Every once in a while (like 😢 right now), I get this weird, inexplicable chest pain. It usually lingers for about an hour before finally letting up, and honestly, I’m just not sure what I’m dealing with... whether it's my heart, my lungs, or maybe just some stomach issues 😕 I always seem to forget to bring it up with my doctor since it doesn't happen particularly often. Any advice?

Maybe it’s just psychosomatic, who knows? ;-)

It could be your stomach, it could be stress, or it could be your heart. If it’s just stress, then damn. If it’s your stomach, there are actually some pretty effective ways to handle that. But if it’s your heart—well, in that case, you really want to get checked out by a doctor as soon as possible.

BBQ? 🤷

Is that for after we eat?

Does it hurt more when you move around, or is it specifically when you take a deep breath? Also, on a scale of 1 to 10, how intense would you say the pain is right now?

Alright, let me tell you what used to happen to me—just speaking from my own clueless perspective here, obviously!

Between the ages of 16 and 22, whenever I’d get hit with that intense—okay, let's call it massive—sexual arousal while I was out and about, like commuting, sitting in high school, or at college, basically when there was zero chance of actually doing anything about it

I’m guessing you might think it was a breathing issue? I won't go into all the messy details so I don't embarrass myself too much (you know, the whole chest pressure, diaphragm stuff, pain, etc.)

But honestly, everything just vanished once I finally got some relief

There was definitely a connection to that arousal—it wasn't just a coincidence, it was a solid 5/5 intensity level

Other people probably deal with something similar too; it doesn't even have to be sexual, maybe just some other kind of intense tension or stress

It’s possible it’s just psychosomatic, though I suspect it might be something with my lungs (like pleurisy). It hurts when I breathe, but nothing too intense—just a normal breath. It feels as if my lungs are being "squeezed,"
making it hard to fully fill them up. I don't think it's my heart, but I definitely want to get that checked out just in case. And it's certainly not heartburn; this feeling is completely different from any indigestion I've ever had.

Could you be dealing with some spinal issues? For instance, if you have scoliosis, you can get chest pains that feel exactly like tightness in your lungs. You go to the doctor, they run all the tests, and everything comes back perfectly fine! 🙂

I’m definitely going to head in and get checked out just to be safe, but it’s honestly pretty baffling how rarely it happens, yet whenever it does strike, it’s incredibly uncomfortable and painful 🕺 thanks so much 😉

I’ll definitely look into what that is said:

Don't mention it. Back in my teens, I dealt with some mild scoliosis myself. There were nights where it felt so awkward, like I was having a literal heart attack mid-sleep. It's nothing to worry about, though—a few specific exercises can usually straighten things out. 👍

I had the exact same thing—it hasn't flared up in a long time. But man, that "heart attack" feeling... the only thing that helped was lying completely flat and stretching my chest out. I actually went to physical therapy for spinal alignment and have been consistent with my workouts since. I don't have issues now, but that tightness? It's brutal. You feel like you can't even breathe. Just awful.

Look, everyone has some kind of degenerative changes in their spine or minor scoliosis these days. With how much we sit around in these desk jobs, the only real fix is stretching constantly and working out—pull-ups are huge for this.

With Diego, it could be psychosomatic—but if it feels exactly like what I described, then it's definitely a spinal issue.
Bottom line: if it's just happening sporadically, there's really nothing to stress about.

Hey everyone. I’m putting this out there hoping someone might have some insight or advice for me. About a year ago, I had a routine physical for work—I’m an instructor for majorettes and hula hoop dance, if that matters—and everything came back perfectly normal. The only weird part was when they asked if I had any issues with my spine. My answer was a flat "no," because I genuinely didn't feel anything wrong. They sent me to see a physiatrist who told me my posture is terrible and that I have thoracic kyphosis, whatever that actually implies. When I asked if I needed physical therapy, she just said no. Fast forward to three months ago: I started getting these intense chest pains that landed me in the ER. My heart rate spiked to 140 bpm. They ran blood work, and everything looked fine. Checked my thyroid levels, too—all good. No gastritis. Even now, my resting heart rate stays elevated, usually around 90-100 bpm. I’ve been prescribed beta-blockers, which I take every morning. The doctors insist my heart is healthy and that there's no arrhythmia. I also had chest X-rays done because of this constant tightness and occasional feeling like I can't catch my breath. Lungs are clear, though I've dealt with chronic bronchitis since I was a kid. On top of all that, I have daily neck and upper back pain along with lightheadedness. No numbness or tingling in my limbs. I’ve never had any major health issues before this. I'm 22. The consensus from the doctors is that this is likely all stemming from my bad posture and spinal alignment. Has anyone else gone through something similar? And now they're asking if I want to start physical therapy after all.

I deal with constant chest tightness because of my spine—it's accompanied by a racing heart, back and neck pain, and occasionally some lightheadedness. I’ve been diagnosed with both scoliosis and kyphosis.
