Quick question or more like a complaint😁

If the moderators are supposed to be setting the standard for how people act and talk on this forum, isn't it a bit much to expect them to actually watch their language and clean up their vocabulary?

Thanks😁

And what exactly is your damn problem with a moderator using a little bit of colorful vocabulary? 🤷

This is about culture and how people are raised in general,
just look at you as an example 🙄

but whatever, there’s no point in posting anything here anyway, even if
this thread is literally called Complaints and Comments 😁

Vocabulary? 😁

Man, look, this isn't the PBS newsroom where you have to worry about accidentally dropping an F-bomb or some other American profanity, or where your vocabulary has to sound like it was written by the writers over at John Doe 35.

Seriously, this isn't PBS where you have to watch every word to avoid mentioning the FBI or some American equivalent, or where they sanitize the vocabulary until it sounds like it was written by the hacks over at John Doe 35.

didn't get a chance to edit before you quoted me

ok, thanks for the reply.

Honestly, this isn't a PBS broadcast where one has to worry about accidentally mentioning the FBI or some American equivalent, nor should we allow our vocabulary to be reduced to something resembling scripts written by the authors at John Doe 35.

(feraltrucker5, you look spooked now. John Doe, John Doe)

The idea that a lack of decorum in speech is justified simply because this isn't a PBS broadcast is a very convincing argument indeed...👎

It’s not just about being rude. Addressing people like that is a direct insult to everyone on this forum.

Even that response from feraltrucker5 is a straight-up insult to me.
It isn't an insult just because you called someone an idiot.☕

Look, setting aside the typo for a second, your question was valid—but the answers are what they are. Period.
It’s honestly such a joke that even us registered users aren't allowed to talk like this on the forum. 😢

feraltrucker5 said:And what the hell does a moderator's vocabulary have to do with anything? 🤷

So, I guess this was supposed to be how a decent, cultured human being acts—not just a moderator, but someone with actual class? 🤦
If some random guy on a message board talked to someone else like that, he’d get slapped with a ban immediately. Then the poor guy would probably spend his whole afternoon filing appeals, thinking—maybe—that someone higher up might actually see the ban was totally uncalled for.

But, shocker, the higher-ups actually seem to cheer that kind of talk on. 🙄

John Doe 🤦x100

It's honestly pretty funny, if it wasn't so pathetic.

silentraven47 said:So, was that actually the behavior of a civilized human being rather than just some random moderator? 🤦

First off—feraltrucker5 is just messing around. My apologies, let me rephrase—feraltrucker5 is joking. Secondly, I think there really ought to be a distinction made between mere "crassness" in one's vocabulary and actual, direct insults toward others.

In the first instance, I honestly believe that if we insisted on policing every bit of slang used in those cheap American soap operas—you know, stuff like "Marina, I feel it is high time we discuss our relationship and aspirations," or "I agree, Mark, and it seems to me we are in quite significant trouble, what is it you wish to convey?"—it would completely kill the vibe of this forum. It’s rare that I’d call myself "uncouth," and I find plenty of linguistic exaggerations to be grating—but, well, not every person is suited for every type of media. Just as every car has its specific buyer, every style of writing will eventually find its own devoted following. You can't just walk into a crowded bar where everyone is having a great time and shout, "Turn off that garbage music, don't you have anything by Elvis playing?" I mean, people are enjoying themselves, regardless of what you think about their taste in music—at least the bar is making progress.

Regarding the second instance—the actual insults—I do agree that moderators should arguably have one degree less freedom (not more) than the "average" forum user. If nothing else, it's to prevent that inevitable whining of, "Oh, they banned me, but when Mod X or Mod Y writes something like that, it's perfectly fine."

amberangler99 said:It isn't merely a matter of poor manners; addressing someone in such a manner constitutes a direct insult to the community members.

Take this specific response from feraltrucker5, which I also consider an affront,
because an insult isn't limited strictly to being called a moron...☕

It is certainly an insult, much like the various other forms of disrespect one might encounter—such as when moderators become overly aggressive toward regular users, or when they selectively enforce the rules, granting leeway to some while threatening sanctions against those who dare point out such blatant inconsistencies regarding privileged users...🙄

Jason Clark7 said:The mods can be way too aggressive compared to the average user—it’s like they pick and choose when to enforce the rules strictly, acting like judge and jury for some while turning a blind eye to others, and then having the nerve to threaten people with bans just for pointing out how inconsistent their disciplinary actions are toward those with special privileges... 🙄

A bit of friendly advice here: I suppose your arguments might carry a lot more weight if you actually backed them up with specific examples of reports you filed that went completely unpunished while others were sanctioned.

It bothers people, myself included—especially when so many of you start acting like Kosorica, Šuker, Šeks, or Hebrag... ☕

That's a bit easier said than done. 🙂

It's really just the final step—though, if you ask me, it's entirely unnecessary. I honestly find it hard to believe that someone can't simply locate a few PDFs where they can write extensively without having to feel uncomfortable because of some random person's presence.

If you start feeling out of place somewhere, you just walk away. It’s really that simple.

They’re our mods—there really isn't anyone else we need standing alongside them.😁
Just take it easy, everyone.

Anyway, they’re actually pretty great when you consider they aren't even getting paid to do this job.🙂

It’s really just the final step. In my humble opinion, it's entirely unnecessary; I find it hard to believe someone can't find at least a few forums where they can write freely without feeling like they have to walk on eggshells around everyone else.

If you feel out of place somewhere, you just leave. It’s as simple as that.

Of course, everything depends on the specific subreddit.

I’m not going to go onto a hazelnut forum and debate whether I should use the word "dick" or "penis." But on a religion will forum, I might—based on my own experiences 😁.
And if I were posting a warning on a hazelnut sub, I wouldn't think twice about writing "What the hell are you thinking?" If I wrote "What is your penis?" it would sound completely unnatural.

This is quite frankly the final step. In my humble opinion, it’s entirely unnecessary. I find it hard to fathom that someone can't simply locate a handful of PDFs to write on—without having to deal with the awkwardness of some third party hovering over their shoulder.

When you find yourself feeling out of sorts or simply overwhelmed by one's surroundings, the most prudent course of action is to depart. One should simply remove oneself from the situation. It really is as uncomplicated as that.

Why does it feel easier?😁

If I can’t find the right subforum, then frankly, if they aren't satisfied with that—they can just head on out.
If they’ve finally tracked him down, but they’re suddenly making an issue of the moderation? Honestly, if they aren't satisfied with how things are being run, they should just pack up and head out.
If they aren't satisfied with anything—frankly, if they can't find a single thing to appreciate—then they should simply pack their bags and head out.

What on earth is the point of holding people against their will? Honestly, I find the whole concept utterly baffling. 🤷

Chloe Green61 said:Why does it feel easier? It’s an interesting question, really. It makes you wonder if we're actually making progress or if the friction of life has just been sanded down by sheer convenience. Sometimes I think we mistake a lack of resistance for actual ease, much like how a downhill slide feels effortless compared to a steady climb, even if you aren't actually gaining any ground.😁

If I can’t find the right subforum, then honestly, if they’re satisfied with things being this disorganized, they can just head for the exits.
If they actually managed to track him down, but suddenly find themselves having an issue with how the moderation is being handled—well, honestly, they should just pack their bags and head for the exit.
If they aren't happy with how things are running, they’re more than welcome to pack up and head out. Honestly, if you can't find anything to appreciate, why stay?

What exactly is the point of using force to detain people like this? It seems entirely counterproductive. 🤷

I suppose there’s a certain logic to it, really.
There’s always that certain breed of person who seems to have made a lifelong career out of being dissatisfied. Honestly, you could hand them a perfectly formatted, flawless PDF, and they’d still find some microscopic flaw to gripe about just to keep the momentum going. It’s like they wake up every morning looking for something to be annoyed by.
People like that clearly lack the basic ability to maintain a civilized conversation, which makes them entirely unfit for a forum like this. Honestly, they ought to find somewhere else to spend their time. This work.

Maybe one day they’ll finally grow a backbone and admit they aren't all saints either. They’ll have to face the fact that they occasionally screw up. Or, to put it more politely, they occasionally lose their composure and let out some absolute garbage.
Someday, New York City will finally step up and admit they were dead wrong about those flawed mods.😁

God, I hate small fries.😠 😍

If they supposedly hate everything, sure—but, I mean, if you actually look at the posts, they're always talking about "certain individuals" or "some people."
