Jerry Gray5 said:So, you weren't exactly consistent when it came to being a hardcore supporter. Or maybe you're just one of those fans who knows how to bend the rules and play both sides whenever it suits them?

I wouldn't worry about that too much if I were you. 😉

And that doesn't count as being a true supporter?

How on earth would you know if I’ve stayed true to my word or not?! Don't you worry about that...
And besides, am I even an ultra?

Stop making reckless claims, because you've completely missed the mark in this debate, and frankly, I'm left here without any actual answers to my specific questions...

Brandon Wilson14 said:Look, you’re totally missing the point here. 🤦🤦 You need to look at which other clubs in the neighborhood are currently struggling just to move gear around the stands, how those teams ended up, and what that looks like in practice—no matter how much people suck up to their recent seasons (quoting: "among the top 5 in Europe"). It's funny how they love to distance themselves from those exact same issues by acting like they're all about agents, mobsters, and armored cars... basically, do you really want us to follow that same script?
Let’s be clear: the willingness to help or donate isn't the issue. It's the execution. Look at how Sampdoria handled things at home—the flag drives, the online marketing for the campaign, and the way it was managed.
I don't see any reason why we can't just keep doing things that way; anyone capable can step up.
The only real bottleneck is if nobody steps up to run it. 🤷

It’s not the system that’s broken; it’s the people. Anything is possible if you actually want it, but since people aren't stepping up, things end up messy. That’s a much larger conversation, though.
If we lack the competence or the integrity to pull this off, then we don't deserve to put on any massive displays anyway.
I honestly don't get why everyone seems so satisfied with lying to themselves.

Don't get ahead of yourself with these claims. You've completely lost the thread of this debate, and frankly, I'm still waiting for actual answers to my specific questions.

Look, kid, you just said the whole thing followed a path of least resistance.
Are you messing with me, or are you actually losing it?

Go ahead then—quote those "unanswered" questions for me.🙂

Are you messing with me or are you actually losing your mind?

Go ahead then, list those unanswered questions for me...🙂

Hold on, do you honestly think I’m going to air out all the gritty details and internal drama right here on a public forum? If you actually want an explanation, I can give it to you, but I’m not doing it in front of everyone.
I’m perfectly sane, so maybe dial it back if you actually want to have a civilized conversation.

This was one of the points you kept throwing at us, unless you’re just fine with settling for that lazy excuse of "we'll fix it later"...
How can you even stay in a group when you hate how they handle the money? If you think the cash coming in from club marketing is somehow "dirty" or unethical, then what kind of person are you, using that exact same money to fund banners and choreographies?...

I don't have any issues here, so tone it down if you want to have a civil conversation.

Was this one of those points you kept pushing, or are you just okay settling for the "we'll do it this way now, but change later" excuse?
How can you even participate in a group when you're fundamentally against how they're being funded? If you think money coming from club marketing is somehow "dirty," then what kind of logic are you using to justify using those exact same funds to pay for banners and choreographies?

Things happen when they happen. You don't know everything right out of the gate, and frankly, most of it isn't even your business.
As for that "we'll do it this way now, but change later" nonsense—give me a break. The contract terms simply don't allow for anything else!

Exactly, which is why there's no point in rushing things blindly.
Especially for people like you guys who have all the time in the world, because eventually, the experience will catch up and bring everything else along with it...

Jerry Gray5 said:As for this whole idea of "we'll do it one way now and change later" , well, damn it, the contract terms won't let us do anything else!

Especially for those of you with plenty of time ahead of you; experience will come naturally along with everything else life throws at you.

I wasn't talking about marketing—I was referring to stadium operations and funding.

Time is relative. You had it once, so what's the big deal?
I’m not talking about following some textbook rule here; I mean how things work in nature. We all start out as infants and grow throughout our lives—some people spend their whole lives missing certain things, others don't.
You brought up ideals, well, ideals don't care about timing.

Hold on a second. Are you really suggesting that marketing-based financing is the only valid way to go, and then you ask me this? 😕

Marketing isn't the only way to bring in cash, if that's what you're implying...

I’m not talking about following some textbook rules here, I’m talking about how life actually works. We all start out as babies and grow through the years, and some people spend their whole lives missing the point while others catch on...
You brought up ideals, well, ideals don't care about your schedule.

Hold on a second, so you’re telling me that a marketing-based funding model is the only right way to go, and then you have the nerve to ask me this? 😕

Let's just reset and start over.
You completely misread the room by coming at this discussion like you have to defend some "correct" way of thinking for a fan, but honestly, I’m looking at things pretty much the same way you are... I'm just asking you to explain certain facts that seem totally contradictory, because right now, this "deep thinking" feels forced, or maybe you just haven't figured out your own stance yet...

Fine, let's take it step by step.
I agree that you evolve throughout your life, changing your worldview, including this little subculture we're talking about here, the fan culture.

I never once said marketing was the only valid way to fund things; you jumped to that conclusion yourself, and you're wrong for doing it.
What I was trying to call you out on in my first reply was the fact that it's just not ethical—call it whatever you want—to trash the club's current marketing-driven funding model and then turn around and use the money generated from that exact same marketing to fund stuff for the stands...
Now we’re back to ideals and that idea that you’re constantly learning.
If you’re really trying to be an intellectual about this, you’ll admit when you've missed the mark. It isn't a sin to admit it.
And it's never too late to start over with a more honest perspective...

You walked into this argument on the wrong foot by acting like you had to defend what "correct" fan mentality looks like to me. I actually think much like you do; I’m just asking you to clear up some contradictions. Right now, it feels like this "ultra" mindset is being forced, or maybe you just haven't made up your mind yet.

Fair enough. Let's go through this point by point.
I agree that people evolve throughout their lives—their worldviews change, including this little micro-world of fan culture we're discussing right now.

I never claimed marketing was the *only* way to fund things; you jumped to that conclusion yourself, which is where you went wrong.
My actual point, which I brought up in my first reply, is about ethics. It’s one thing to criticize the club's current reliance on marketing revenue (and look, I have my own thoughts on marketing), but it’s another to bash that exact money source while simultaneously using those same funds to run terrace activities.
Now we’re back to ideals and the idea that there's always more to learn.
If you're truly committed to the ultra lifestyle, you should be able to admit when you're wrong. There's no shame in it.
It's never too late for a better starting point.

wearyraven25 said:As Rommel noted, there isn't a better way to fund things currently—well, technically there is, like passing the collection buckets in the stands, but that wouldn't even cover a round of drinks at a local pub...
Don't get me wrong on the rest.

That doesn't sound ambiguous to me at all.
I see what you're getting at. You're saying there's truth to it, but it's not quite that simple. I've edited my last post. If you look at the big picture, you'll see there isn't really anything to "confess," though to be honest, that's never been an issue.

And following your lead on how public debates work regarding certain topics, I won't dive into a deep debate about money right now—at least not while there's still space for it here. 😉

briskwolf39 said:The current marketing is an absolute joke.

I honestly think the marketing team knows what they're doing. They probably have the experience and the background for it. But man, people are complaining...

Look, those last two collections they dropped? Total flops. I'm convinced the price tag is the killer here. You have to realize most of their customers are teenagers, and with this recession, kids don't exactly have money burning a hole in their pockets for some expensive scarf or hat. Besides, if you see a kid wearing a hoodie that costs $100, there's a high chance it was swiped from someone else. My other issue is the value for the money. You have to be creative, sure, but designing fan gear isn't rocket science—just grab two colors that represent the Bad Boys, throw in a small logo, and call it a day. That old design with the wreath and shield was top tier.

Bottom line: just make two products that everyone can actually afford. Something everyone will wear to build some hype, instead of making it "prestigious" because nobody can afford the Bad Boys gear. I highly doubt the manufacturing costs for a T-shirt are actually high enough to justify these prices...
