Some moderators—who probably haven't seen much before—are merging threads that have absolutely nothing to do with one another, even if they were started years ago.
I really wish there was a bit more oversight here. A lot of people I talk to feel like this happens because of personal bias, almost like certain topics are being buried just because they’re inconvenient. For example, on the legal subforum, seeing a thread about "why mothers get priority in custody battles" merged with a general "divorce and kids" thread feels totally off. They aren't the same thing at all.
Thanks for understanding.

That thread is specifically about child custody, so that's where this question belongs. It’s not even about trying to force a new topic, it's just about keeping everything organized in one spot... I don't really get why anyone would be bothered by having it all under one umbrella.
I totally get that everyone wants their own dedicated space for their specific questions, but that's just not how things work here.

And honestly, some users (probably just the newer folks) really need to take a second to actually read the rules and check out the topics we already have up and running.

I’m well aware of the rules here, and as far as I can tell, there isn't anything stating that a standalone thread can be merged with one that isn't really related. The "Divorce and Kids" thread focuses on the question of "who gets custody" (you can see that if you just read the opening post), whereas my thread specifically tackles the issue of why women seem to have an advantage when it comes to winning custody battles.
So, mine deals with a specific legal and judicial issue. Basically, it's a problem regarding
that specific point.
The "Divorce and Kids" thread doesn't actually address that particular issue—it's just not part of the original premise. According to the guidelines, topics like this should stay distinct.
The reason I brought this up is because the topic seems to bother many of the women who first stumbled upon it in this subforum, leading to comments that lack any real substance or qualified arguments. Since you're a lady, it makes sense that you might disagree with my topic, much like other female users who feel, "If I gave birth to them, I should raise them." That kind of unreasoned argument is what populates the "Divorce and Kids" thread. You're welcome to check for yourself.
I realize that as a moderator, you have a lot of leeway since the rules mostly outline expectations for users rather than admins, but in the spirit of free speech and open discussion, I don't think you should take my critiques personally—like assuming I'm "trolling" or derailing just because I'm pointing things out. I see you sticking to the rules, so I just think those same standards should apply to the original threads too.
I still feel like, in this instance, the decision was subjective and didn't look at the whole picture objectively.
Your reasoning for merging the threads doesn't quite hold up for me, so if there's some obscure rule I'm missing, please just explain it to me.

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head... I'm a woman and honestly, I just can't stand men who get awarded custody 🙄

You got your explanation, and look, it's really not my problem if you don't like it or if you think there's some kind of conspiracy against you and all men everywhere...

Yeah, maybe I exaggerated a bit at first and went on a tangent. I get it—when you're a moderator or an admin, you see a hundred different personalities every day. That’s true, can't deny it. Just ignore my comment that you just replied to; it was just my initial take, and hey, everyone’s entitled to their opinion.
Anyway, let's get back to the actual issue, which, strangely enough, you skipped over in your post.
I don't want you to take my criticism as a challenge or a provocation. I just like talking through problems with logic, and since you hold a moderator position on this subforum, I think it's fair to ask you to explain things clearly.
It shouldn't be too much to ask for a minute of your time to look at the big picture here.
The whole debate about why women seem to have the upper hand in child custody cases? That’s been a recurring issue in the American legal system for ages, and honestly, it feels rooted in sexism and old prejudices. There should be a dedicated thread for this. It's a distinct issue within American society, and having its own space would make it easier to find and discuss on this forum without cluttering other areas. There are plenty of users here who would weigh in. As it stands, people can't easily engage with the topic.
This is a social network—a forum. It should operate on principles of democracy and equality, not just serve the interests of a few privileged users running the show.
I trust that isn't the case with you. But I felt I had to point out the problem, because that's my right.
I hope you'll look into this and follow the rules to handle it objectively, or at least try to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Thanks

On top of everything else, I want to report a few things:
1. My posts, along with those from a few other users who also asked to have this thread reopened as its own separate topic, have been deleted (basically just covering their tracks)
2. I was slapped with a private warning for trolling, even though there isn't actually a post on record to back it up
3. It’s pretty obvious people are dodging my questions because they don't have any real arguments
4. The way I'm being treated on the Labor, Social, and Family Law subforum feels incredibly authoritarian and biased

All of this happened over in the Law subforum, handled by the moderator crimsonsailor7

I’m asking the admins to please take an objective look at this situation and decide how to move forward.

And if you guys think I'm wrong about this, well... goodness knows what happens then.☕

Regarding all this calling out the moderators in the thread—look, you’re wrong, and honestly, it’s perfectly fine if they decide to wipe those posts
there aren't any hidden agendas or secrets being covered up here, believe me

As for how we handle the actual topics and merging them together, I'm asking for just a little bit of patience

1. I went ahead and wiped one of your posts along with one from another user, since we don't really do public debates about moderation decisions here in this thread... so there's that regarding your "expertise" on the rules

2. Just so you know, the admins can still see the deleted content.

3. You already got your answer. Honestly, instead of dumping all this energy into arguing about this thread, you could have actually contributed something useful so we'd even have a reason to split it out into its own thing...

4. Oh my god, someone deleted one single post and merged a thread, call the FBI, it's a total tragedy.

Look, if the discussion here actually stays high-quality and stays on track, we’ll split it up, no big deal. We've done it with other threads before. For now, those first 3 or 4 on-topic posts are just gonna stay right where they are.
