Hey there!
I need some help picking out a laptop. I'll try to keep this brief and follow the format... πŸ˜‰
0. Ideally, I'd like to pick it up in person in Washington, D.C., though online stores are fine too.
1. Screen size isn't a dealbreaker, but bigger is definitely better.
2. I'll be gaming on it, so I need a decent resolution lol
3. Matte or glossy screen, doesn't matter to me.
4. Mostly "standard stuff," but like I said, plenty of gaming too.
5. Doesn't matter if it comes with Windows or not.
6. No strong feelings one way or the other about specific brands.
7. Looking to stay under $1667, though I wouldn't mind spending a few hundred more if it actually makes a massive difference...
8. Warranty is always good to have, but it's not my top priority.
Thanks in advance for the help!! 😁

Look...

With the 17" models, it’s kind of a pain because you can't find anything with a decent GPU paired with a 1600x900 resolution; they all seem to jump straight to Full HD. Most of them just pack a GTX950m, which actually handles games pretty well at Full HD. Honestly, a more powerful card would be better, but my budget won't allow for that kind of upgrade.

It's also weird how those 15.6" laptops with 1366x768 resolutions and beefy GPUs have basically vanished from the market. They used to be the sweet spot for high-end gaming... 🀷

I need some help. Which of these three laptops should I grab? They look pretty similar to me, but maybe one stands out more than the others.
We're looking at getting a laptop from Best Buy for around $1833 to play games and stuff.πŸ™‚ If there's a cheaper option that actually performs better, feel free to let me know.πŸ™‚

The first and third options are Full HD resolution. Honestly, that 2GB RAM difference isn't a dealbreaker; whether you have 6GB or 8GB doesn't matter much here. 😬Also, neither comes with Windows pre-installed. While Full HD looks better, if your main goal is just gaming and you want this thing to actually handle newer titles decently for a while, the middle one with the 1366x768 resolution might be your best bet. Since all three laptops use the exact same graphics card, it absolutely shreds at that lower resolution and delivers great performance. Plus, that one actually includes Windows in the price.

The common thread with all of them is that they aren't $800β€”they're all closer to $900 and they're pricey. Check Best Buy; you'll find them much cheaper there, so you could probably pick up the last one for even less than $233, which is actually a significant saving. If you're eyeing that 60-month warranty, don't get it twisted: that isn't the manufacturer's warranty. Like I mentioned in the stickied thread you really should have read, Asus provides a 2-year manufacturer warranty, plus "Asus promotions" extra coverage if you register on their site. Everything else is just a local service center warranty or an insurance policy you sign for at checkout. It’s not a bad thing, but realize it’s not the factory warranty and the terms are different. You can even set that up yourself regardless of where you buy the laptop, and it costs about roughly $133 for those extra two years .

If you're looking to blow more cash, head back to Best Buy:

Or look at the excellent Asus N series with the aluminum chassis, IPS screen, and backlit keyboard:

Or an Acer:

I was thinking about buying there since my brother gets some kind of 5 or 10% discount, I guess. I'm not entirely sure.
Thanks for the reply, I'll think about what you said. πŸ˜‰
