Why can't I send DMs?

So, here’s the deal... Every single time I try to shoot someone a PM, I get hit with this annoying little message:

You have turned off private messages. You may not send private messages until you turn them on by editing your options

But look, I haven't touched that setting, I swear! I went back through my profile settings and triple-checked everything, and there is absolutely no way I checked a box to disable them. It's like walking into a Starbucks and finding out they suddenly stopped serving coffee even though the sign says they're open—it just doesn't make sense.

Does anyone actually know what's going on here?

Exactly. You have to check it. "Enable private messages" means just that.

I’m running into a similar issue here. I tried to send someone a DM, but it looks like they haven't enabled private messaging in their settings. I guess that means there's just no way for me to reach out privately, since they've basically opted out of receiving them altogether.

Exactly. If someone disables their DMs, you're essentially blocked from sending them anything privately.
