Bruce Willis is an absolute legend—I practically grew up in the 90s watching him command the screen. Even though he’s often the lead, my favorite performance of his is actually one where he plays a supporting role rather than being the sole center of attention—specifically in Pulp Fiction. When he drops that line, "Zed's dead, baby, Zed's dead," it just hits differently. He was truly born to play a character like that. 🙂
After That, naturally, all of his Die Hard movies are top-tier—no debate there. But whether you believe me or not, my absolute favorite Die Hard installment has to be the third one. Why? Honestly, it’s mostly just a massive wave of nostalgia. I remember seeing that one in an AMC Theatres, and whenever I revisit it now, it just hits that specific 90s vibe perfectly. Sure, Die Hard 2 is a total classic in my book, but the third one takes the crown for me. Period.
I actually consider Die Hard with a Vengeance to be an excellent film in its own right—but there was this unmistakable sensation while watching it, almost like a lingering feeling that... well, they weren't quite living in the 90s anymore. It felt as though John McClane himself was signaling that shift through his actions. Throughout the entire runtime, I had this impression of witnessing a final, defiant breath of the 90s—specifically that particular era of Willis as McClane—bleeding into this new millennium. It was like watching a genuine, grit-under-the-fingernails bad ass from the 90s absolutely tearing through the soft, polished tropes of the 2000s. Honestly? I found that dynamic incredibly refreshing.
I don't even need to bring up his other films—the man had an absolute mountain of hits under his belt. He was easily one of the premier action icons out there, though if we're being honest, my personal pick for the definitive action hero of the '90s has to be Schwarzenegger.
