Not all fungal infections are the same thing. There are several different types out there, which means you need specific medications or creams for each one.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you can only pick up something like Lotrimin over the counter. For anything else, you'll probably need a prescription.

The routine is pretty straightforward: lather up the affected area, let it sit for about five minutes, then rinse thoroughly and make sure it's completely dry. You'll want to do this daily at first, and even once the symptoms clear up, I’d suggest keeping it up once a week for a while just to prevent a relapse. Also, a quick tip: try to use a fresh towel or some paper towels each time. If you're using towels, make sure they're washed on a hot cycle—at least 140°F—so you aren't accidentally spreading it back to yourself.

My primary care doctor put me on some Plymicol cream, even though the instructions say you stop after two weeks and then follow up with Aliv for another two. Well, I’ve been using it for about six weeks now and... nothing. Zero. These spots are driving me crazy—I picked them up from a friend after borrowing some clothes. Now I'm heading to a dermatologist to get this sorted out. If anyone else has dealt with this, please tell me: DO THEY EVER ACTUALLY GO AWAY??
