Need motherboard recommendations for this build:
Intel Core i5-4460
GTX970
16GB DDR3
240GB SSD
Corsair CX 600 w super Flower Golden Green HX 450 w
likely using an Antec 302

Other specs aren't set yet 😁. Mostly gaming, maybe some light 3D rendering

Just grab whatever fits, like an ASUS board with an LGA 1150 socket. It’s pretty straightforward: you get what you pay for. If you want to splurge, you'll get more features, or if you prefer to save some cash, you can just pick up exactly what you need. Either way, you're looking at a price range between $90 and $400. There really isn't much to overthink here.😁

He doesn't need a high-end board for an Intel Core i5-4460. He could just pick up a basic Asrock B85M-DGS for $43 or an Asrock B85 Pro4 for $59 if he wants ATX. I'm not even sure if he's running 16GB as 4x4 or 2x8GB sticks.

Just whatever you do, don't grab the Corsair CX 600W 😛

Maybe stick with the Super Flower Golden Green HX 450W...

2x8GB

Super Flower Golden Green HX 450 W...

Is Corsair bad, or just that specific model? Used to hear people rave about Corsair...

It doesn't seem like much of a value, especially when you consider how little power this build actually pulls...

http://www.amazon.com/motherboard-details/050.306.1090

For that price point, you really can't beat it.

I don't want to clutter things up by starting a whole new thread, so I figured I'd just drop this here...
I'm sticking with the same processor, but someone suggested I look at this motherboard instead

Is it actually worth the premium? It’s looking like it costs nearly 2.5 times more than what was recommended earlier in this thread.

I was checking out http://www.asrock.com/mb/compare.asp...odel=B85M+Pro3 but honestly, half of these specs fly right over my head...
The reviews are glowing, sure, but that price tag is a massive jump.
I'm torn.

The reviews are good, but man, it's pricey..
I don't know..

Who gave you that recommendation, if you don't mind me asking? Was it maybe just some sales staff at Best Buy? 😬 The CPU is locked, so you can't overclock, which means you don't need to look past a B85 board. You could go H97, but even then, it doesn't make much sense. Basically, a board for $167 and you're all set. Something like THIS. Though realistically, you could even go with THIS and still have enough left over for a six-pack of beer 😬 You won't lose anything significant if you're running 1x8 GB RAM. 🙂

You don't necessarily need to grab a motherboard from $153, but man, that thing is total overkill

Thanks for the heads-up. This whole thing started because I'm setting up a rig for a place out in rural Montana where the power grid is basically held together by duct tape and prayers...
Then some guy jumps in acting like an expert, claiming this specific board has "premium capacitors" or whatever... go ahead, buy the cheap one if you want. But when the heavy snow hits and the local utility company starts doing their usual mid-winter electrical gymnastics, we'll see who's laughing six months from now. :-(

All you really need is a high-quality power supply, and nothing else will be at risk. Of course, a direct lightning strike is the one exception to that rule.

Whatever, I guess it makes more sense to just dump that money into a UPS instead of a new motherboard.

Regarding Ilija gromovnik, his best bet would be a Wi-Fi card paired with a sensitive 16A fuse.
(essentially, it's the most budget-friendly route)
