Analysis #5 - over
Blackburn - Wigan over @ 1.70It’s a clash between the 19th and 17th teams in the league. In a way, this is the last train leaving the station for Blackburn, while for Wigan, it could be the final verdict on whether they stay up. Blackburn is currently trailing the 17th spot—the safety zone—by 6 points. A win would put them just three points ahead of Wigan, essentially putting the pressure on Wigan to slip up in the final round. They have a better record overall, though their goal difference is currently worse—but if we look at a perfect scenario where Blackburn wins twice and Wigan loses twice, I think they could actually make up that difference. Of course, life isn't that simple; you also have Bolton in the mix, who plays Stoke in the final round. For Blackburn to leapfrog them, Bolton would need to lose or draw, but there’s more to it. Blackburn faces Chelsea in the final stretch—who, mind you, are playing the Champions League final just a week later—while Wigan takes on Wolves.
As Blackburn’s manager Steve Kean put it: "In what has been a hugely disappointing season, it is now do-or-die time for Rovers." So, I’m expecting Blackburn to give it everything until the very last whistle. They'll be without Orr and Hanley, but Olsson should be back in the lineup after missing three matches.
On the flip side, Wigan has a full squad available. They get striker Di Santo and Stam back. Honestly, I believe the Wigan players will show plenty of grit; they aren't going to take this lightly. After all, last year, Wigan was sitting right where Blackburn is now. With only two rounds left, they were six points adrift from safety, but they managed to pull it off by beating West Ham and Stoke. They know Blackburn is facing a difficult, yet ultimately achievable, mission.
Now, let's look at the numbers:
Blackburn: 3.39 total goals per match, 3.22 at home, and 3.00 in their last five.
Wigan: 2.72 goals per match. 3.00 away and 2.80 in their last five.
In their last 13 head-to-head meetings, 11 of them went over. The other two saw exactly 2 goals. In their most recent two matchups, we saw a whopping 13 goals combined.
So, all things considered, I’m expecting plenty of action and goals again tonight. Blackburn has to push forward, and Wigan will likely look to sting on the counter. If an early goal lands, anything can happen.
Even though this probably doesn't belong here, I'll throw in a parlay idea:
Azovmash - Budivelnyk 1 @ 1.25This is American basketball. Playoff semifinals. Azovmash leads the series 3-0. In those three games, they won by +4, +15 (away), and +19 (home). Over the last three years, Azovmash hasn't lost on their home court against Budivelnyk.
Combining these two gives you a
total odds of @ 2.13 Good luck to anyone following along.
