1) Being a godparent has nothing to do with having kids; it’s about which people actually fit the parents' vibe.

2) Women's corner

3) Gastronom

4) Clothing, footwear, and sporting goods outlets

Threads also get shut down if they violate site rules or subforum guidelines, if moderators need a moment to scrub out spam,
or if there's actual evidence of illegal activity being posted, rather than just some random reader making accusations...

Discussions about baptisms don't belong here in the Lounge; they belong in the Religion section. Let's move this over there.

When it comes to parents looking to have their little ones baptized, they’ll probably find the most practical help from other parents who have already been through the whole process themselves. To me, it makes perfect sense to just keep those types of discussions over on the Parents and Kids PDF.

Or, you know, just ask a priest who’s actually trained for it.

...Alex Thomas27, don't go getting worked up on me for no reason, but I have to ask, what would you suggest
as a better spot for this thread about smashing cars or sinking boats..?
...I mean, there's definitely no room for that kind of chaos in the religion section...

Fair point. Especially if it's a priest blessing a boat rather than just a bunch of guys on a bender.

Alex Thomas27 said:Exactly. It’s a lot more meaningful if a priest actually blesses the ship, rather than just some drunk guys doing it.

I mean, even if they’re obsessing over which brand of champagne to use for the blessing, or worrying about which pier to dock at—all those technical details that have absolutely nothing to do with religion—it still doesn't ring a bell with me. I can't really wrap my head around it since I don't exactly have a massive vessel waiting for a christening! 😁

Well, if they want champagne, tell them to check out the Gastronom section. If they're worried about docks, they can head over to Tourism, Recreation, or maybe just look at some coastal real estate listings.

What kind of technical questions about a christening have absolutely nothing to do with religion?

Alex Thomas27 said:Well, if they want to talk about fine dining and champagne, they can head over to Gastronom, but if they're looking for info on tourism or outdoor recreation, they should stick to those specific boards.

If we followed that logic, we’d end up with seven hundred different threads for every single subject instead of just one—though, granted, some topics really do need their own space since different people bring such unique perspectives from their own experiences. We could have a thread where everyone who’s been through it or has any expertise could chime in. But then, every single one of those threads would probably only get thirteen posts over the span of nine years! At the end of the day, this is a community forum meant for discussion, not an encyclopedia.

Alex Thomas27 said:What kind of technical questions regarding a baptism actually have nothing to do with religion?

The ones I mentioned, along with plenty of others, are already being discussed right there in the main thread.

No. I'm pretty sure there's already a dedicated thread on Gastronom about champagne, whether it's about restaurants or cakes.
The women's corner already has a thread for gift ideas.
And I bet you'll find a thread about clothing somewhere on RiD.
On the women's corner, starting a group thread about godparents isn't an issue. Honestly, it probably already exists. But it's also fine if questions about godparents end up in the baptism thread under the Religion section.

rustydrifter10 said:The one I mentioned.

Champagne, dining out, clothes—none of that really has anything to do with religion or the baptism itself. It's more about where parents want to grab lunch afterward, what they want to drink, or what they're planning to wear. It doesn't even have to be tied to the ceremony. Or how they want their kid to look. Which, again, doesn't necessarily have to be tied to the baptism either.

Baptism basically has two sides. There’s the theological part—the stuff you can find endless threads about on the Religion subforum, depending on whether you're looking at it through a Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, or atheist lens...

Then there’s the folklore side. That’s all the non-church stuff that actually eats up most of a parent's time. I mean, the actual ceremony lasts maybe thirty minutes, but the logistics? That takes days. Picking godparents, buying gifts, outfits, deciding who gets an invite and who doesn't... none of that has anything to do with the church or theology. As far as the church is concerned, parents and the godparent show up, they leave, and that's that.

Your ridiculous demand—which clearly comes from some deep-seated resentment toward baptisms—is just absurd. It’s like asking to move wedding topics from the Relationships subforum over to Religion, or moving questions about food and clothing over to Gastronom or fashion.

The way you're trying to fight for "justice" is pretty sneaky, which says a lot about you. You start by indirectly targeting Muslims and Jews, and then you pivot to attacking Christians, all because of your own aggressive narrow-mindedness. It isn't just potential religious intolerance; it's a sure thing.

Your absurdly obvious demand is clearly fueled by some weird obsession with religious baptisms. It’s like you’re asking to move wedding threads from a "Life as a Couple" subforum over to the Religion board, or worse, moving food and outfit questions over to the gastronomy and fashion sections.

Look, a wedding doesn't have to be tied to religion. You can just have a civil ceremony.

There’s no need to move those threads because a wedding isn't strictly a religious thing—it's a party. At its core, a wedding is more about the celebration than the ritual.

But a baptism? That's different. That's a religious rite, plain and simple.
A dinner at a restaurant with some champagne is just a celebration, no different from celebrating a new house, a promotion, or a birthday.

A dinner at a restaurant with champagne is just a celebration, same as moving into a new house, landing a job, or celebrating a birthday.

Look, since you clearly have an issue with religion, I guess it's obvious you don't really get whether they're the same or not. I'm telling you, a housewarming party isn't the same vibe as a baptism.

Most weddings happen in a church, and people ask there about decorations and stuff... I don't see how that affects the religion itself. You think believers aren't allowed to ask questions in public? Should we just ghettoize them or something?

Besides, if some Muslim woman asked what they bought or how they handled things, I bet they'd just let her be and maybe even connect it to something else later. If you were Muslim or Jewish and wanted to know what they got for a circumcision ceremony, go ahead and ask. Maybe you'd even get some ideas for a baptism.

From your post, it's pretty clear you don't care about circumcisions or anything else—you just want to shut down a thread where parents are helping each other plan a day, purely because that day has a religious character. That feels like discrimination, or just being intolerant on your part.

If the question was about how they organized a baby's birthday, I assume you wouldn't be trying to kill the thread... It's pretty obvious this isn't about religion, it's about logistics and common sense questions that priests—or most regular folks—don't really know much about, but parents who just went through it do. But you're just acting like a provocateur, riding some wave of self-righteous anger over normal life events for an average American family. And with that anger, you want to wreck a perfectly logical place to find info, just so the words "baptism," "priest," or "church" don't accidentally pop up. You're complaining about potential discrimination by showing your own religious intolerance. Real classy.

Most weddings happen in churches anyway, where people ask about decor and all that... I don't see how that impacts religion. Do you honestly think believers aren't allowed to ask questions like the rest of the population? Are we supposed to ghettoize them?

People from all sorts of different religious backgrounds get married.

Parents only baptize their kids if they actually want them to be part of the faith. Either that, or they just want their child to belong to a specific denomination.

So what, people getting married in a church should just switch over to Religion?

Maybe they should just scrap the whole wedding topic entirely, just so they don't have to deal with the backlash from folks who live together without the ceremony. I guess.

No. Because this is a part of this (sub)forum. People from all walks of life get married here—Muslims, Jews, Buddhists... everyone.
It would be straight-up discriminatory if Muslims or Jews were forced to hang out in the Religion section just to learn about Islamic weddings or other traditions instead of hearing about Catholic ones.

Only Christians baptize their kids. That's that.

That’s why that topic doesn't belong on RiD.

Alex Thomas27 said:It would be discrimination if Muslims and Jews had to go to the Religion forum just to learn about Islamic wedding customs or other traditions from Catholics.

So you're saying only Christians belong on Religion, while everyone else goes to mosques, synagogues, etc., on different subforums.

Only people of a certain faith—Christians—baptize their kids.

That's why this topic doesn't belong on RiD.

Look, plenty of parents baptize their kids, and since most people aren't religious experts, that's where the discussion belongs. I don't see what the big deal is about Christians baptizing children.

Are Christians only allowed to talk in places specifically marked for them? Is that somehow discrimination? I guess that's how some people apply the whole "equal but separate" ideology, fueled by that typical cosmopolitan love for diversity.

If you were a Muslim woman looking up customs, maybe it would fit there, but you're probably just being a provocateur trying to stir up trouble. 😁

People perform circumcisions on children for various health reasons, not just religious ones.
So, regarding this topic of pediatric health—which you linked right away—I think it's more than enough to cover.

Timothy Robinson2 said:So, basically, the Religion subforum would be strictly for Christians, while everyone else—people heading to mosques, synagogues, or whatever—would just hang out in the other subforums.

It’s not just about being at the Religion forum. It would be anyone who actually wants to be there—Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hare Krishnas, Orthodox, atheists, Christians... you name it.

Look, if they want to make this all about a Muslim wedding, then it belongs in the Wedding subforum right alongside the thread on church weddings. It just makes sense.

rustydrifter10, I didn't see that thread listed in the PDF index. Is it actually possible to open a topic like that? You don't need to answer—I'll figure it out once I try to find it. 🤷

Timothy Robinson2 said:Since so many parents go through with baptizing their kids, even though most people claiming to be believers don't actually know much about the faith, I guess that’s just where we're at. So, what exactly is the big deal with Christians baptizing their children?

It’s fine. I can handle baptizing the kids myself.

They really ought to be looking for answers over on the Religion sub. After all, only Christians baptize their kids, and that’s a pretty defining marker of the faith.
Whether you're Muslim, Jewish, or Orthodox, everyone gets married eventually. Honestly, people shouldn't be heading to a religious service just to hunt for answers that Christians and atheists are already finding in a completely different PDF specifically designed for their own interests.

Timothy Robinson2 said:So, are Christians only allowed to hold discussions in spots that actually have a Christian sign posted outside? Is that technically discrimination, or am I just overthinking things again?

Nah, I can just take my discussions to the appropriate subforums.
Regarding all the religious discussions happening over on the Religion subforum.
Weddings are a universal thing, regardless of what you believe in, so we should probably just keep the conversation over in the Weddings PDF. If Christians want to talk about their specific traditions, they can use the Wedding sub-thread, but we really ought to make sure that Muslims, Orthodox Christians, Jews, and atheists have the same space to do the same. It’s only fair.

Timothy Robinson2 said:If you were actually a Muslim woman interested in learning about the customs and traditions over there, you’d probably be asking real questions. But let's be honest—you're just looking for a reaction. 😁

I figured if we can have a whole thread about religious baptisms on the Playground, then a discussion about circumcision should be just as valid.

It’s pure double standards fueled by discrimination.

I’d like to ask the moderators to move this post over to the locked thread. I could just relock it myself, but I really wanted to get this point across first.

And please, mods, don't delete this. I genuinely want anyone reading that other thread to see what I have to say.
