I wanted to start a thread for those of us who absolutely adore this masterpiece. For me personally, it easily sits within my top 20 films of all time—so let's get into it. I want to hear which scene hits you the hardest and why, along with your general thoughts on the movie itself. In my view—and maybe it’s just a gut feeling—this film feels somewhat "underrated" in the media landscape. Now, don't get me wrong; I'm not saying the critics didn't love it—they did—but rather that it doesn't seem to get mentioned nearly as often as it deserves. While certain other heavy hitters from the last 30 years constantly dominate every single "greatest of all time" poll out there, this one seems to slip through the cracks, relatively forgotten by the mainstream conversation.

I’m giving the film a solid 9.5/10.



The acting is stellar, the story is even better, the direction is spot on, and the screenplay? Flawless. Honestly, I'm at a loss for words—I've lost track of how many times I've sat down to watch this.

Solid drama here, featuring a naked Julianna Moore 🙂

Oh, come on, people... seriously? You're really going to narrow an entire film down to just a few iconic clips? In my book, among all those legendary moments, nothing beats the sequence where the three of them try to sell detergent to that high as a kite dealer—the one where that guy keeps setting off firecrackers, and every single pop sends them jumping out of their skins because they're so keyed up about the deal going south. And that 70s soundtrack just keeps rolling in the background... God, I still lose it laughing at that scene every single time.

That scene is a total masterpiece 😂—everything about it is executed flawlessly (at least in my opinion). And honestly, that final stretch where Thomas Jane just snaps and decides he’s taking all the cash like some total burnout? That might actually be the best performance Thomas Jane has ever delivered. Just brilliant.

What a masterpiece of a scene 😂 everything about it is just pure perfection (at least in my book).

I mean, hats off to you, it truly is an incredible film... but honestly, I haven't sat down to watch it since its initial release, and all I can really picture is Moore’s pale skin and those freckles. Sadly, yeah, I guess I'm just that much of a Neanderthal. 🙂

Well, you need to go rewatch it immediately... specifically that scene I linked above where they're running for their lives, trying to crank up the car, and then the shotgun blast shatters the back window, the car rolls off on its own, and they’re still just sprinting away—hahahaha! Seriously, sometimes I wonder if the entire cast was high during that shoot, because the acting there is just MAESTRALNOST. And not just that one moment... the whole film holds up, but that specific beat absolutely killed me.

Classic scene. Total classic. My apologies, I'll try to behave. 😁

It's such a wild, fun ride 😍. I've seen it at least three times now... honestly, I could probably watch it again tomorrow. It captures that golden age of adult films perfectly—the characters, the costumes, the soundtrack—every single scene just hits right. I can't even decide who gave the better performance; there was clearly some incredible chemistry on set. Like I said, it’s a genius piece of filmmaking.

Ever since then, I've been a regular viewer of anything directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, specifically looking out for his work with John C. Reilly and Paul with Hoffman. 🤣

Fair enough, though "Jessie's Girl" came out in '81, so it still carries that late '70s vibe—which is why I said that—and the movie itself captures that exact transition into the eighties perfectly.

The wildest part had to be when the guy catches him with his wife—sex is going full tilt, everyone is gathered around watching, and he just asks her, "What the fuck are you doing?" and she actually responds with, "DON'T SHAME ME!" hahaha.🤣

By the end of the film, he just loses it and straight-up shoots him, haha.

But I absolutely lost it during the part where they're talking about film editing while the other guy is... well, he's busy with a woman right in the middle of the yard, and he can't focus for a second, eventually snapping, "Are you kidding me? Some guy is literally burying himself in a woman right now, are you freaking kidding me?"😂🤣😂

But then there’s that scene where Thomas just absolutely loses his mind right before the part I mentioned earlier:

Todd Parker: Shut up Dirk. I told you I got a plan. I got a very good plan.
Rahad Jackson: Are you kidding me, kitty?
Todd Parker: No, I'm not. I'm not kidding. I want whats in the safe. We want whats in the goddamn safe, in the goddamn master bedroom in the goddamn fucking floor safe, thats all.

🤣 🤣 YEEEEEAH!! haha, a MAESTRALNOST performance from everyone—it's just one of a kind. The atmosphere, the acting, the score... man.

Pretty sure that's the one movie where Wahlberg actually kills it...

I just sat through this movie again (probably my 20th time at this point), and I swear, I lose it every single time because of the sheer MAESTRALNOST of the whole thing. It is a freaking masterpiece, and honestly, I don't care what anyone else thinks—the critics have been wrong about this one too...

Seriously though, this film is criminally underrated by the general public. It’s top-tier stuff. Pure gold.

Honestly, it was a decent enough watch, but nothing to write home about, you know? It’s definitely sitting somewhere just a bit above your average flick, but it didn't exactly blow my mind or anything. I'd probably give it a solid 6/10.
