Movie houses and locations

Does the setting actually matter to you when you're trying to get into a movie, or do you just not care?
What specific cities, houses, or random spots from films have actually stuck in your brain?
Maybe drop a picture if you can.
Do you specifically hunt for movies set in certain cities, or is the location totally irrelevant to you?

Personally, I'm all about those San Francisco vibes or gritty movies set deep in the American backcountry, like Winters Bone or Deliverance—though those types of flicks are hard to find these days.
But honestly, it drives me absolutely insane when everything is shot in New York; it’s like they just show the exact same damn streets over and over again. 🤷
Hollywood productions are fine, I guess—at least they put some effort into the production design—but I much prefer movies that explore more unique landscapes, like Into the Wild.
So, do you pay any attention to where the story takes place, or does it make zero difference to you
whether the movie was filmed in Chicago or somewhere out in Wyoming?

Ugh, that creepy house over on Elm Street has always given me the chills! Honestly, there’s just something about movies set in those classic American suburban homes—think Poltergeist, The Exorcist, The Omen, Halloween, or Amityville—that feels uniquely terrifying to me. Don't you think there's something extra unsettling about horror lurking right under a normal roof?

I've been browsing through these horror flicks lately, so I'm curious—what's your take on this?

Are we talking something along the lines of the Goonies? 🤷

Honestly, looking at this house, I’m definitely going to end up rewatching that movie after about twenty years of avoiding it!
By the way... does anyone actually know which US city they filmed the Goonies in?
It just occurred to me... back in the day, houses used to look so much more cluttered and lived-in.
Like, does anyone remember how the houses looked in E.T.?

Nowadays, everything just feels so sterile and perfectly manicured with those boring blue tones.

Seriously, the setting can make up like half the movie—it’s all about the atmosphere...
I mean, I watched The New Daughter (Katelyn Kostner) recently, and man, that house and the location were just stunning.

Has anyone else noticed that the house in Mr. and Mrs. Smith looks exactly like the one from the daughter's father starring Steve Martin?😁

Six feet underground, filmed right in California, but honestly, the vibe just doesn't match what I saw in the series 🤷

That’s simply because those filmmakers—whoever they may be—only capture the exterior shots and then move everything into a studio. If you look it up online, you'll find plenty of info about that one house used for those witch movies.
From that specific property, they only ever filmed the outside; the series was actually shot on a soundstage, so yeah, the floor plan you see on screen bears absolutely no resemblance to the actual layout of the house.
It's the same deal with those ranch shows; for instance, some of those locations were actually used for The Brayds Iače.
Anyway, I just wanted to offer my two cents.
Haralxton Manor is where they filmed that horror flick, The Haunting Thornewood castle.

The Haunting Thornewood castle is where they filmed Red Riding Hood and Kingsford.

And I also recallKingsford being used as the Drovers Run set in the series McLeods.

All I know is they look exactly like those jagged cliffs from the Goonies—you know, that whole vibe—plus that beach scene near the end of the movie in Portland.

I’ve always had a huge soft spot for those movies filmed out in the American mountains—you know, the ones where you get that deep, thick forest vibe—but man, that house from the Goonies? That place is legendary. There's just nothing else like it.

It’s a promising flick, really, but it feels like it’s missing that certain *something*... even if the location and the house are absolutely top-tier.
