Just toss them into a clear bubble and call it a day. 🙂

Kimi Räikkönen clocked a 1:23 straight out on those softs. That’s officially the fastest test time we've seen on that compound 🙏

Yeah, good luck when that temperature hits 140°F inside that bubble—that's gonna be a blast.

Do the math on the surface area hitting the sun versus the actual cockpit volume under there.

I mean, what’s actually the better play here: just letting the halo snap off and taking someone's head clean off, or actually coming up with a way to cool down the cockpit—assuming we can even make that work? There's plenty of tech out there today if you know where to look, though obviously, making it happen is going to be a massive headache. If we can pull off something similar in Endurance, then why the hell can't we do it here?

I mean, at this rate, they might as well just start installing roll bars in NASCAR races too....🤦

Timothy Castillo6 said:Is it better to just let the halo snap and take someone's head off—joke, obviously—or actually design some dome cooling? If it’s even doable or necessary, we have the tech now... It’s definitely an issue though. I can pull this off in IndyCar, so why not here?

Are you seriously out here calling for AC in Formula 1 cars?

LMP1 cars in IMSA have AC. They even have rules about minimum cockpit temps.

The real question is how much fuel everyone actually had left... we'll see the truth once we get to Melbourne.

Where on earth are you getting this misinformation?
Super softs for Kimi...

Meanwhile, Rosberg hit the same time on softs.

Plus, Rosberg did a 1:24.1 on mediums.

EDIT:
Wait, Twitter is telling a different story now...

What the hell was that actually?
Was that 1:23.009 on softs or supersofts? 😕

Where am I getting this from? Just listening to the live trackside commentary. It looks like Goodyear messed up the call because Kimi ran that lap on softs instead of the SS. They've corrected it now, though.

After that, he switched over to the SS, but even after clocking two killer sectors, he got caught in traffic and ended up with a 1:23.050.
Nico Rosberg put down a 1:24.2 on mediums during qualifying practice a few days ago, followed by a 1:23.0 on the softs. My guess? Just like last year, the delta between those two tire compounds for Mercedes is tighter than everyone else's.

Is this actually legit...
It feels a little weird that Kimi clocks a 1:23.009 on the softs and then jumps to a 1:22.785 on the ultrasofts 🤔
I don't see much logic in having an ultrasoft that's a full 0.200 faster per lap than the soft compound just to blow everyone away...

Because if that's the case, there’s zero point in even having a super soft, let alone an ultra soft...
What kind of kid designed this? Having two different tires softer than the soft, where each one only shaves off another 0.100 per lap 🤦

On the software side, Kimi managed to clock a 1:23... and honestly, it’s not even about whether Ferrari beat The Bear in terms of raw lap time—it’s more about how he actually pulled it off.

Do you think he's finally finding his rhythm?

So you're telling me a car with a Halo is actually faster than one without it. Great.

I’m struggling to find the logic in an ultrasoft being a full 0.200 seconds faster than the soft—that's a massive gap to bridge just to shave off a bit of time...

Because if that's really how it works, then there’s honestly no point in even having a super soft, let alone an ultrasoft...
What kind of logic is that—having two different tiers of rubber softer than the soft, yet each one only offers a tiny 0.100 per lap? 🤦

Maybe on a track like this, the ultrasoft doesn't actually matter much because it just falls apart too quickly—have you considered that possibility at all?

I'm 100% sure about this. Both Hulk and Max Verstappen barely made any progress—we're talking less than .2 seconds—on those US tires. Word is they completely fall off the pace by the third sector.

As for Kimi Räikkönen's 1:23.0 lap, I’m certain he was on the softs; every major news outlet reported it that way during the live coverage.

Just take a look at those lap times for F1 and STR on the ultrasoft tires. I honestly can't seem to get anywhere near the pace the Ferrari and The Bear are putting down.

jadeseal7 said:Maybe on a track like this, those ultrasofts just don't mean anything because they fall apart way too fast. Ever thought about that?

That’s not really why Sebastian Vettel ran a 7-lap stint on the ultrasoft during the last test.😉
So saying the tires are just disintegrating randomly doesn't make sense.

The only thing I don't know for sure is whether he set that fastest lap on that exact same set or if it was a different set of rubber.🤷

And what were the lap times looking like after that first flying lap?
