What's a fair rate for a presentation design gig?

So, I’ve already got all the material ready for this PowerPoint presentation, so there’s zero need for me to write anything new or pull my hair out over content, but if anyone out there is good at putting together a rough price list or a quote, let me know 👍

Otherwise, presentations aren't really that expensive—unless you're looking for something with 25 slides and crazy animations that'll blow your mind. It's not rocket science, really. 😬

So, I’ve got this presentation hanging over my head, and honestly, I’m kind of spiraling because I have zero clue how many slides I actually need to put together. It’s supposed to be one of those super serious, professional vibes—none of that flashy animation nonsense or distracting transitions, just straight to the point. I’ve done stuff like this before, sure, but it was always just helping out buddies for free, you know? Just doing favors. But now, things are actually getting real because there’s actual money on the line. This is a legitimate gig. It's weird, though, jumping from "hey, let me help you out" to "okay, let's talk business," and my brain is just kind of melting trying to figure out the scope of it all.

I mean, it really depends on who you're billing. If it’s some total amateur, squeeze them for every cent they've got. But if you're doing someone a favor because you actually know what you're doing better than they do—or maybe they're just too busy to deal with it—then, I don't know. At least $17, make sure you get enough to cover a few rounds of beers and a decent coffee.

and I was thinking $67 maybe even $300 since the guy works in insurance or some corporate department bullshit, he's trying to climb the ladder, and he needs it ASAP, so I figure charging $300 shouldn't be an issue 😁

If you aren't capable of putting together a clean presentation—one that doesn't look like those tacky, over-designed corporate templates everyone hates—then honestly, it might be better not to bother making one at all for $133 (say, maybe thirty decent slides) rather than trying to churn out 150.

I mean, if this is your actual livelihood, then I suppose that changes the math entirely...

I ended up putting together a presentation for my neighbor who was facing the exact same deadline, and while I certainly spent the entire day glued to my desk from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, I managed to secure $167 😁

Honestly, I don't really use these kinds of Viewers much, so I'm a bit out of the loop here, but does anyone know how I can "convert" a file from the old .ppt format over to .pptx?

Alright, so why is it that as a graphic designer, I constantly run into these "geniuses" who swear up and down that a presentation is just "so simple" and that I could probably whip one up myself in no time? :'( Man... life is just a series of unfortunate events... hahaha... just kidding, mostly...hh

I'm not even taking a shot at what you wrote... I'm just speaking generally here... and it’s not even about this specific topic... it's more about how you can sell people on anything and make them believe it... when really, they don't realize how simple some of these things actually are...
I wasn't talking about the actual production process at all.
...look, I make presentations for a living... but I don't touch PowerPoint; I work in Flash... creating animated stuff... and it sells like crazy... but man, it's a grind because I always try to make everything look like I'm doing it for myself... which is why I said nobody ever comes looking for a PPT deck unless they have zero clue what they're doing or how to actually charge a decent rate for it... 🙂
