Essentially, we ought to allow enough time for both nature and the medication to take their course. From where I'm sitting, everything seems to point in that direction.

I've been dealing with low hemoglobin and iron levels for ages now, but my doctor just brushes it off, blaming it on my heavy periods and refusing to send me for any actual follow-up testing.
I’ve been taking Heferol every now and then, and things seem to improve slightly before they tank again—just a constant cycle. Lately, though, the side effects from the Heferol were getting so bad that I actually switched over to Kendural.
The blood work was done after I’d finished half a box of Heferol and ten days of Kendural as part of my pre-op screening, so there wasn't really a break in the medication before the labs were drawn. Before I started this therapy, my hemoglobin was sitting at 97.
Nicholas Myers suggested getting more tests done here, but since I'm facing cancer treatment and my doctor won't refer me out, I haven't been able to do anything except start these supplements.
I mean, sure, looking at the numbers, the hemoglobin seems fine under these circumstances, but it's the red blood cell count in the results that's really messing with my head.
I'm heading in for breast cancer surgery in a week, and honestly, I don't even know if I have the headspace to deal with all this right now. The only person who actually looked at the results was the anesthesiologist, who basically said everything looks good enough for surgery and didn't care about the rest; she told me I could stop the Kendural until after the procedure, but that was after we had already finished our consultation.

I've got an inguinal hernia surgery scheduled for December 15th.
My bloodwork and coagulation panels are from November 7th.
Do you think those results will still be valid for the surgery, or should I get everything redone right before the big day?
I really want to avoid showing up at the hospital only to find out they need more tests—would hate to have to head back home for unfinished business...

Suppose the systemic issue involves... the gut, joints, and so on. I won't go too deep into the details here, but I am running every possible test available. Even the specialists can't figure out what this is. I would be grateful if anyone could take a look at this and offer some insight:

HLA locus, serological equivalent, allele, allele.

Primary sample: whole blood
SER. EKV.
Class I / HLA-B B8 B50(21) *08 *50
Class II / HLA-DRB1 DR17(3) - *03 -
Class II / HLA-DQA1 *05 -
Class II / HLA-DQB1 DQ2 - *02 -
Notes:
- = possible homozygosity
Method:
Molecular typing via PCR-SSO using the Lifecodes HLA-B kit Lot 3012346 and the Lifecodes HLA-DRB1 kit.
Using the Lifecodes HLA-B kit Lot 3012606 and the Lifecodes HLA-DQA1/B1 SSO Typing Kit Lot 3012027. Results cross-referenced with the MatchIT DNA IMGT/HLA database 3.45.

Dear Madam,

There’s a predisposition for celiac disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, and potentially sarcoidosis—maybe even inflammatory bowel disease down the road.

Could someone take a look at this cytology smear? What would slit lymphocytes and low monocytes imply given his clinical history so far?
The atypical lymphocytes seem to have cleared from the picture for now.

Hello,

I don't like seeing slit lymphocytes on a report, though fortunately, we're talking about a very small percentage here. Still, I’d recommend a consultation with the hematologist managing the child to review this in person.

Hello,

You really ought to check in with the anesthesiology department at the hospital where you're having the procedure. In my experience, for instance, they usually don't require fresh labs if they were completed within four weeks; however, once you pass that window, they typically ask for new ones.

Paul Ramirez59 said:Update... unfortunately, I’m seeing some of our doctors on duty. Yesterday, we had an emergency CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis with contrast; everything looks fine—no abscesses or anything similar. However, CRP rose to 48. Yesterday, last night, they changed the antibiotics, though I'm not sure what's being administered now. Temp today peaked at 38.2°C, but it's still lingering. Please, I need some input....

I see no reason to change the antimicrobial therapy; the results point toward a viral illness.

The current labs indicate sideropenia. Given that the previous hemoglobin was 97 g/L, and considering the context of breast cancer, I still believe further investigation is necessary. I suggest showing that previous result of 97 g/L Hemoglobin to the oncologist.

Can someone please take a look at these X-rays of my left hand? They aren't officially back from the radiologist yet.
https://ibb.co/gMYM3C5
https://ibb.co/pW3TmBV
The reason I had them done is because of this pain and swelling in my thumb—it’s mostly hitting the MCP joint and the first phalanx. Can anyone actually see anything on these shots?

Hello,

Can anyone weigh in on these hormone levels? I'm a 40-year-old male, 182 cm, 72 kg—dealing with some issues regarding libido and anxiety...

About a month ago, I had my testosterone checked and it came back at 8.38.
I went back yesterday to run a full panel including other hormones, and here are the results:

(S) Estradiol 91 pmol/L.........................40 - 162
(S) Total Testosterone 9.7 nmol/L..........8.3 - 30.2
(S) 25-hydroxy vitamin D 56 nmol/L.......> 75
(S) Vitamin B12 408 pmol/L..................138 - 652

Should I be looking into further testing with an endocrinologist? My testosterone level is technically within the "normal" range now, but my doctor mentioned that for someone my age, it really ought to be closer to 14 or 15...

Depression, anxiety, disrupted sleep, a lack of consistent exercise... it’s all part of that cocktail that can impact sex hormones—including testosterone.

Having testosterone at the bottom edge of normal likely isn't the root cause of the libido issues—the genesis, judging by the circumstances, probably lies elsewhere (most likely one of those factors mentioned above).

Maria Fisher46 said:Hey there,

I honestly can't stand seeing split lymphocyte counts on a lab report, it just sets me off, you know? But hey, thank God it’s only a tiny fraction of the total count this time around. Still, if I were you, I’d definitely go grab a consultation with the hematologist who’s actually managing the diet and seeing everything play out in person. Better safe than sorry, right?

Thanks.
I finally reached out to my hematologist, but I still haven't heard back yet—honestly, I'm just crossing my fingers that they didn't see anything worth worrying about.
It’s finally time for another follow-up, but since we’ve been dealing with this nasty cold, we had to push the blood work back a few days. We’ll see if everything is settling down or if there’s still some other nonsense popping up on the labs.

Maria Fisher46 said:The current lab results are pointing straight to sideropenia, and honestly, given that previous hemoglobin was sitting at 97 g/L—and now we're looking at this through the lens of breast cancer—I still firmly believe you need to get this fully worked out. Why take any chances? I’d strongly suggest showing that old result where the hemoglobin was 97 g/L to your oncologist. It's just common sense at this point, right?

Thanks for this too.
So, I haven't really had anything to say until now because I just finally sat down with the oncologist today. Honestly, asking any questions about this whole situation felt like a total waste of breath; the entire consultation was centered around my breast issues, and when I tried to bring this up, the doctor basically brushed me off, acting like it had absolutely nothing to do with everything else. He actually had the nerve to suggest that my LOM could be the reason for any gastrointestinal bleeding and told me I should just stick with my hormone replacement therapy. Like, seriously? Is that all I get?
My primary doctor isn't showing any real interest in following up on this or actually digging into why I'm dealing with this anemia issue, so honestly, I'm at a total loss here. What am I even supposed to do besides just popping supplements all day?
So, I’ve been prescribed Tamoxifen for five years to deal with my breast cancer therapy, and honestly, I’m already bracing myself for the fallout. I’ve been doing some reading, and from what I can gather, this stuff can really mess with your red blood cell counts. Is it just me, or does it feel like every time you start a new treatment, you're basically just signing up for a whole new set of headaches? I'm fully expecting the next round of issues to roll in any minute now.

Does anyone have any advice on what else I should get checked out in the lab given everything going on? I’m definitely planning to ask about checking my Vitamin D levels, but I’m just sitting here wondering if I should be keeping an eye on anything else—you know, like specific things in my blood work, minerals, vitamins, or whatever else might be worth looking at. What am I missing here?

Hi there,
Could slightly elevated hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell counts point to something specific? My hematology doctor mentioned maybe doing some bloodletting if this happens again, since this is already the third time I've seen these results. For context, I have low ferritin levels and systolic hypertension.

I can't see the image you linked, but I'm here if you want to talk about it. Just let me know what's going on.

Hello,
I just got my new lab results back. I guess you think they're elevated now? 🤦 My ALT levels are still climbing. They’ve been high for a while now. I wonder if taking Emanera 40 and atenolol 50 long-term could actually cause liver damage? My triglycerides also went up by 0.1, though I guess that’s probably just due to my weight. I'm 19 years old, 194 cm, and weigh 96 kg.
I can't see any images or links here, unfortunately. If you meant to share something, maybe try again? I guess I just missed it.

Greetings, could someone take a look at my blood work and tell me if I should be losing sleep over this elevated cholesterol? I'm also curious about what the overall picture looks like regarding my blood counts.

For context, I’m 28 years old, standing 185cm tall, and weighing in at 75kg. I don't smoke, and I don't touch alcohol.
The tests were ordered during a routine follow-up with my cardiologist; I deal with supraventricular tachycardia (AVNRT), and I've actually undergone ablation three times now—unsuccessfully, all three of them. These days, when an episode hits, I manage to settle myself down within about five minutes, so I've become somewhat accustomed to the rhythm of it all. My blood pressure stays steady at a solid 120/80. As far as medication goes, I only take ByolCor once a day at 1.25 mg in the morning. Structurally speaking, my heart is perfectly healthy.

Hey there,
Can anyone help me make sense of these results? I just did an overnight 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test. Had my blood drawn around 9 AM. My cortisol level after the dexamethasone came back at < 27.6 nmol/L. Is that considered normal? Thanks!

Sir,

Analyzing labs is impossible without knowing the context—why were they ordered in the first place?

I just got new results back. Now the urates are elevated? 🤦 ALT continues to rise. It's been high for quite some time. Is it possible that long-term use of Nexium 40 and Atenolol 50 could cause liver damage? Triglycerides also went up by 0.1, though I'll likely attribute that to weight. I'm 96 kg, 194 cm tall, and 19 years old.

Sir,

One needs to rule out or confirm Gaisbock syndrome, given the combination of polycythemia, hypertension, and obesity. These factors align with your current findings, though Polycythemia Vera must be ruled out as well. Liver markers and urate levels can also be linked to excess body weight.

Any advice on what else should be checked via lab work given the situation? I definitely plan on asking about Vitamin D levels, but I'm not sure if there's anything else I should watch for regarding my CBC, minerals, vitamins, or similar.

I still suggest getting three occult blood stool tests. Regarding the Tamoxifen, you should monitor KKS, liver function, calcium, coagulation profiles, and lipid panels. Additionally, get a bone density scan, an eye exam, and a gynecological exam.
