So, about four days ago, I took a heavy punch straight to the face. It was bad enough that I went down hard, and I think I might have even smacked my head against the concrete. I’ve already taken some photos and gone to see both a maxillofacial surgeon and an ophthalmologist—everything came back looking totally fine on those scans. But then yesterday, after three days of feeling okay, this weird numbness started creeping in on the left side of my face and my upper lip. At first, I thought my teeth were just tingling from the impact itself, but now it’s more persistent. Currently, I’m dealing with a nasty black eye, especially around the socket, and the bruising is starting to bleed down toward my cheekbone. Does anyone have any advice or know when this discoloration usually clears up? Also, that numbness on the left side—my cheek and part of my lip—is still hanging around.
Everything else seems to be normal.
Is facial numbness a common symptom after something like this? Or, if you guys have any tips for dealing with eye bruising (maybe for next time...)?
I’ve been icing my face and my eye for the last three days; is there any chance the constant ice could actually be causing this numbness?
Thanks!

Seriously, does nobody have an answer? Not even two people?

It really depends... I mean, who hit you, and how hard? If you passed out, things get tricky to guess. It could be anything from a serious blow to just a sudden collapse. You've gotta know if you actually banged your head or not. Honestly, just go get a CT scan at the ER.

I’m planning on getting a CT scan done, but it won't be for another week. That puts me at about 15 days since the cheek numbness started, and 20 days since the actual impact. I really hope I haven't waited too long to check for any lasting complications... my doctor mentioned that with these kinds of hits, numbness can easily linger for a month or two if there isn't a fracture or a shift in the zygomatic bone. The only real issue right now is this tingling sensation; it could be a nerve thing, or maybe a hairline crack, but my facial symmetry looks perfectly fine—there aren't any visible signs of trauma and it doesn't actually hurt. I know there aren't a ton of specialized surgeons or maxillofacial experts out here, but I wanted to get some advice regardless. I've been taking B-complex in the meantime while I wait for the scan... uff...
