My laptop has a fingerprint scanner, but I'm having a bit of trouble getting it set up. I tried looking for a specific program on my computer to manage it, but I can't seem to find one, and even the manual doesn't mention much about it. Any help?

Wait, does your laptop even have a fingerprint scanner built into it?

Check if you have a fingerprint scanner built into the touchpad and let me know which specific laptop model you're running... the serial number would be helpful too.

Give this a shot: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...2011-07-25.exe

It’s basically just the Windows Update tool—it pulls down all the necessary software and drivers automatically—so maybe try using that to hunt down what you need. I checked the Dell support site, and while they do have drivers listed there, they're apparently only compatible with 32-bit Windows Vista.

I downloaded that and got the fingerprint software installed, so I was feeling pretty optimistic. But whenever I try to actually do anything, like adding a new print, it just gives me this error: "Cannot enroll user."
"Cannot find fingerprint sensor device."

The thing is, I'm certain the scanner is working fine; you can clearly see it right here in the photo: http://media2.ph.88db.com/DB88Upload...0B0F5EDE72.jpg ,it's in the bottom right corner 😢

Take a look in your Device Manager—check if you actually have a fingerprint driver installed under 'Biometric Devices'.

I go into the Control Panel and look under Biometric Devices to run a test, but nothing happens when I try to swipe my finger over the sensor. It definitely worked before, I'm sure of it, but someone else set it up for me and then I took the computer in to get some malware removed. Ever since that "cleanup," it doesn't even ask for my fingerprint to log in anymore, though everything was working perfectly until that happened. 🤷

Okay, but you still haven't actually answered my question.

I don't see any "Biometric Devices" listed at all, I guess.

So, clearly the scanner driver isn't installed—that’s why it’s acting up... did you actually run that Windows Update yet?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, because when I try to open Windows Update, this pops up: http://i40.tinypic.com/5fjf4i.jpg
What should I do now?

Okay, I think I found it, but now it's telling me it can't find anything?

Give this a shot then—it’s the driver specifically for Windows Vista: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...s/63fq04ww.exe

Anyway, what version of Windows are you actually running?

It’s still not working, I guess. No big deal though, seems like it might just be an issue with the scanner. Thanks for the help!
