And honestly, neither is Love Like Blood, plus a bunch of other stuff. Still, looks like it's gonna be killer regardless.
I haven't even checked out the new album yet, but even that isn't getting much playtime according to the list.
My bad for double posting, just trying not to clog up the server.
Honestly, itβs probably better if they skip the Eighties stuff, Love Like Blood, AND the new album. Just keep it moving.

KILLING JOKE

Killing Joke kicked things off back in 1979 during that whole post-punk explosion in London's Notting Hill. I suppose they are definitely one of the most influential, interesting, and controversial bands around todayβa group that has managed to navigate a path through punk, post-punk, dark rock, noise rock, industrial, electronica, and even metal, all while somehow maintaining their signature sound. Their influence on the modern music scene is quite vast, which I guess is evidenced by the fact that so many major acts cite them as icons, including Metallica, Ministry, Soundgarden, Amebix, Front Line Assembly, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Melvins, Faith No More, KMFDM, Godflesh, Napalm Death, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Primus, Jello Biafra, Prong, Big Black, and Ikon...
Even Metallica did a cover of "The Wait" from their 1980 self-titled debut, which remains, in my view, one of the highest quality pieces of alternative music ever made. I think James Hetfield even named Jaz Coleman as one of his "top favorite singers" in Rolling Stone magazine. Then there was the legal situation involving Nirvana regarding the song "Come As You Are," where the riff was allegedly taken from Killing Joke's "Eighties"βa track from the 1985 album Night Time, which is arguably one of the greatest gothic albums of all time and features their famous song "Love Like Blood," which actually gave its name to a German gothic rock band.
On the 1990 album Extremities, where Killing Joke really dives into noise rock territory, the drums were played by Martin Atkins, who was a member of the legendary Public Image Ltd (John Lydon's outfit from the Sex Pistols), Ministry, and Pigface. Later, in 1994, Killing Joke released Pandemonium, introducing heavy metal riffs blended with an electro-industrial sound, essentially creating a new musical style altogether. The original bassist, Martin "Youth" Glover, went on to become a renowned producer for new electronic, techno, and industrial music, handling remixes for Killing Joke, Marilyn Manson, The Cult, The Verve, Vanessa Mae, and U2. Even Dave Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters played drums on the 2003 Killing Joke album, mentioning that he considered it a particular honor.
The charismatic frontman Jaz Coleman, besides his work with Killing Joke, is also a conductor and frequently collaborates with the New York Philharmonic. Jaz has always been somewhat deeply immersed in the world of magic, studying the works of the famous occultist Aleister Crowley, and because of that, he has spent time with Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. He tends to channel these insights into Killing Joke's work, which culminated in the 1989 album The Courtauld Talks, which is essentially a spoken word album set to musical backing.
Sadly, the late bassist Paul Raven also played with Prong, Ministry, and Godflesh. Besides Metallica, Killing Joke has covered a massive range of bands, from Fear Factory and Foo Fighters to Helmet, Love Like Blood, Amen, Behemoth, and even LCD Soundsystem and Nouvelle Vague. By the end of this year, a tribute album titled Absolute Respect is expected to be released, featuring covers of Killing Joke along with tracks by Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Metallica, and Nouvelle Vague...
Killing Joke concerts feel almost like rituals, where Jaz performs a kind of magical ceremony backed by intense music. They are currently promoting their new fourteenth studio effort, Absolute Dissent, which was recorded by the original lineup for the first time in 28 years.
This concert seems like something you shouldn't miss, and it will also mark Killing Joke's very first visit to America!

Look, this tour is literally the promotion for the new album. It's been ages since Killing Joke played in those synthpop or darkwave waters, so there's really no reason for them to dig up Eighties or Love Like Blood. Still, it's a shameβhearing an industrial version of Eighties would have been pretty cool. π
Pandemonium! π

I don't know how far back you were thinking, but just so you know, the Eighties played back in 2008.

Look, they don't really have any reason to play those songs while promoting a new record. It's just another industrial album. π π
Doesn't mean they won't play them here since it's their first time in the US. By the Eighties, they sound pretty thin on this link. π’

Basically half of the first album. Unbelievable.
I've only listened to Night Time so far, and they don't play any of those tracks. Now they're doing half the debut? Fine. Guess I have to go listen to π

Iβve honestly only stuck to Night Time up until now, and they don't even include any tracks from there. Half of the first album? Now I actually have to go listen to π
.
Night Time is definitely the easiest one to get intoβat least for meβbut it gets so overwhelming that I can't stand listening to it anymore. Itβs probably my least favorite at this point.
In my opinion, the first album is hands down the best, followed closely by the second.
The third and fourth are also killer, and I'd throw some of the newer stuff in there too, but I won't ramble on forever.
Just a heads up though, I tend to view albums as complete works since almost every record has a few standout tracks.
edit: things are about to get crazy

I've been diving into their debut album lately, and man, itβs a total gem. Especially considering when it droppedβit was revolutionary. It's obvious those guys know they'll never top that first one, so they just keep spinning half of π

...honestly, better if it isn't sold out. I really don't feel like being crushed at a concert for my favorite band by a bunch of idiots who only know two and a half songs by Killing Joke... and yeah, obviously, one of them is Love Like Blood...π

I picked up my tickets yesterday evening, so I can finally answer the question about whether they're sold out.

That bit involving Kurt Cobain was pretty underwhelming. He really should have just shoved The Damned right under our noses instead π

Total madness! Honestly, just pure energy;
I actually wandered in right during the third song π’
but man, it was absolutely incredible regardless π

It was a solid show. π Live, they still lean heavily into that new wave and post-punk vibe, which feels worlds apart from their more recent industrial stuff. I felt like Eighty was played just a bit too fast. On the older tracks, the instrumentation felt balanced, but on the newer material, the synths and drum machines basically swallowed the guitars wholeβthe bass was the only thing occasionally cutting through the noise. Also, I struggled to connect with the vocals on the newer songs, though the rhythm in those tracks was undeniably tight. Honestly, I wouldn't call any of it a letdown; Killing Joke made up for everything with pure energy and grit.
