You sure get talkative when you need to defend yourself. You went on a whole rant (what, are you running for Congress?) just to dodge two simple questions:
What’s even the topic here? On both counts, you just hit me with a "less chatter, please!"
Would you give yourself a failing grade right about now?

I'm not putting words in your mouth. You literally just said yourself that you don't get how people don't like cheese. Well, newsflash, I don't get how some people *do* like it either. Get it?
And just so we're clear—so you don't trip over any more cheese metaphors—this isn't actually about cheese.
It's about the fact that you can't handle anyone having an opinion that differs from yours.

I doubt they care much about political correctness in North Korea.

Maybe try practicing some reading comprehension.
We aren't in North Korea where we're told what opinions to have.
Or are we?

You're a lousy moderator because you act like your way is the only way. Whether it's complaining about political talk or saying I'm talking too much without saying anything, you just immediately write a bunch of people off as idiots. You don't accept different perspectives...
Take a second to look in the mirror.

Prevention is always better, right?🙏

You really think otherwise?

I guess this one hits home for me. 🤣
Honestly, it bugs me how they issue warnings or even slap someone with a yellow card for every little thing. That’s not moderation; that’s just being a pain.
The diaspora subforum is insanely sterile and stiff. And yeah, sometimes people start clashing or insulting each other, and instead of Skattemus handing out actual penalties to those specific people, she just preemptively suffocates the whole thread.

Well, whether it hits home or not, here's the deal: for some stuff on the diaspora board, you don't even get cards—just warnings. And if you actually get a card, it's usually a yellow one that doesn't really mean anything significant.

Besides, real moderation isn't about throwing red cards around; it's about using warnings or the occasional yellow.
As for the "preemptive" part, the fact is Skattemus is in a different time zone than most of the people posting there, and she used to point that out herself. Now she's like La luna, though I'm not sure if she even reads it, let alone moderates it. So we're back to the same old story: most of the drama happens while she's asleep.

Anyway, what exactly are you expecting from a subforum like Diaspora? A chat room? Something like ŽK? Or maybe something like Law?

I mean, how do you actually envision a subforum working when it's filled with people from all walks of life, different worldviews, and totally different ideas on how a forum should run? And that's not a rhetorical question—I genuinely want to know how you see it. Maybe there's a suggestion that could be developed for the moderators to consider. Attacking people and throwing mud won't exactly solve anything... 🤷

Laura Rivera3 said:What are you even talking about on a thread about moderating the diaspora?!

Look, just go tell Sam then. Why drag me into this? If you didn't catch my drift—if people just wanted raw information, they'd use Google. They come here because they want to talk. But you seem like you're against any actual discussion. That's the problem.
And seriously, if you don't have anything specific to say about the diaspora, just leave me out of it.

I'll wait until a friend of mine who works in cryptography drops by; maybe then I'll figure out what the poet was trying to say... 🤷

Timothy Reyes12 said:What's even the point of this chat thread? You're posting "Less cats, please!" on both of them.

It’s usually that one button where it says "chat." ☕

Yeah, look, someone saying they hate cheese probably isn't out there looking for a lawyer. I only wanted to mention that because of how you judged them.
Look, people have every right to hate cheese. I know I do. Honestly? It’s gross. Just a stinky, nasty mess. Who actually likes it?
Go ahead. Feel free to tear me apart for that if you want.
You can tear someone apart just because they don't see eye to eye with you, but is that really the way to go? Is it worth it?
Why shouldn't someone living next to Native Americans be allowed to speak their mind about what they see?
Just because it has to be politically correct?
She’s just saying what most people already know anyway.

We aren't living in North Korea. We can actually have an opinion here.
Are we?
Give someone even a tiny bit of authority—even if it’s just moderating a forum—and you see their true colors immediately. Who they really are comes right out.
You managed to drive away all the old-timers. You actually claim most of the rest are just a bunch of idiots...
That's just sad.

Maybe try posting that kind of garbage about Romani people in a different section of the forum? Just call them drunk losers living off welfare and see how fast you get handled. Not to mention, you wouldn't fare much better—and I'm talking about getting more than just a slap on the wrist from the mods—if you started trashing Americans like that. Honestly, I’d be happy if all I got was a warning for trolling. This crowd constantly spits on the people of the country they actually live in. They're lucky they even get away with it.
The diaspora subforum is easily one of the most heavily moderated sections on this entire site... 🙄

Who exactly did she manage to drive away? And what’s actually missing from that subforum? 🤷

Wasn't this diaspora forum originally meant for those of us living abroad to actually talk about our lives overseas and what's happening back home? I didn't move to the States just to act as an information desk for people looking to emigrate, and I don't do that now either. I just miss having actual conversations and swapping perspectives with people whose daily reality looks different from mine.
The goal was to clear out the political extremists on both sides and leave room for those of us who just wanted to "talk." Instead, it feels like we're being told we aren't smart enough to even show up... you shouldn't have said that ☕

Look, whether it works or not is beside the point. The real issue is that for certain things over in the diaspora, people aren't getting red cards—they're just getting warnings. And even if you do get a card, it's just a yellow one, which doesn't actually affect anyone's standing or points at all...

I mean, true moderation isn't about throwing red cards left and right; it's about using warnings or those yellow cards to keep things under control.
As for prevention, the fact remains that Skattemus is in a completely different time zone than most of the people posting there, and she used to mention that herself. Now she's in the same boat as la Luna, though I'm not entirely sure if she even reads the posts, let alone moderates them. And I'm not being rhetorical here—I genuinely want to know how you picture it. Maybe there's an actual suggestion that could be fleshed out for the moderators to consider. I highly doubt that attacking people or throwing mud is going to achieve anything constructive...🤷

The diaspora section can't be ŽK even if it wanted to, and that’s not what I’m looking for. But I do expect that, since so many people are complaining, she might loosen up a bit with the warnings and just let people talk. As soon as there's even a hint that a discussion might branch out, she swoops in screaming "NO OFF-TOPIC" or "NO CHATTING." It's just... man...🤣
It’s become a joke at this point; someone writes something slightly off-topic, and suddenly Skattemus is ready to drop a card on them. 🤣
It doesn't matter that it's just a yellow card with no impact on points—it's the principle of the thing.
And then there are those social threads. Why even have the division? Why not just have one big chat? Either keep the specific threads or just make one shared chat for everyone.
I know there are some problematic groups over there—there definitely are. Sometimes I really wonder what's going through certain people's heads, but like I said, instead of dealing with them properly with actual red cards or even permanent bans for the real troublemakers, she just plays it safe with preventive warnings.
It feels like she’s either afraid to actually confront the difficult users, or she just doesn't know how. Meanwhile, the diaspora section just continues to wither away as this dull, dead sub-forum that nobody wants to visit, especially the more intelligent crowd...🤣🤣 :whatever, I guess she had to 😁

The fact that she lives in a different time zone isn't the users' problem. 🤷 I don't see what that has to do with anything. And what about la Luna? If that's the case, why is she even a moderator in the first place?

It’s become a joke; someone posts something slightly off-topic and suddenly Skattemus is ready to lay down the law. 🤣
Doesn't matter if it's just a yellow card and no points lost—it's the principle of it.

Yeah, but what's actually wrong with the warnings? I mean, would you rather she stay silent, stay silent, and then start handing out red cards once things really get out of hand? I think the warnings are just there to gently point out that you've stepped outside the scope of the thread..
As for the chat stuff, the explanation is below, so I won't write it twice...

Then why have separate threads for socializing? What's the point of splitting them up? Why isn't there just one big general chat? Or keep the specific threads and just have one massive shared chat for everyone.

Well, see... that's actually a pretty complicated issue. We tried having a joint chat a few times over the years, but it never ended well because the fighting was constant, almost like a brawl between Canada and Australia. People clearly can't handle joking around without clashing... And since folks from other topics weren't really involved, they just stayed quiet.. Basically, that whole project failed miserably a few times... 🤷

And regarding separate chats... Well, back when there was one giant topic for an entire country (like Canada or Australia), it was a mess because people would constantly jump in with questions that had been answered a million times already. It drove the veteran users crazy, and they either got ignored or trolled.
On top of that, the visibility was terrible. If you were looking for actual info, you had to dig through pages and pages of chatter to find anything useful. Since those threads would hit 200 or 300 pages, it was a huge waste of time...

Plus, even back then, you had multiple threads covering immigration, life, and jobs... Nothing has really changed fundamentally; we're just trying to keep this specific thread as chat-free as possible. It's to avoid that old situation where you had to wade through a mountain of fluff just to find a single piece of information...

I believe there are some problematic people in there, and there are. Sometimes I genuinely wonder what's wrong with certain people, but like I said, instead of dealing with them using heavy red cards—especially the real troublemakers who need permanent bans—she doesn't. She plays it safe with preventative warnings.
In reality, she's either afraid to confront the difficult ones, or she just doesn't know how. Meanwhile, the diaspora section continues to wither away as a boring, dead sub-forum that nobody wants to visit, especially the smart ones. 🤣😁I mean, I had to

Look, she’ll deal with them, but since this is just a small sub-forum, I don't think she wants to bury everyone in bans for no reason..
I know a few people have permanent access to this sub-forum and things are fine now, even if they keep cloning accounts to troll and cause trouble again..
So, overall, what you said about the troublemakers doesn't really hold up... most of the actual problems were handled, and the rest aren't bad enough to warrant a ban. Just give them a warning and call it a day. 🤷

And regarding the forum being boring or dead... well, that’s kind of on the users. I can't remember a single thread where people didn't start tearing each other apart pretty quickly—either because someone was too patriotic toward America, or because they were bashing the country they live in now, or arguing about how Americans, Southerners, or whatever group is being targeted... Honestly, after a while, every thread just goes south..🤷
People just don't know how to have a decent debate. If she starts handing out bans, everyone complains. If she stays hands-off and just uses warnings, they complain about that too. It feels like no matter what she does, she can't win... 🙄

The fact that she's in a different time zone isn't the users' problem. 🤷 I don't get why that matters. And what's the deal with la Luna? Why is she even a moderator then?

I'm just saying, it can be an issue..

As for la Luna, I'm not sure. Like she said, she hasn't had much time lately, which probably explains why she hasn't been active as a moderator recently (to be honest, I haven't seen her in months, so I don't know exactly what "recently" means to her)... She mentioned she'll be around more often, so hopefully things will settle down.. 🤷

driftingcanyon16 said:The diaspora can't be the moderation team even if they really wanted to—and honestly, I’m not asking them to be. But I do think that since everyone is already complaining so much, maybe they could just take it easy on the warnings for a second and actually let people have a conversation without constant interference. The moment there's even a hint that a discussion might stray a little bit, she swoops in out of nowhere screaming "NO OFF-TOPIC" or "NO CHAT." It’s just exhausting, man. 🤣

Yeah, that’s exactly what we're looking at here. I mean, I think I already mentioned this, but my gut feeling—my overall impression, anyway—is that we're basically looking at a crackdown on free speech.
And then there’s the whole issue of overreaching with labels—you know, like when people start slapping the 'hate speech' tag on basically everything. It feels like we're constantly overcomplicating things by labeling stuff that doesn't really fit the description. I guess it just makes everything more polarized than it needs to be.

It looks like my little theory about those "drunk drifters" is still being dragged around here—though I’m quoting them from memory since the original post was nuked. When they delete a thread like that, you lose all the context, and they just cherry-pick one line to make it look bad. It wasn't even an attempt at understanding what I actually meant. I was talking about specific people—you know, the types I see wandering around downtown all the time—not some sweeping generalization about an entire nation. But honestly, I guess it doesn't really matter who cares.
I mean, honestly, what is the point of banning free speech anyway? It feels like we're living in this weird contradiction where if I spot five drunk members of some extremist group out on the street, I'm apparently not allowed to call them out by name—yet they get to keep their identities. What’s even the purpose of having names at all if you can't use them to identify who people actually are? It just seems a bit nonsensical, I guess.

Honestly, I think it would be pretty helpful if, when someone drops a comment like mine during a debate, the moderators actually stepped in to broaden the conversation. It’d be nice if they jumped in to facilitate things—just to gauge whether a person is actually pushing hate speech or if they're just talking casually about something completely mundane that happens to sound a bit edgy. Just to add some perspective, I guess.
Maybe it’s worth actually checking this out—since it feels like this sub is mostly just populated by grease monkeys and locksmiths anyway—just to see how much we can actually put into words, or if we even have the capacity to express ourselves properly. 🙂

Look, even us illiterate types are allowed to hang around this forum, so I guess people should probably show us some respect—flaws and all—before jumping to conclusions or accusing us of things we don't even have the slightest clue what they mean.😉

It’s honestly kind of wild to just throw around hate speech accusations like that. In the real world—you know, how things actually work out here in the States—we’d probably both be standing in front of a judge right about now, and I’m pretty sure the settlement would be massive, with all that money landing right in my pocket. And honestly? I wouldn't even mind the satisfaction of winning.

I work in human rights protection—or at least, that’s the field I’m in. And because of that, I feel like I have the right to speak my mind and be blunt about what Americans and Mexicans and even Native Americans have turned into.

Whispering, gaslighting, and this constant effort to redefine reality—trying to convince us that Black isn't Black or White isn't White, or that intelligence is somehow being downgraded while we’re all just collectively labeled as autistic—it’s all led to this. I guess it’s worked, too. People are genuinely terrified to speak up about anything anymore, whether they're calling out an individual or a whole group. It’s created this atmosphere where everyone is just too scared to bite back.
Just listen to what that Australian Prime Minister was saying the other day. Honestly, you could probably charge her with hate speech if you tried.

If you want this diaspora subforum to be some kind of customer service desk for newbies—or just a place to endlessly debate the best way to make cabbage rolls—then maybe you should actually put that in the rules.
What I really want—and maybe this is just wishful thinking—is to be able to talk about whatever I feel like without feeling judged. Like, if I want to geek out over a recipe for homemade cabbage rolls, I should be able to find someone to nerd out with. Or if I want to vent about the daily political circus, great. I just want to have actual conversations about anything and everything, provided there’s someone actually willing to listen. But honestly? Around here, even bringing up a national referendum feels like walking into a minefield. It’s such a taboo subject that people won't even touch it—they’ve even gone so far as to draw these weird parallels with Canada just to avoid the real conversation.
You guys titled this thread "Socializing," which is fine, I guess—but people actually socialize by talking. If we’re going to do this properly, maybe you should just post a list of approved topics that we're allowed to discuss while we're hanging out, like:

I guess I'm just going to leave this here—sarma.
So, I was just wondering—does anyone actually know where to find some decent mortadella around here? I feel like every time I hit up a grocery store, it’s either overpriced deli meat that tastes like nothing or something that’s been sitting under a heat lamp way too long. I'm looking for the real deal, not that processed stuff you find at a gas station. Any leads?
Where can I find a shop that actually sells irons?
How many miles is it to Red Deer?
I wonder if we’re actually looking at some snow tonight... I guess we'll just have to wait and see, though my gut says probably not.
And what exactly is that white stuff sitting there in the middle of the green hills? I mean, I guess it’s just one of those things you see and wonder about—maybe it's just frost, or maybe it's something else entirely. It's hard to say, really.

There you have it. Once everything finally falls into place like this, it’ll all be crystal clear. I’m not going to lose my cool, and you aren't going to lose yours either—no drama here. We won't give a damn about any referendum regarding Native Americans, and as for hate speech? Well, maybe we can just redirect all that energy toward criticizing the quality of mortadella instead. 🙂

Absolutely phenomenal. Bravo! Way to go, genius! Bravo!
It’s not that it doesn't matter to people living outside America—they had the chance to vote, which means they have a hand in deciding the fate of everyone living there. And yet, somehow, that makes the topic off-limits.🙄

So I guess they don't get to talk about it within the diaspora either? Because having the right to vote in Canada is what—something they can technically do, but aren't allowed to actually discuss? Makes sense, I guess.

Honestly, your posts and your constant defending of this are just pathetic.

... you can say whatever you want, but they basically nuked the diaspora chat—completely tore it apart—and fired all the good storytellers, the MODERATORS.
We used to have some pretty wild stuff happening here, sometimes even going overboard, but we actually knew how to chill out and de-escalate things when they got heated.
It started with getting rid of the main chat, which was totally UNNECESSARY, because if that chat had any purpose at all, it was being the hub for the diaspora—especially considering
all the different time zones we deal with. Now we’ve just got these fragmented chats, and honestly, I don't even know what the point of them is. It feels like some "divide and conquer" strategy
where everything is split up by territory—like, hey, where's the chat for the EU? So congrats, dear moderators, you finally got the diaspora you wanted: a non-existent one, just so you wouldn't have to
deal with too much noise, especially since with your excessive deleting, there isn't anything meaningful left to talk about anyway.

Are you serious? Who exactly did they chase out? 🤷

A lot of great stuff happened here, and yeah, things definitely got carried away at times. But we always knew when to pull back, catch our breath, and smooth things over when they started getting messy.

Yeah, and that’s exactly why she was constantly in tears over some cardboard box—something everyone seems to conveniently forget now. ☕

They started shutting down the chat. Completely pointless. If there’s any actual value left in this place, it’s found within the diaspora. Why bother cutting it off?
Different time zones. Now we’ve got all these split chat rooms, and honestly? I have no idea what they're actually for. Seems like they're just organized by territory or something. Why bother?
Divide and conquer, right? We seriously need a dedicated chat for the EU. I guess you moderators finally got exactly what you wanted out of the diaspora—an empty room so nobody can talk too much.
Look, guys, with all this excessive deleting going on, there isn't anything coherent left to read here.

Exactly. That’s why they wiped the chat. Not for any of the reasons I mentioned above, either. ☕

It’s weird. Every single moderator—Skattemus, Strikalica, and Katrin—was against the chat. Why? I have to wonder... Is there some kind of Masonic conspiracy at play here? ☕

Laura Rivera3 said:Absolutely phenomenal. Bravo! You nailed it, man. Seriously, bravo!
It doesn't apply to people living abroad who actually had the chance to vote. They shouldn't be deciding the fate of those of us living here. So that topic's off-limits now? Fine.🙄

It’s enough to just point out that this topic has popped up on other subforums here before, and every single time, it was handled differently. So, how exactly would we tackle it over on the Diaspora board without just repeating what's already been covered elsewhere? 🤷

eighty-six times over: there won't be a chat room due to all the intense issues within the diaspora. maybe someday, somewhere, once...
but not anytime soon.
and I don't really get why this is such a tragedy for you all, especially since you've been directed to off-topic sections plenty of times where you can talk about whatever you want—as long as you stay within the forum rules 🤷 a bunch of people who want to chat but there isn't any room in the "home" subforums, though everything works just fine in off-topic. I guess I don't see why that's such an issue? It’s just constant chatting, then more chatting, then even more chatting.
No, THAT isn't what this forum is for! This isn't a group instant messaging service; it's a place for coherent discussion that isn't cluttered by internal chatter.

Yes, I realize many of you have been here since the forum started, and I suppose you miss those old days. But folks, the users have changed, interests have shifted, and things will likely NEVER be the way they used to be—so a chat topic isn't going to help much with that 🤷

Now, for some specifics. We've all talked it over and decided we need to loosen the reins a little 😬
There won't be warnings—instead, we'll go straight to deletions. We'll also use bans if someone goes too far. We're going to allow more leeway—but that doesn't mean that on a thread about, say, my credentials or the IELTS, you can pivot into a debate about what you had for dinner yesterday 😁 that's off-topic and it will be deleted. However, if a discussion veers off the main path but still has the potential to become something constructive, we might pull it out or merge it with an existing thread rather than stopping it entirely (for instance, instead of just talking about credential evaluation under an immigration thread, I started an old thread where we could all exchange experiences regarding various countries and procedures).

Please use the report buttons!!!!!!!
They aren't just there to let us know when someone is being rude to someone else 😬 but also for things like this! If you think a thread has gone off course but the discussion is actually high quality, just flag it so we can decide how to handle it 😉
Let's try to cooperate instead of acting like we're the "evil moderators."
😬
Once again, yes, I haven't been very present lately. The admins knew I was away, and my colleagues did too. I've admitted it. I've said I'm sorry. And I'll try to be around more often.

Ummm, hold on—let me go ask a psychic Milan exactly how the users would talk about this topic.

I mean, honestly, this is unbelievable. The topic exists on other subforums and they deal with it their own way, but apparently, it doesn't belong in the diaspora section because—ummm, ohhh—"how exactly are we going to approach it?" Like, how, how, and why, why, why. 🙄

Since the topic is supposedly "covered" in other parts of the forum, just go find it there. Well, you’re in the diaspora section anyway, so first off, you have plenty of time to read through the endless novels posted here; second, most of you don't actually care about what's happening back home in America; and third, maybe you shouldn't be expressing political opinions... oh wait, no, you can vote on the American Constitution, but heaven forbid you comment on actual events.

Because the diaspora section is a PDF specifically designed for what?

Sharing... recipes?

Look, please stop trying to play lawyer. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. 😁

For instance—just to use my own example—instead of us all writing about credential evaluation under a specific immigration thread, I actually started an old thread where we could all swap experiences regarding various countries and procedures.

Use the report buttons!!!!!!!
They aren't just there to tell us when someone is being rude to someone else; use them for stuff like this too! If you think a thread has gone off the rails but the conversation itself is actually good, flag it so we can decide how to handle it. 😉
Let's try to cooperate instead of acting like "evil moderators."
😬
Once again, yeah, I haven't been around much lately. The admins knew I was away, and my colleagues knew too. I admitted it. I'm saying I'm sorry, and I'll try to be more present.

Greetings, Peter Doyle2. Since I'm the one who kicked off this thread, it's only right that I thank you for the cooperation. 🙂
I'm hoping we see some positive changes. I just hope those changes aren't taken by certain individuals as a green light to start attacking people or acting foolishly.
I hope we can just have casual conversations in good spirits.
I hope we can brighten each other's mornings over a cup of coffee. Or maybe even over some stuffed cabbage rolls (which sounds like such an exotic dish in the Northern Hemisphere 😁).
And I hope those of us who tend to lose our tempers every once in a while won't be immediately targeted with bans. 😁

Before I go ahead and declare peace on earth, I’m really hoping someone actually steps up to give credit where it's due—specifically to a guy who has truly carried this subforum on his back, a man known as Satro Gospon.
On behalf of everyone who has wandered through here searching for a little bit of happiness, I want to say thanks for all the help.

Anyway, I’m hoping we can keep things relaxed, open, and actually friendly around here.

So, for now, I wish you all peace in the world. 😍

It’s pretty simple. You just click on Politics or whatever similar subforum you need, and there’s a thread for it. Just click it. You can even jump straight to the "last page."
I didn't realize you needed a psychic to navigate a forum.

Then again, maybe you do. Skattemus actually made some interesting points on the matter... 🤷

Anyway, if someone wanted to discuss it, they found the right thread and talked. Everyone else? They just kept getting warnings and cards for bringing it up in the wrong sections. 🤷

I didn't realize you needed a psychic or something just to navigate a basic forum.

Then again, maybe you do—I guess Skattemus made some interesting points regarding that matter... 🤷

Anyway, whoever was actually interested in the debate found the right thread and talked. Everyone else just ended up getting warnings or cards for bringing it up in subforums where it didn't belong... 🤷

Yeah, she did make some interesting points, that's true. And here you are, acting like her personal lawyer and confirming them. Given my limited intellectual capacity—not that I'm being modest—it would be incredibly difficult for me to navigate your precious "Politics" PDF. So instead, I chose the PDF where people like me gather—you know, the ones who are supposedly "limited" and constantly called out by you and whoever you're defending.

Like I said, it's really hard for me and people like me to wrap our heads around what your private little PDF group is actually for. Is it for talking about the diaspora, within the diaspora, or just daily life abroad? Because if it's the latter, we've already established that we weren't even aware of the referendum—we basically just voted blindly without having any clue what we were actually doing.
I put together a list of topics we *are* allowed to write about, so go ahead and weigh in.
Just explain it to us, will you? Since you've labeled us as less intelligent—implying we lack the capacity to understand—tell us what we're actually permitted to discuss on this PDF that suits you so perfectly you can't find a single flaw in it, even though you're working pro bono for it in your free time.

Look...
if you're venting because gas prices are insane, or there's a shortage of good homemade preserves, or some random troll is being a nuisance—that's fine. No big deal. 😁
But if you lose it and start throwing insults, trolling, using ad hominem attacks, or just generally being toxic toward other members... well, the ban hammer is a tool that won't be ignored. We aren't going to go easy on that.

If you’re losing your mind over gas prices, the shortage of good preserves, or that total mess of a white supremacist group attacking us again... well, honestly, just don't sweat it... 😁
Look, if you lose your cool and start diving into insults, trolling, or those cheap ad hominem attacks against other members here... just know that bans aren't just suggestions—they're tools we use without exception. We aren't going to let things slide once they cross that line...

Look, we both know where the line is when it comes to being offensive—but what do you do when you actually get flagged just for some dark humor...?

Emily Fowler52 said:po osamstosezdesetosmiput: A dedicated chat to tackle all those massive issues facing the diaspora? Yeah, I don't see that happening. Maybe one day, somewhere... but probably not anytime soon...
But lately... not really.

What kind of trouble are we talking about...?
Why can't the regular folks on this forum actually get access to the chat? Is it just because that one girl is being such a headache...

Emily Fowler52 said:I honestly don't get why everyone is making such a huge deal out of this—especially since you guys have been sent to the off-topic section more times than I can count, where you're totally free to chat about whatever you want (as long as you stay within the site rules, of course)... 🤷 There are tons of people out there who clearly want to chat, but you just can't find them in the local subforums where they actually belong... Places... They work perfectly fine for off-topic discussions—I don't get why everyone is making such a huge deal out of it. It’s just constant chatting, one conversation after another... it's really not that deep...
No, that’s really not what this forum is for! It isn't some group instant messaging service—it's meant to be a space for actual, meaningful discussion... somewhere free from all that constant internal chatter...

Why does everyone seem to have such a massive problem with the chat... honestly?
It’s the same reason I don't bother jumping into chats on any other subforum, or even hanging out on different boards for that matter... I just want to talk to people from the diaspora.

Emily Fowler52 said:Yeah, I get it—a lot of you guys have been around since this place first launched, and I know there’s a certain nostalgia for how things used to be... but look, people change, interests shift, and honestly? Things are never going to go back to exactly how they were once upon a time. Changing up a chat topic isn't really going to fix that reality... 🤷

So, here are some actual specifics. We all sat down together and decided that we really need to loosen the reins a little bit... 😬
There won't be any more formal warnings—instead, we’re moving straight to deletions. We’ll also start handing out bans if things go too far. We're going to allow more freedom, but that doesn't mean you can jump into a thread about visa processes or the IELTS exam and start debating what you had for dinner yesterday 😁—that's off-topic, and it will be removed. Now, if a discussion shifts toward a different subject that isn't directly tied to the title, but still has the potential to turn into something constructive, we’ll either pull it out or merge it with an existing thread rather than shutting it down entirely. For example, regarding visa stuff—instead of just talking about credential evaluation under a general immigration thread, I actually revived an old topic where we can all exchange experiences across different countries and various procedures.

Personally, I'm against deleting posts—I think that practice is problematic across all subforums. When conflicts arise, it usually just turns into a "he said, she said" situation. And honestly, I know all too well how those "he said, she said" arguments play out with the mods. Just leave the posts up, for the sake of the author, please...

Grace Diaz76 said:I never actually judged that girl for not liking cheese—rather, I simply expressed my confusion as to how someone could dislike it and seemingly lack an openness to trying new things. I certainly never claimed she was a bad person or that I couldn't stand her just because she hates cheese. She was the one who mentioned hating being in a country where everyone loves cheese, which, in my view, feels somewhat discriminatory. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and since users here judge one another daily, no one really starts massive debates about it on the main board.
Please, don't put words in my mouth.

First of all, I have absolutely no idea how I wandered into this subforum, but I am glad I did—I haven't been able to stop laughing at that bolded part for twenty minutes straight. 😂😂😂

So, it's "discriminatory" because someone mentioned hating being in a country where people love cheese? Bwahahahahahahah, this is political correctness taken to its absolute extreme. That would be like someone saying they hate living in America because of the population's obsession with football, and then accusing that person of discriminating against us Americans. hahahahahaha, please, give me a break. To me, both situations are perfectly understandable—especially if the conversation was something like "what annoys you about the country you live in."

And yes, I also hate cheese, and frankly, the entire dairy industry is quite repulsive. Not just because of the smell, but more importantly, because of how animals are treated in the production of those wretched cheeses. Animal welfare is far more important to me than anything else; I take a stand and refuse to support such an industry because I am horrified by the inhumane practices used by the dairy and meat industries for the sake of some smelly cheese. Does that make me a shallow, narrow-minded person who isn't open to new experiences? Is that still inconceivable to you? By your logic, I could accuse you of "discriminating" against us "non-cheese-eating" types. ☕

And yes, I am adding this so I don't get deleted for off-topic posting (I'm not entirely sure what the moderators are like in this section 🤣), but while I rarely visit the diaspora section anymore—since I don't really consider myself part of the diaspora these days—I do pop in from time to time to see what's happening. I have to admit, it feels empty and incredibly dull lately. I don't know who is to blame, but there is a noticeable difference compared to a year or two ago.
