🤦 Angel Eyes is more of a drama, while Shutter Island works as a great psychological thriller, though neither one really leans into horror elements.

Lol, I was actually thinking of Angel Heart from '87. 😵

Those chase scenes in the asylum in Shutter Island? Totally unsettling... definitely got some teeth to them. 👍

Yeah, we already touched on Angel Heart earlier in this thread, which fits the category, but Shutter Island is more of a pure psychological thriller wrapped in mystery.

If we were looking for the perfect asylum scene for this topic, it would look something like this:

An American blend of action, thriller, drama, mystery, and horror elements

Brotherhood of the Wolf
https://imdb.com/title/tt0237534/

Spoiler alert:
This movie is actually based on the real-life mystery of the beast from Gevaudan back in 18th-century France. That creature—which isn't even that famous outside of France—was very much real and supposedly took out over a hundred people in that region. They never caught it, and nobody ever truly figured out what kind of animal it was. People even thought it might be something supernatural, or maybe the devil himself? Pretty wild, right?

Antidote (2021)

A modern take on hell... just handing over other "patients" to avoid being torn apart oneself, I suppose. A solid 6.5/10. The ending carries a bit of a lesson. 😁

A modern-day version of hell... you basically throw other "patients" under the bus just to avoid being torn apart yourself—6.5/10. That ending really sticks with you, though. 😁[/I]

Budget
$750,000 (estimated)

It’s basically a modern-day version of hell... just toss the other "patients" to the wolves so you don't end up getting torn apart yourself. I'd give it a 6.5/10. At least the ending leaves you with something to chew on. 😁[/I]

Honestly? This was garbage. Don't waste your precious time. The core concept actually had some decent legs, but the execution was a total train wreck.
By the way, don't expect any actual horror or tension here—there isn't even a hint of a thriller or action to speak of.

He-he, I figured the usual crowd would jump down this movie's throat immediately, which is exactly why I posted it. 😁 It’s certainly not a masterpiece, but it isn't total garbage either. If you're looking for horror or thriller beats, there's plenty to go around: tongue pulling, leg sawing, constant injections, a corpse being cut with a circular saw, multiple hanging scenes (that opening one is quite a shocker), and even that "indexing" scene. It does lack a certain level of pacing, though the whole attempt at escaping the "prison" counts as action. Sure, you can tell it was made on a shoestring budget, but it's still miles ahead of that mess Last Night in Soho.
