Battery indicator isn't showing when it's low

I’ve honestly tried every single battery setting configuration under the sun, but I’m still hitting a wall.
The little pop-up notification—you know, the one that warns you when the battery is getting critically low and tells you to find a charger ASAP—just won't show up for me. Instead, my laptop just dies unexpectedly, or if I'm lucky enough to catch it before that happens by constantly obsessively checking the percentage, I manage to plug it in just in time.

Does anyone have any bright ideas on what else I could try to get this working?

How long can you actually run it without being plugged in? Your battery is probably shot by now.

You could certainly run a battery diagnostic and try a full calibration—it might help—but honestly, there's a good chance the battery itself has just reached the end of its life.

You should check the notification icons in the Control Panel.

So, I guess the real question here is whether we're actually worried about the battery life itself, or if the real headache is just that annoying little notification bubble failing to pop up. If it's the latter, you can definitely tweak those settings—just like electricharbor30 mentioned earlier.
Plus, there are plenty of those nifty little battery status gadgets out there—you know, the kind you can pin to your desktop—which might honestly be the most elegant way to handle this.
