So, I'm looking to pick up a 23 or 24" monitor, and honestly, I really don't want to end up with some piece of junk.
What's the actual deal with the difference between LCD and LED monitors? Like, is there a real gap here?

Also, what do you guys think about this one:
HP 23'' LED Monitor x23LED WS233AA, 5ms, 250cd/m2, 1000000:1, D-SUB, DVI, widescreen, black

And another thing—why does the contrast ratio seem to change depending on where you look? For example:
On this site...
http://www.amazon.com/samsung-f2380-lcd-23/dp/B00X

It says:
"Contrast ratio (typical): 1000:1, DCR: 12,000:1 "

What's the catch there? I definitely don't want to be stuck with a monitor that only has a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

😂 I’d honestly love to see a monitor that actually delivers on a 1000:1 static contrast ratio. Most of them fall way short of that claim

So, what's the deal with that one?

Which one do you think actually beats those other two?

Look, let's try this instead. Just tell me your budget, what you actually need the rig for, and what GPU you're rocking right now. Then I'll give you a real recommendation. 🙂

So, I’ve got this ATI Radeon Sapphire sitting around—though I could probably track down a different one if needed—and I’d be willing to drop up to $667
on it.

You can't go wrong with any of these. Honestly. They have the best picture quality in their class. Just pick whichever one you like more.

If you want something that looks a bit sleeker, even if the image quality takes a hit, then maybe try:

HP's latest model is still a total mystery to me, so I haven't dug into the specs yet. As for this Philips, it’s a solid deal for the price tag.

Just grab the Samsung xl2370... honestly, it eats other monitors for breakfast—especially when you look at the static contrast compared to that Dell u2410. Plus, the damn thing is bright. And before the enthusiasts start lecturing me: yeah, I know it's a TN panel, and I know I should be looking at IPS or PVA models, but let's be real—hardly anyone can actually afford those right now...
