Look, I’ve been dealing with this insanely annoying thigh pain for five days now. It’s brutal—I can’t sit, lie down, or even sleep properly, though it feels way better when I’m walking. At first, I figured I just pulled a muscle, but I haven't even hit the gym in two weeks, so it doesn't feel like a simple strain. Five days of this kind of intensity feels like more than just a sore muscle. Since I’m just a student here in New York City, I don't have a regular primary care doctor, so I was thinking about heading straight to the ER at Mount Sinai. I wanted to ask if they’re just going to blow me off because it doesn't look "life-threatening," or if I should just bite the bullet and go? Also, does anyone have any clue what this could be? The pain is intense; I’m living on painkillers, and the second they wear off, the pain wakes me right back up. I'm starting to worry it might be something serious and I really don't want to wait two weeks for an appointment with my GP. Thanks for the help. 🙂

It’s bad enough that I can’t sit, lie down, or even sleep properly, though it feels way better when I'm actually walking. At first, I just figured I pulled a muscle, but honestly, I have no idea how that happened since I haven't even worked out in two weeks. Five days of intense pain seems like a bit much for just a simple strain. Since I'm just here in New York City for school and don't have a primary care doctor, I was thinking about heading to the ER at Mount Sinai. I wanted to ask you guys—do you think they'll just blow me off because it doesn't look "life-threatening," or should I go anyway? Also, does anyone have any clue what this could be? The pain is brutal; I'm basically living on painkillers right now, and the second they wear off, the pain wakes me up. I'm starting to worry it might be something serious and I really don't want to wait another two weeks to see my regular doctor back home. Thanks for any help 🙂

Just head over to the surgical department at Mount Sinai to get checked out, especially since you don't have a GP, which is something every student living in New York City really ought to have sorted out 🙂 Pain can be totally harmless, but it can also be something major, so getting an exam is definitely the move.

I wanted to ask you guys—do you think they'll just brush me off because it doesn't look "life-threatening," or should I go regardless? Also, does anyone have any clue what this could be? The pain is brutal; I'm living on painkillers, and the second they wear off, the pain wakes me right back up. I'm starting to worry it might be something serious, and I really don't want to wait another two weeks to see my own doctor. Thanks for any help 🙂

That sounds like positional pain—basically, cramping caused by staying in one spot too long, which could be tied to poor circulation.
Get back into a routine, take some magnesium, and stay hydrated—you could be losing fluids if things are acting up.
This happens all the time with certain jobs or situations—like being stuck sitting for hours straight while studying—where your body is basically locked in place for more than half the day.

Some people call it a cramp, but personally, if I don't keep moving, I'll get stuck with this constant discomfort for hours, or sometimes the pain just keeps getting worse.

It’s a common issue for people in jobs or situations where you’re forced to sit still for studying or work, essentially locking your body in place for more than half the day.

Some people call it a cramp, but if I don't move around, I can deal with a constant, nagging discomfort for hours on end, or even feel the pain getting progressively worse from the get-go.

And just like that, a guy waits two whole years for someone to finally fix his aching hip, and by the time help arrives, he's already drank the poor man under the table. 😁
