macOS was unable to format the USB drive... or something along those lines.

To give you some context, I'm working with a 32GB Corsair Flash Voyager 3.0.

A few days ago, I plugged it into my computer and received a prompt stating that the drive needed to be formatted. I went ahead and clicked format, but I just kept getting the error message mentioned in the title. I even tried using MiniTool Partition Wizard, but the software doesn't even recognize the drive is connected.

I also attempted to troubleshoot it on my Mac, but that didn't work either; the system won't detect it there either.

Has this drive finally given up the ghost, or is there still a chance I can salvage it?

Have you tried formatting it using a different file system? Maybe something like FAT32?

First off, it would need to recognize the drive before I could even begin formatting it...

macOS was throwing an error when I tried to format my USB drive—I actually thought it would recognize the device just fine, but once you hit that format button, the error pops up. That’s why I reached out to you in the first place.

When I plug this drive into my PC, the first thing that happens is a prompt asking me to format the USB... there are two options: format or cancel. If I select
format, it just throws that error message at me again... and after that, the computer won't recognize it at all. It doesn't show up in File Explorer, and I can't even find it using
MiniTool Partition Wizard... Interestingly, when I try it on my Mac, everything works perfectly fine without any issues.

so, you're telling me the formatting options window just won't pop up for you at all?

So, I’ve got these two 8GB Transcend flash drives that are driving me absolutely nuts. Here’s the deal: when I plug them into my computer, they show up in File Explorer and I can actually open them, but—get this—it’s like looking into a void. It’s as if they’re completely empty. I can’t even get them to format. The weirdest part? They work perfectly fine on a different PC—I can open them and do whatever I want. I even tested them on my own machine by booting up a live version of macOS or Linux, and they work flawlessly there; I can use them and format them without any drama. But the second I boot back into my regular macOS, we're right back to square one. I’m starting to wrap my head around the fact that it’s definitely macOS causing all this grief...

Exactly... It just throws an error immediately.
