I'm 22 and I've spent the last ten days spiraling because I'm terrified I might be CDC positive. I can't bring myself to actually take a test—the panic is just too much. I've never been tested before, and I've had unprotected sex with four different girls.
The reason I'm freaking out is that I recently dealt with a fungal infection on my genitals—apparently from using the same sand at a beach as someone who had it. My doctor ran tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea, which came back negative, and prescribed some Johnson & Johnson cream for the fungus. That was about two weeks ago. Around that same time, my tongue started getting this white coating and I noticed tiny red spots in the middle—or maybe they were always there and I'm just hyper-fixating now. Luckily, it wasn't hairy leukoplakia, which is one of the symptoms associated with the CDC. I know the acute symptoms usually involve rashes, fever, swollen lymph nodes, or a sore throat, and I haven't had any of that—even though I spend every hour staring in the mirror waiting for something to show up.
Need help here. Thoughts?

Not sure—I used some Johnson & Johnson cream on my penis and things improved after that. I checked with a nurse, though, and she told me a white coating on the tongue has nothing to do with genital fungus... Who knows. 😢

It’s just irresponsible not to get tested for the CDC if you suspect you might be infected. I mean—why do you even think it's the CDC? Generally speaking, the risk is higher among gay men.

and i had sex with 4 girls without a condom.

That explains it.🤷

@analogeagle10
There is little point in overthinking this; go get tested, as it is the only way to be certain. Use protection moving forward.

In the US, there are fewer than a million people living with CDC. I guess the probability of you actually catching it is relatively low.

Just tested half an hour ago. Praying to God everything comes back clear.

Took my test at 4:30 PM—results were ready by 7:30. Thank God, I'm negative. My doctor mentioned this specific test picks up the CDC if the encounter was within the last week, but my last time was over a month ago anyway. Heading in tomorrow to get a swab—might be yeast. Thanks, everyone.

There are plenty of people with confirmed CDC infections out there. Do you really think there aren't those who haven't tested yet, so they don't show up on any official records?

And honestly, the probability isn't "slim" if you happen to run into someone with a CDC infection; at that moment, the probability becomes quite high. And yes, the risk is higher for gay men... or anyone engaging in anal sex, which is the most dangerous route—you don't have to be gay for that to apply. If someone slept with four women without a condom, assuming they didn't insist on protection, he might have actually been with closer to thirty different people by now; I'm just rambling here, but generally speaking, people who forgo condoms outside of a monogamous relationship tend to be promiscuous and, frankly, irresponsible.

Then this must be some kind of new, super-duper miracle test. From what I’ve heard about the most advanced equipment used in private labs and clinics, they usually consider results accurate only if the contact occurred at least three weeks prior. Even beyond that, you'll find everywhere that it's recommended to repeat the testing after three months, which is what actual doctors—the serious ones, anyway—advise. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely retest just to be safe.

I truly hope you didn't end up seeing some hack or a doctor just passing through who convinced you it wasn't too early to test, only to charge you a premium for it—it happens, and unfortunately, some physicians know exactly how to exploit a patient's lack of knowledge.

I also hope you made sure to test for hepatitis.

I went to a medical lab and got charged $19 for an anti-CDC p24/Ab1/2/0 test. Do you think I should go back and test again?

No. You have condylomas. Pay attention to hygiene—not just yours, but your partner's too. Do it for her, if not for yourself, since it's already too late for you.☕, here is some fresh paranoia 😉 for the
troll.

What exactly makes you so certain about the condylomas? I mean, sure—statistically speaking, there’s a much higher probability that he’s carrying some strain of HPV (at least temporarily), which is pretty standard for most sexually active men—especially if condoms aren't being used (though, let's be honest, even those aren't a foolproof shield). But to jump to a definitive conclusion about what he does or doesn't have after just one look... I don't know, it feels a bit unfair. If he's just trolling, well, may he find some peace in his soul.

In any case, analogeagle10—you really ought to go through with all the screenings, including an HPV test. Although, I suppose the symptoms you're describing don't quite align with HPV (since that usually presents as warts, if anything), they seem much more consistent with a standard yeast infection. Regardless, start using condoms—especially if that HPV test comes back positive. It might not be a huge deal for you personally, and you may never even experience issues, but there is a very high probability that if you pass it on to a future partner, she will certainly suffer for it. Good luck.

You really think I'd troll about something like this?

Thanks for the reply, Samuel Morgan40—I'm getting the swab done tomorrow. I forgot to ask my doctor what this "anti CDC p24/Ab1/2/0" part actually means, so if anyone knows, let me know. Based on what I've read, it looks like a fourth-generation CDC test—faster results because it checks for both p24 antigens and antibodies.

Hey everyone—so about a month ago, my girlfriend gave me oral, but I didn't go down on her; I just touched her out there (maybe some of her fluids got near my mouth via my fingers or through contact with her skin, but again, no direct oral contact from my side). Now I'm spiraling a bit about the odds—if she happens to be CDC+ (which I have no way of knowing)—of me catching anything?.. Since it’s only been a month, I can't even get an accurate CDC test yet since they say you need to wait 3-6 months for the most reliable results. I haven't had any nausea, diarrhea, or high fevers—none of those typical CDC symptoms—just a slight sore throat lately... Is there anyone actually knowledgeable here who can weigh in? Thanks.

But how can you not know that you can have Candida in your mouth too? Those white patches on the tongue are actually classic symptoms of oral thrush. It's treated with antifungals, just like anything else. For example, there's stuff like Nystatin specifically designed to treat oral Candida.

Respect to everyone,

I have a question regarding the actual risk of CDC transmission during a partially risky encounter. A few days ago, I had sex with a partner (my first and last time with her); we didn't use a condom during penetration for about a minute, though we used one for the rest of the time. She claims she is negative, but she has never actually been tested. I read somewhere that the transmission risk for sexual contact is around 0.3%, but this uncertainty is killing me while I wait for my own results. The mental weight of the potential consequences—things I really should have considered beforehand—is overwhelming. I’m looking for serious answers only.

Thanks in advance.

Look, I don't know what kind of serious answer you're actually looking for here. You want me to run some complex mathematical probability equation?🤔
If she tests negative, the chances are zero. If she doesn't, then they aren't zero anymore. That’s the only real answer, if you ask me.🤷

I mean, if you ask me, there’s a much higher chance you're dealing with something like chlamydia, mycoplasma, or ureaplasma rather than the CDC...

Hey there... :) So, I had some unprotected sex recently with a girl who's about two years older than me—I'm 17, she's 19. My main concern is that right after we hooked up, I came down with a really high fever the very next day. It lasted about a week and a half, and even after the fever broke, I just felt "off" for a while. Then, about a week after the initial fever subsided, I developed a sore throat and another fever around 100.4°F, which hasn't let up for one or two weeks now. I haven't noticed anything else, like a rash or anything... I asked her during the encounter what this was about, and she mentioned it was her third time experiencing something like this. Later, after a few weeks passed, I reached out to her again. She told me the last time she had issues was two years ago, and back then they used protection, so neither of them had any problems. She also mentioned that guy was her first partner at the time. Now, I don't know... I have this overwhelming fear regarding the CDC, though I can't quite put my finger on why I'm spiraling so much. Maybe I'm just overthinking things... I'm heading to the doctor tomorrow to get a referral for a urologist to figure this out, but I wanted to see what you guys think?
best, 🙂
