Michael Lee4 said:Lewis seems to be going through a bit of a humbling phase right now; it feels like someone finally put him in his place, because his entire demeanor has shifted—from how he handles interviews to how he discusses various situations. Even Jordan mentioned it on Reddit yesterday, praising him to Whitemarsh and noting how much the kid has matured. I suspect he might have gone a bit overboard with that "I am black" comment, and perhaps people behind the scenes warned him to watch his mouth to avoid unnecessary drama. (At least, that’s my take, because his recent statements feel incredibly uncharacteristic.)

Regarding yesterday's situation, he is 100% at fault, though there is certainly some truth to what you are saying. His behavior toward me has felt quite off lately. He even went as far as using the team radio to praise and congratulate Button on a job well done, barely acknowledging his own tactical errors. It wasn't long ago that he would have been screaming and crying about how the pit wall completely ruined his race.

There was also some interesting stuff regarding Hamilton yesterday. I wasn't paying super close attention, but it sounded like when they interviewed Whitmarsh about tire strategy, he claimed they had everything decided on when to pit. Then, right after that in a different interview—not this one, I think it was with a female reporter—Lewis mentioned his radio wasn't working great, basically saying he could hear them but they couldn't hear him. Can someone who watched it or downloaded the Reddit thread confirm?

goldenpilot2 said:What else can you expect when someone blows the start, spins out twice in the exact same spot, loses control... could it have gone any worse? He did what he could during that final stint on those super softs, but those tires are garbage. 7-8 laps and they're toast. Lap times just skyrocket.

On the other hand, I get that a constructor might mess up the car one year—miscalculate something, miss a detail, have zero ideas... BUT for the mechanics to screw up 2 or 3 pit stops at EVERY single race? That is absolutely mind-boggling.
Fighting for position—your rival is sitting at 3.2 seconds, while Alonso is stuck at 5.6s. Yeah, that’s how you lose races.

And please, someone enlighten me: who was the steward for this race? That penalty on Hamilton makes zero sense (honestly, it feels like they've lost their minds).

Like I said a while back, the Italians are sloppy, and it’s going to stay that way as long as an Italian is running the show at Ferrari.☕

As for Lewis, well, considering all the other penalties so far, this one actually fits the pattern. Is it stupid? Sure. But ultimately, it's consistent.🙄

analogpilot16 said:If Hamilton's move was dangerous—which it was, just like half the stuff you see in Formula 1 (not that I care, this isn't go-karting)—and he got slapped with a penalty for it, then I want to know why the guy who towed Heidfeld's car into the pits right through the exit lane while Vettel was coming out didn't get punished. He was totally oblivious; they almost had a massive head-on collision. They could have at least towed him through the grass or something.

Look, you idiot, they absolutely should have penalized him.☕

SC goes out for every little thing, whether it's a tiny winglet in the grass or a bird on the track, but then a car basically explodes right at the pit exit and nothing happens.🤦

If nothing else, they should've at least closed the pit entry until they cleared the wreckage.😳

Total lack of organization.👎

Michael Lee4 said:Also, there was some weirdness yesterday involving Hamilton. I wasn't paying full attention, but when they interviewed Whitmarsh about tire strategy, he made it sound like they had a solid plan for the pit stop. Then, right after, Lewis tells some other interviewer—not the ones here, maybe some lady on TV—that the radio comms were glitchy. He claimed he could hear them, but they couldn't hear him. Can someone who watched or downloaded the Reddit thread confirm this?

Jep Lewis was definitely dancing around the idea that they couldn't hear him, but it felt super sour, like he was straight-up lying.🤷

It’s honestly pretty sketchy. Even Whitmarsh seemed to be dodging questions. Something just doesn't add up here.🤷

To me, it looked like Janson said he wanted to go to intermediates and then Hamilton just dove into the pits prematurely.🤣

I’ve got this nagging feeling that Button totally screwed him over.😁

Jep, that only applies to Alonso.🤣

Everyone else is just a total pushover if they don't win and take, I don't know, "only" second place.😂

yeap

here’s what Martin said:

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh: "That's The way to celebrate. Jenson drove a great race, he was calm, he was cool, he gave great information. It was one of those great wins in difficult conditions. It was a team decision for Lewis to go on to inters - it was raining, his tyres were shot and there was rain on the radar. Half The Cars came in and did The same thing. Clearly with hindsight you'd make a different call, but he stayed calm, picked up another couple of places and important points. "He's a guy who wants to win and as his reaction shows, he's dealt with the situation so well."

and yeah, he basically said exactly what you thought
it just confirms what you already picked up on
he isn't even telling the truth anymore.

edit: here's Whitmarsh's statement

Wait, why does anyone even care about the intermediate tires? Hamilton's race was basically handed to him once the pit crew opted for those reds instead.

Those intermediates were a total gamble—if the rain had picked up just a little more, he would have totally wiped out any advantage lost by picking the wrong rubber 🤷

And honestly, he didn't really lose anything—I mean, sure, he lost ground to guys like Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, but he likely would've lost those spots anyway if he'd been forced into another pit stop... though maybe he wouldn't have caught Alonso... perhaps. 🤷

So, there wasn't much risk involved, nothing to lose, yet he still could have snatched the win. 🙂

Honestly, you're the one to blame here... if he hadn't saved that set of red tires for qualifying, we wouldn't be in this mess right now. 🤣

He spent too much time playing strategist—now he’s just sitting there in silence, knowing deep down that he brought this on himself.

Intermediates would've been a gamble. If the rain picked up, he could have easily made up for the time lost by picking the wrong tires. 🤷

And he didn't really lose anything—I mean, sure, he lost spots to Button, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso, but he probably would've lost those anyway during a tire change... maybe he wouldn't have caught Alonso, but who knows. 🤷

So, zero risk, nothing to lose, yet he could have potentially snatched the win. 🙂

He should've gone with the softs, assuming he didn't mess up during qualifying. 😉

If I remember right, he was the only one without fresh intermediates, while everyone else had them, but he actually had a set of fresh softs ready to go. 😉

If I recall correctly, he was actually the only one without a fresh set of yellow tires—though he did have those new reds, unlike everyone else.😉

I'm not entirely sure—I wasn't glued to the qualifying session—but I think he definitely needed at least one set of fresh yellows...

Regardless, the call to switch to intermediates isn't really a controversial one, nor is it particularly strange—it didn't cost us much either, since the race was essentially lost long before that point.

True, but a second or third-place finish was actually within reach. He ended up in 4th, trailing by a full minute.

If he had opted for the hard compound instead of the reds, he likely would have been battling Sebastian Vettel for second place. I find it hard to believe he could have managed 30 laps on the hards (given that Vettel did 28 and Jenson Button did 27), and even if he had, those final seven or eight laps would have been painfully slow, much like how he struggled just before the first pit stop.

All those statements they drop just five or ten minutes after the race ends? They’ve all been scrubbed through the Public Relations Department machinery—so honestly, I don't take much of what they say at face value.
