Ear bleeding: What should I do?

I’m looking for any kind of explanation available regarding this...
A friend of mine is experiencing some bleeding from her ear. It isn't a heavy flow, but she is extremely worried and distressed about what might happen next because of it.
How is this actually possible, what is happening internally, and is it dangerous? I would really appreciate an answer as soon as possible...

Honestly, you probably just need to grab a sterile cotton swab, dab a little antibiotic ointment on it, and lightly cover the area where it's bleeding. It looks like I’m headed for ear surgery—turns out a perforated eardrum and chronic inflammation aren't things you can just ignore indefinitely.
