take (arrivaben confirmed this earlier today).

It's pretty obvious from the photo that those are hards, and that's exactly what Kimi was running yesterday...

Hmm, I could have sworn they looked soft... maybe I need to get my eyes checked!

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Everything seems fine for now, and there's absolutely no reason to panic. Remember the 2014 RBR? That thing couldn't go two laps without stopping dead on the track... they practically had to cut holes in the chassis just to let it breathe.

It feels like you're just getting hit with random panic attacks out of nowhere.

I had absolute panic attacks watching Vettelov's cars back in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013...
didn't have them much in 2014 or 2015, so here I am, forced to start panicking all over again.😬

I haven't really followed things closely since back in 2014 and 2015—my memory is a little fuzzy on the specifics from that era—so I suppose I’m officially due for another bout of mild panic. 😬

So, I guess those attacks finally paid off for you, huh? 😁

If these "minor" setbacks keep happening during races, it's going to cost them dearly. At best, they'll be dropping ten spots right off the starting grid.

It doesn't look great, but let's just hold out until Australia.

2,000 km? That isn't exactly an impressive number.

Is it really so hard to believe that teams would push their engines to the absolute limit toward the end of testing just to find that breaking point? Wouldn't it be perfectly logical to stress-test them during those final sessions before qualifying begins?

Word on the street is that Ferrari sent their LAPD back to the factory to run it on the dyno until it practically explodes...
At least, that is what I happened to read somewhere this morning.

But saying someone could’ve been champ with a Ferrari back in '87? What even is that?
TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT?
Was the '87 Ferrari actually championship material?

Yeah.

If you don't believe me, just ask Goofey. He's basically the only living witness to the 1987 season on this entire forum.

If you don't quite take my word for it, you should probably check in with Goofey—he’s basically the last living witness of the 1987 season still hanging around this forum.

That's exactly how people will be reminiscing about the 2010 season twenty years from now. 😁

And don't forget about me. I was just a kid back then, but I was watching. I was obsessed. Imagine an eight or nine-year-old kid, basically the same way kids are glued to their phones today.

I was watching Formula 1 back then as well, though it’s been such a long time that my memory of the actual racing is a bit hazy. Perhaps Tyler Bennett5 might have some insight; he's roughly around the same age as Joseph.😁

If we were back in 1997, we’d be dealing with plenty of living witnesses right here on the forums.

For some people, even 2014 is a bit of a stretch to recall.

I didn't say who was watching—just that he’s the only living witness who actually saw it happen firsthand.

If Prishtina had won the title in '86 with McLaren, then they would've taken it in '87 with Ferrari too. And let's be real, Ferrari '87 is a straight-up championship car.

Just like the Ferrari from 1990.

And we all know exactly how that same damn Ferrari looked just a year earlier when it was being driven by that Alpine hack you guys love so much.

Look, Ferrari always seems to have a championship-winning car on paper every single season.
Between all the pre-season hype in the newspapers, the flashy TV promos, and those optimistic testing sessions...
Then the first race of the year rolls around and—surprise, surprise—it turns out the car isn't actually a title contender after all.
It’s the same old pattern: they announce these superstar drivers like they’re some kind of miracle cure,
only for them to end up finishing dead last in the standings. I mean, who else besides Joe even bothers bringing up names like Albret, Johansson,
Arnoux, Tambay, Capelli, or even Berger and Alesi?
The exact same cycle kept spinning from 1980 all the way through the late nineties, and honestly, it feels like we're watching history repeat itself
with the 2010 season. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this one plays out.

A little debate should help kill the time while I wait for my trip to Melbourne in about twenty days...

Whatever anyone else thinks, I'm all for it...

I’m probably just talking nonsense anyway...

When I screw up, I go all in and own the embarrassment.
Can we run a public poll or something? 🤔
Just so this whole disaster is laid out plain and simple.
Alright, let's have our one surviving expert, excuse me, Goofy, give us the word from Melbourne on whether that 1987 Ferrari actually had championship potential.
Look, I’ll admit I wasn't at the races live back in '87, but I lived and breathed it. If you ask me about 2010, people can claim I have no clue, but for 1987... man, oh man...
Basically, just like that guy who spends his life editing the American version of Wikipedia (yeah, yeah, I hear the sarcasm coming now), the consensus on 1987 is pretty much this:
Essentially, the single-seater proved itself to be competitive; if you set aside the eighth-place finish in Brazil and the fifteenth in Spain (both with Alboreto), the drivers never finished any lower than fourth. However, the number of retirements caused by mechanical failures actually outweighed the number of completed Grand Prix, leading to massive point losses due to sheer inconsistency and unreliability .
And honestly, if you want to fight me on it, I haven't seen a single driver win a championship while having more DNFs than actual finishes.
Like I already said, since the absolute best of the best was driving that Ferrari that year—with Gerhard Berger failing to finish 9 out of 16 races and Alboreto missing 10 out of 16—there is no way they take the title.
How?

Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 16 Electrical Ret
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 2 Engine Ret 28
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 71 Suspension Ret
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 7 Accident Ret
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 19 Turbo Ret 28
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 13 Differential Ret
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 5 Turbo Ret 28
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 62 Engine Ret 28
Ret 28 Gerhard Berger Ferrari 20 Turbo kako

How?

And despite grabbing two wins in 1987 (which, obviously, weren't delivered by Michelle), they ended up being ranked as the 13th worst Ferrari season ever, sitting just behind that total train wreck of a year in 2014:
http://www.formulapassion.it/2014/11...a-dimenticare/
And again, I didn't write that part myself.

They always pair these cars with flashy new drivers like they're some kind of miracle,
only for those guys to end up finishing mid-pack. Who else besides Joe brings up names like Alboreto, Johansson,
Arnoux, Tambay, or Capelli? Even Berger and Alesi weren't better than that.
The same cycle ran from 1980 through the late nineties, and it feels like we're seeing a repeat
this time around with 2010. We'll just have to wait and see how far this goes.

As long as the Italians are running the show.
Before Jean Todt and Ross Brawn stepped in to organize things, Ferrari was basically a disorganized mess. Especially under the first guy.
Once those two left, Ferrari went from a perfectly synchronized machine to a collection of amateurs.

And if Allison gets full freedom to work, we might be waiting a long time before we see any real results.
