I am facing a specific issue that isn't necessarily about general moderation on the Movie board, so I thought I might open a new thread here instead. It concerns some posts I've reported—which I believe were justified—but even though the moderator has been active since then, there hasn't been any response. Since these are fairly recent entries, perhaps they just haven't gotten to them yet, but I suppose I have good reason to worry that they might not respond at all:

It involves these three posts where another user is being quite mocking and provocative, using various emojis and calling me Sheldon Cooper, which seems to be steering the discussion toward a personal level. I'm not entirely sure if that constitutes a direct violation of the rules, but personally, I don't really appreciate being called by names like that when we are simply discussing a movie:

The reason I feel the need to bring this situation forward immediately is that, regarding the movie itself, the moderator doesn't seem entirely impartial, or at least that's how it appears to me from this:

walkman800 said:👍 Sometimes, those of us who are just average people like to feel smart too. A movie like this arrives just at the right time.

silvergardener6 said:Well yeah, for those of us who liked the movie, we must be the average viewers that you all can feel superior to. northerncrane4, kudos to you for letting so many personal attacks slide here.

northerncrane4 said:I didn't say only average viewers love Interstellar, just that they do most often. Take a look for yourself, honestly. There are plenty of fans among that whole #ilovescience crowd. 😁

Oh, please—this topic is incredibly polarizing. There are two completely opposing sides here, and just like how one side gets worked up, the other does too. You're also getting agitated, summarizing things selectively while conveniently ignoring anyone who doesn't fit your narrative. And Sheldon Cooper is a character from a movie you're so desperately defending. I don't know. If the admins, mods, or any other moderators think they need to step in regarding the posts you linked, let them. I just fear there are just as many posts like that on the other side, so singling out these specific ones wouldn't be fair.

As for this whole "average" thing... It’s funny how you aren't reacting to the post I originally replied to—the one where the author decided the movie isn't for average viewers, yet claims to love it, essentially labeling themselves as superior and everyone else as just "average."

And, you know, nobody is actually going to report this post for "personal attacks"—nor will they report the one being referenced, where someone claims people without kids can't grasp the emotional depth of the movie "Interstellar."

Sheldon Cooper actually has nothing to do with this movie; he’s just a specific character from the Big Bang Theory. So, I feel like addressing me by those names is more of a personal provocation, especially when you include 😂. It doesn't really pertain to the discussion about the movie itself, but rather to the overall tone of the conversation, which I find a bit bothersome because the comment isn't aimed at the film or my arguments, but seems directed at me personally.

Regarding the point about average viewers, I don't think it's really about what you wrote about them. Instead, it feels more like your reaction to a comment that slightly belittles a group of viewers—people who, compared to walkman800, might actually make an average person feel quite intelligent. I suppose that also counts as trolling on a personal level, since the comment targets someone's intellect rather than focusing on the movie.

Right, my bad—then there's also Cooper in Interstellar. I guess I'll just delete these posts. Next time, maybe explain that kind of thing in the report; you don't exactly expect me to be watching The Big Bang Theory.

The issue with "average viewers" isn't what you wrote about them, but rather your reaction to a comment that mildly insults the group of viewers who make actual average people feel smart by comparison. That's also trolling on a personal level—because the comment attacks the person, not the movie.

Fish's comment was the one that targeted the person first, labeling everyone who doesn't like Interstellar as "average" compared to her. But, apparently, you haven't noticed that.

Fisher mentioned that the movie might not really land with the average viewer, almost as if they were trying to lecture us on how to think. I suppose, though, that it’s ultimately up to you to decide what you notice. 😁

Go ahead then—please, by all means—explain to me how Fisher wasn't being condescending when she brought up "average viewers."

northerncrane4 said:Could you please, if you don't mind, explain to me how I'm supposed to believe that Fisher wasn't being condescending when she brought up the average viewer.

I suppose she wasn't implying that one group is somehow foolish just so another group can feel more intelligent by comparison.

seriously, someone just give northerncrane4 a pass and move him over to the Movie subforum. he’s totally playing dumb by claiming he didn't know Sheldon Cooper was a TV character, especially since they never even mention Coop's name in Interstellar, so it could just as easily be Sheldon

man, top-tier trolling right there 🙏

silvergardener6 said:So, I’ve got this specific issue going on that isn't really about general moderation over on the Movie board, so I figured I'd just start a whole new thread here. It’s basically about some posts I flagged—which I honestly think were totally justified—but the mod has been active since then and hasn't done a thing. Since they happened pretty recently, maybe the mod just hasn't gotten around to it yet, but I have a nagging feeling they might never actually step in:

It’s about these three posts where this user keeps being super sarcastic and provocative, throwing out all these emojis and calling me Sheldon Cooper just to stir the pot and make things personal. I'm not even sure if that's a direct violation of the rules, but honestly, I don't want anyone calling me by random names while we're just trying to talk about some movie:

You've got a point there.
Intentionally calling someone that specific character over and over again like that is nothing more than straight-up trolling.
All three of those posts are definitely trash, and I see the mod actually went ahead and deleted them in the meantime.

When they actually start breaking the rules, just like any other random user on this board.
If you’ve got a specific example, then go ahead and file a report.
I know you already dropped some links earlier, but like I told you back then, don't just cherry-pick posts out of context; if you want to make a point, just post the actual direct links.

go back down to that thread, I dropped 4 new comments with some examples for you

and I'm pretty sure he just broke rule #15, acting all clueless about who Sheldon Cooper is. even if he didn't know who Sheldon was, he could've just Googled it or figured out the guy from Interstellar isn't named Sheldon

Honestly, I’m not even gonna sit here and try to play detective over whether he actually knew who Sheldon was or not.
A user complained about the mod not stepping in, then things got handled, some posts were wiped, and honestly, it was pretty obvious to me it was just basic trolling—whether they knew the deal with Sheldon or not—so I went ahead and handed out the warnings.

Regarding those specific posts you linked, I'll just drop my response over in that actual thread.

As for this appeal, yeah, it's been granted, and the warnings have been cleared.
