That’s just what I was told, so I can't really give you a more specific answer than that. From what I can gather, though, it doesn't seem like the issue is actually with the forum itself.

That didn't do much for me when I caught that "police" virus, and it wasn't exactly comforting for my friend who got hit by it a few days later either. Look, we all knew why we were here. We know we picked up the virus, and honestly, we couldn't care less about pinpointing exactly who's to blame. Sorry, not sorry.

How can you be so certain you actually caught something here? Even the pros struggle to pinpoint an infection like that, so it's a bit strange hearing someone who isn't tech-savvy claim it with such certainty.
The link milkyway reported doesn't look suspicious to me. Either they misreported it, or their antivirus just had a glitch—which happens more often than people think.

So, I fired up my laptop that day, spent maybe two hours scrolling through Facebook, and hadn't touched any torrents in days. I opened Reddit, my whole system froze up, and then this "police notice" popped up on the screen. Look, I'm all for believing in coincidences, but why the hell did they put it on the blacklist that exact same day? 🍿

Seriously, clicking on a friend's name, typing "hey, what's up?" and hitting enter can actually be lethal for your PC if you do it for two hours straight 🧐

I guess I wonder, would it be really that much trouble to arrange for someone from the tech team to pop in here once in a while and actually talk directly to the community?
It feels like a pretty basic standard on almost every other forum I've been part of... and honestly, I won't even get into how some forums handle stuff, because let's just say their response times are absolute jokes.

Look, I honestly don't know how difficult that would be to pull off, but it’s definitely not my call to make. I totally agree with you, though—having that kind of direct line would make this place so much better and more engaging. All I can do is suggest it (which I am doing!), but ultimately, that decision lies with someone else on the management side.

Facebook used to be full of all kinds of sketchy stuff and bad links. It happens to everyone.
Of course, it helps if you're browsing with IE or running some ancient Flash plugin. The thing is, antivirus software flags everything under the sun. Just because an alert pops up doesn't mean there's an actual virus on the forum. As far as I recall, there was only one real issue, yet these warnings pop up like weeds after a rainstorm.
The point is, this isn't as black and white as everyone here is making it out to be.

Those ancient versions are running because they haven't upgraded from prehistoric XP to anything modern yet. Honestly, we can all agree—when an OS is over a decade old, using its built-in browser today is basically like using a glorified trash can—even if you've got the latest patches installed. Why people cling to XP is a whole different conversation, but it’s just wrong to bash someone by saying, "Oh, you use IE, that's why you got scammed on Facebook," or some other nonsense.
I've been hanging out on forums using IE without AdBlock for years and haven't fallen for a single thing—not that I'd ever tell anyone they're stupid just because they got tricked.
I only call people out when they're actually talking nonsense. 😬

And when a bunch of people write in over a short period saying they caught something or their PC started acting possessed right after visiting the forum—are those also just the people who were hanging out on Facebook, clicking on every single thing they saw, or the ones who think an "update" is something you eat? Or what? 🤷
Look, there are definitely people online who act like someone unprotected looking for trouble and then act surprised when they get sick, but this whole "it's your own fault" and "antivirus users are idiots" vibe is getting old.
In the last two or three years, we've definitely dealt with this ad crap at least four or five times. And at least two or three times in that span, the forum ended up on Google's blacklist because it was basically acting as a breeding ground for Trojans.

Look, there are definitely people online who act like someone driving without protection and then act shocked when they catch an STD, but I honestly can't deal with this "it's all your fault" or "you're just too clueless to use an antivirus" attitude. It's exhausting.
Over the last couple of years, we've dealt with this ad bullshit at least four or five times. In fact, two or three times during that stretch, the forum ended up on Google's blacklist because it was basically being treated like a Trojan horse breeding ground.

Honestly, my only regret is that you can't put admins—even the ones who aren't actually "adminning"—on a block list, because I really don't have the patience to read this kind of nonsense. Day in, day out. 🙄
I know where I was, I know exactly what I was doing, and I know precisely when I picked up the virus. It happened in a split second. But no, it's not the forum's fault. It's Facebook, which two other people in my house were using on their laptops at the time. They have the same antivirus I do, and they didn't catch a thing. 🥳

What browser are you running? Which OS? Is everything patched? What antivirus? And so on.
Saying you caught some "police virus" doesn't tell us much. Give us some details.
When someone starts making a scene about a virus, it would be nice to get actual details so we at least know what we're supposed to be complaining about. The joke is that modern antivirus software competes over who detects more junk, and then you end up like people here on OPu, complaining about a link that is perfectly safe. Or like when someone complained about a headbanging smiley just because it was hosted on a weird domain, rather than because the thing itself was actually dangerous.
