With brand new users who only have two posts under their belt, you could probably just give them a heads-up via PM. There's really no need to go straight for the ban hammer. Most mods usually play it that way—we don't want to scare off every new person immediately. There’s even an entire Anderson thread dedicated to the new direction of this Reddit. 🙂

Everything else remains the same; this whole thread and the complaint itself were handled the wrong way.

Why are you spinning conspiracy theories? I was just wondering if that was allowed. I wasn't attacking anyone or making conclusions.
And this whole thing about reporting posts is pretty ridiculous, considering almost every moderator I know has an invalid email address for reports. Five different mods confirmed it to me. Plus, I've seen plenty of times where someone can straight-up insult a person's mother after being reported and nothing happens. But anyway, that's not really the point.

Honestly, they’re just picking on the mods for no reason at all.
If people actually took the time to read the Rules so they made sense, we probably wouldn't be dealing with this kind of nonsense in the first place.

It's always so easy to get into an argument with someone about something, but it's already been explained that everything you need to know is laid out in the Rules. However, I guess the rules don't explicitly mention this one thing: who says the mods are supposed to jump in and fix your signatures every single time someone gets slightly annoyed? It doesn't say that anywhere. So, I suppose if you want to keep bothering them, go ahead—they aren't going to complain.

Look, if certain things on the site are changing or people *want* them to change, I get it. But since everything hasn't been hammered out into a formal, black-and-white rulebook yet, it's totally possible that some individual mods might be a bit lost on certain issues.
What can you do? Nothing is perfect, not even here. We’re all just flesh and blood, after all. And honestly, you might not believe me, but most of us are actually more than willing to admit when we've messed up (like asking for someone's post to be unbanned). Okay, maybe not *everyone*, but most people. 👍

Also, if there's an infraction, just send a direct PM to the user instead of leaving a mark on the thread itself. There's really no point in posting those public warnings on someone else's post anyway; nobody is actually going to sit there and properly read what rustydrifter10 is saying. Since they're new to the site, once they realize their mistake... just make it part of that internal warning. Delete their signature and tell them to put together a new one that actually follows the rules. Then, just wish them a warm welcome to the community. It keeps things from feeling too much like being stuck in a bureaucratic nightmare after only two posts.

*Actually, it's still not ideal, because the prevailing wisdom here seems to be that we shouldn't hand out formal infractions to newbies with barely any posts. Just think about how much time gets wasted on this: sending that first warning PM without an official strike, then waiting around for the user to actually follow it (like drifting over to the Sports sub-forum), only to finally have to issue the actual infraction and deal with the inevitable drama on the General Discussion board. It's just a massive waste of time due to unnecessary red tape—classic American bureaucracy.😁 Simply put, handle everything (deleting the bad signature, providing the link to the signature rules, welcoming the new user) within that very first warning PM, without making it a formal strike. Everyone stays happy and satisfied.

By the way, I took a little stroll through your blog. Interesting stuff. Until now, I had this misguided idea that there were only bad, worse, and worst American police officers. It’s a nice change of pace to encounter a good one.

Over on the Sports sub-forum, one of the best moderators on this entire site in general—and I'm not even exaggerating when I say he could be a role model for all moderators—is Xerxes. You almost never see him here in the General Discussion area, and none of the users ever mention him, which honestly speaks volumes about his style. Just send him a PM (you as a mod talking to a mod) and the problem should be solved.

This is a private forum, governed by its own set of rules, and that should be the end of it.

It is honestly quite baffling—if I’m being perfectly candid—why not a single moderator has taken advantage of the professional opportunities presented to them to, say, tuck a link to their own vacation rentals right into their signature. I mean, I guess it just hasn't crossed their minds, or perhaps they're just being overly cautious... but it does seem like a missed opportunity, doesn't it? 😬.
