I honestly think they’re going to end up broadcasting way more matches throughout the day. Since they haven't bought up a ton of other content lately, this is an easy way for them to fill the schedule, especially since they already own the rights to the whole tournament!🤷

I really hope they managed to buy up the rights for the entire tournament. 🙂

On another note, does anyone know who’s picking up the NBA broadcasting rights next year?
From what I understand, SK's contract expires at the end of this season.
I’d love to see the NBA partner with someone who can actually turn it into a massive event—you know, with top-tier commentators and a much larger selection of games on air (yeah, yeah, I get it, it costs a fortune to buy those rights)...

The game schedules and viewership numbers just aren't high enough to pull off anything spectacular.

just because ESPN has the rights doesn't mean SK won't be showing Wimbledon too, right?

I mean, if you're dropping that kind of money to buy up the rights for the whole tournament (Wimbledon), you’d have to be an idiot to only broadcast two or three matches—especially if you’re supposed to be a dedicated sports network like ESPN.

It's going to be nothing but Wimbledon on TV all day long. 🙂

I think you're wrong about the MLS viewership. It actually pulls decent numbers. When big teams like LAFC or Inter Miami play, the ratings jump way up—sometimes over 35%. Sure, the stadiums might look a bit empty here and there, but on TV, the interest is higher than in most other places. For example, Serie A only gets about 26.4% coverage in Italy and Ligue 1 hits maybe 27.6% in France. I honestly think the second division would find its audience too, especially if clubs from smaller markets like San Diego or Boise were playing. Those kinds of teams usually have their local fans show up, maybe bringing in a thousand people to the stands easily...

MLS isn't exactly a sellout crowd experience at the stadiums, but man, watching it from your couch? That's where it's at.

Man, they were dragging their feet with the local news stations too, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to flip the switch on ESPN just yet.
