Mark Cruz15 said:I managed to get it working by clicking the link, holding my finger down on the image, and selecting "open image in New Tab." That actually gives you the direct .gif link.

Look, buddy, if it doesn't work, it just won't work...
I tried hitting "open image in New Tab" and absolutely nothing happens. Like, zero. I copy the link and it’s the exact same useless one I started with.
It’s like a new tab doesn't even pop up... or maybe that's just how it feels because nothing changes.
Tried it on my phone and my tablet too, so it's definitely not a device issue.
I even went as far as holding the image before it even fully loads—you know, when all the GIFs are grouped together and you get more options—and I tried "open in New Tab" without specifying the image, but still... nothing.

It’s almost like a new tab doesn't even attempt to open, or maybe it's just my imagination, but it feels like I'm just getting kicked back out...
I’ve tried it on my phone and my tablet too, so we can rule out it being an issue with a specific device.

For me, the full URL pops up right in the address bar. I'm using Android and my browser is Bravo, though I doubt that's really the deciding factor since it should work on pretty much any browser.

Could someone walk me through how to actually set that up? Sometimes a quick GIF explains things way better than a wall of text! I used to be a pro at using them on Viber, but since the site layout changed, I'm totally lost. Where do I even go? 🤷

thanks!

Hey, I'm trying to set a GIF as my avatar, but it just won't work... : / /
Is that feature gone from the forums now or what?
[I see other people using GIFs here and there, though...] Does anyone actually know how to do this? Thanks. : ]
🍿
By the way, this is supposed to be a GIF [dimensions are 75x75...], but it won't accept the animation even when I try uploading the file directly...

I gave it a shot, and it works perfectly fine. The file ended up being slightly smaller than the required dimensions since they only had options that were either too small or way too large; I just used the larger one as a static image. I simply linked the GIF address directly instead of attempting a manual upload from my computer.

You’ve got strict limits on both the file size in kilobytes and the actual image dimensions, and you have to make sure they both hit the mark...

right here you can find GIFs in all sorts of dimensions—just click on one and you'll get the direct links—but unfortunately, they don't carry any 70x70 options 😁

So, my avatar is an animated GIF, 75x75 pixels, about 11 KB, which I uploaded directly from my desktop, and I suppose it has been running perfectly fine for over a decade now.

Sure, except it isn't actually animated.😉

Then what is it?

It’s hilarious how much the behavior differs when you use a GIF versus a standard image. On your profile, it just flickers like a broken traffic light in downtown Chicago, whereas the animation on Old Mantelov's avatar actually winks and moves with enough subtlety that I couldn't even catch the movement at first glance. You really have to stare at it for a while to actually see what's happening. 😁

LOL... honestly, you have to stare at mistyotter35's username for a while too... though the letters
(as if he’s some edgy guy, judging by his avatar and his handle 🤣).

I edited his original (the one from the forum) avatar while I was online; shortened the frame duration on the individual images (four total—two unique ones and two duplicates)

I have to give credit where it’s due regarding the editing of that GIF for educational purposes; it was actually quite helpful. 😁
And my thanks to mistyotter35 for providing the correction: 🙏nice work.

🙂 I suppose these are just a few snapshots, though I have attempted to arrange them chronologically so that everything feels somewhat "realistic."
