Thanks, everyone. Phew, I've been dealing with this for about a month now... Nothing much happening yet, but I'm heading to the doctor tomorrow to get a professional opinion. It looks like almost everything has cleared up. It actually started fading about two and a half weeks ago—though that doesn't mean much since I'm still not sure if I was supposed to stay out of the sun or what. I really don't want to be dealing with this exact same thing next year. Could you guys please let me know... Is it even possible to perform a biopsy if the area has already healed?

Hey everyone!
Does anyone know where I can go in Washington, D.C. to get my B12 and folic acid levels checked via a serum test?
Also, what’s the actual process like—is it just a standard blood draw or something more involved?
My doctor wasn't really helpful; she just mentioned it's something we could get done somewhere in NYC.🤦
I'm going to try calling Holy Spirit, but I'm not sure about any other places.

Blood Work.

You can find all the specifics on this medical biochemistry lab's website:

I'd suggest checking in with your local clinic's lab, though honestly, any hospital lab should be able to handle it for you.

The local clinics here aren't doing them, not even the county hospital or the Holy Spirit one. It took about a million calls and being transferred around endlessly before I finally found out they actually do it at the Vineyard hospital, so we'll just head over there to get it done.
Thanks for the reply.😉

I already saw my OBGYN and everything looks fine, plus I’ll be heading back soon to double-check my thyroid levels. Just one more thing—since my iron is sitting at 12.8, is it gonna do any damage if I take Nature's Bounty liquid iron every single day?

My bad for the late response! It won't hurt you to take that supplement.

Good evening...

I am 29 years old and currently undergoing various diagnostic tests following several unsuccessful attempts to conceive. Among other things, I have been looking into my hormone levels... Homocysteine... an interesting metric to monitor, though perhaps more taxing than most care to admit—it really is quite a nuanced subject when one begins looking at the underlying biochemistry....

For the most part, the result came in at 6.9 umol/L—well within the standard range of 4 to 12 umol/L...

I see that it is contained within the reference value, but what I am actually interested in is this...

I wasn't aware that the testing required fasting—specifically, I had a cup of Acidosalus yogurt about an hour before my blood was drawn... and now I’m wondering how much that might have skewed the results. I know homocysteine levels are tied to folate and B12 concentrations in the body, and since that yogurt contains those... I'm just not sure to what extent it could have impacted my current homocysteine reading.

This might seem like a somewhat foolish question—but I’ll offer my thanks in advance for any insight you can provide...

Basically, my result came back at 6.9 umol/L (ref range 4-12 umol/L)

I see that it's well within the normal range, but here’s what’s actually bothering me:

I had no idea this test needed to be done on an empty stomach—I actually had a cup of Acidophilus yogurt about an hour before they drew my blood, and now I'm spiraling wondering how much that messed with the results. I know homocysteine is linked to folate and B12 levels in the body, and that yogurt definitely has those... though I don't know by how much. Could that have skewed my current level significantly?

Probably a stupid question, but thanks in advance for any insight,

A.

That looks like a perfectly normal result to me.

Bloodwork results
EBV VCA IgM positive 56 (negative is less than 20)
EBV VCA IgG positive 98 (negative is less than 20)
EBV EA IgG positive 99 (negative is less than 20)
EBNA IgG negative
CMV IgM positive
CMV IgG positive 0.9 (negative is less than 0.4)

Suspected mononucleosis... maybe 25g...

So, what does all of this actually mean for me?

so what does this mean?

Hi there,

Based on these markers, yes—this looks like infectious mononucleosis.

Best regards. 🙂

I really appreciate such a quick response. I guess I was wondering, looking at these specific findings, does it seem like it's strictly mono, or is there any reason to suspect something else might be going on too?

nimbleharbor65 said:Thanks for the quick reply. Just wondering—based on these results, can we confirm it's just mononucleosis, or is there suspicion of something else lurking?

Essentially, these labs show how your body is reacting to two specific viruses that cause infectious mononucleosis syndrome: the Epstein-Barr virus and cytomegalovirus.

These markers act as a sort of timeline, helping us distinguish between a recent infection and one from the past. It’s a bit like checking if a fire is currently burning or if you're just looking at the ashes; most people encounter EBV by the time they reach adulthood, and many deal with CMV as well. We need to determine if this was a recent encounter or something long settled.

In your case, the data points toward a fresh infection.

The whole point of looking at these particular parameters is to determine whether we are dealing with a brand-new infection or one that’s been lying dormant for a while. In truth, almost everyone encounters the EBV virus before they reach adulthood, and a huge number of people run into CMV as well, so the real task here is distinguishing whether that encounter was recent or happened a long time ago.

In your case, the data suggests this is a fresh infection.

Thanks so much for the reply and for walking me through that explanation. 🙂

Dear doctors,

I am looking for an interpretation of these results:
Microbiological test results / sample: cervical swab / testing: aerobic bacteriology
Physiological flora

and

Microbiological test results / sample: urine / testing: aerobic bacteriology
Bacterial count: 10 (per second) CFU/ml
Physiological flora

Typically, my results have always come back sterile—which is why I am feeling a bit anxious... It is worth noting, however, that I used a vaginal probiotic about two or three days prior to the tests...

Thank you in advance,
A

So, I finally got my thyroid hormone labs back today, even though I've been staying on top of my meds
TSH-0.03
T3-0.9
T4-62

Can anyone please help me make sense of this? Like, what is actually going on here and why are the numbers looking like this?

Physiological flora.

I think you might have cut off there! You only sent "i". What was it you were trying to say? I'm ready when you are.

I just got my lab results back—specifically the microbiology report from my urine sample—and we’re looking at the aerobic bacterial culture. Here's the breakdown.
Bacterial count: 10 CFU/ml (on the second one).
The concept of physiological flora—the very foundation of our biological ecosystem—is something people constantly overlook, and frankly, it drives me insane. We talk about health like it’s just some checklist of vitamins and minerals, but we completely ignore the massive, complex community of microorganisms living within us that actually makes life possible. It isn't just "there"; it is an active, breathing part of our physiology. If you aren't respecting that internal balance, you're fighting a losing battle.

I’ve always had sterile results in the past, so I have to admit, I’m feeling a little anxious about this one. Just as a heads-up—I did use a vaginal probiotic two or three days before the test.

Thanks in advance!
A

Get these results organized.

TSH at 0.03? Are you kidding me? That is absolutely bottomed out. We aren't even talking about "low" anymore; we are deep in the basement. If you're feeling like your heart is doing a drum solo in your chest or you can't stop sweating, there's your answer. This isn't just a minor fluctuation—it's a massive red flag that your thyroid is running wild. Get to an endocrinologist immediately. Don't sit around waiting for it to fix itself; it won't.
T3-0.9
I don't know what you're trying to get at with this one, but let's be clear: if we're talking about T4-62, we need to stop dancing around the issue and look at the actual data. I've seen enough people misinterpret these specific markers to last a lifetime. You can't just glance at a lab report and think you have the full picture. It requires precision, focus, and—most importantly—an understanding of how these levels interact within the broader metabolic framework. Stop guessing. Get the facts straight.

Take a look at the very first post.

Hi everyone,

Could someone please help me make sense of this thyroid ultrasound while we wait on the rest of the lab results?
Patient is a 35-year-old male.
Left lobe: 31x36x67mm
Right lobe: 10x16x44mm
The entire left lobe is taken up by an inhomogeneous nodule, which shows some cystic degeneration and extends toward the retrosternal area.
The right lobe shows a homogeneous echo distribution.

Thanks in advance.

Should I be worried if my iron is sitting right at 30 (ref. 9-30), especially since my white blood cell count is hovering near the top end of the range—still technically normal at 9.3 (ref. 3.4-9.7)? Is it worth getting my iron levels checked again, or should I just leave it alone? Thanks. 🙂

So, what did the rest of your labs look like? What was the actual reason you had blood drawn in the first place?

I honestly don't know how to make it clearer in the title that you need to actually read that damn first post. 😬 I wrote it that way specifically to give the doctors responding here a full picture, which helps you get much more accurate answers. If you just drop one random number without context, nobody is going to tell you anything useful other than whether it’s within the reference range or not. It's common sense.
